Wilkommen! I am delighted to welcome you to Broadway at the Gardens’ sixth production – Cabaret. With this show, we are thrilled to welcome back Director Courtney Corey, who lent us her talents previously for Evita in 2011 and Rent in 2010. One of Broadway’s most iconic musicals, the story of Cabaret has been told in dramatically different ways, but has remained relevant and vibrant since its debut in 1966.

Cabaret gives us a peek into the colorful lives of a handful of characters clinging to decadence and freedom but coming up against change and social currents beyond their control. It is a story of love and hate, of fantasy and reality, and of the loss of innocence that can never be regained – it is as current today as the day it was written, and always will be.

Broadway at the Gardens is proud to continue our mission of providing cutting edge, highly professional theatre for adult audiences. We hope that you will enjoy our fresh interpretation on this classic musical. Bleibe, reste, stay… and for just a few hours, escape into a world where “Life is a Cabaret.”

Patrick Hediger, ProducerBroadway at the Gardens

DIRECTOR’S NOTESInside the seedy Kit Kat Klub, the walls pound to the heartbeat of a permissive and somewhat liberated Germany. Yet, outside, a cold and ominous shadow is quickly approaching. On the brink of a dynamic political (and ultimately, cultural) shift, the characters in Cabaret find themselves torn between hope and fear, anxiety and anticipation, love and loss. Rarely does a theatrical piece explore the transition between the Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany, but in order to understand the travesties of the 1930s and 1940s, it is crucial for us to see the beginning of the decline. And now, we present to you Kander and Ebb’s multi-award winning production which has captured the hearts of audiences for almost 50 years. “Life is a Cabaret, old chum. Come to the Cabaret.”

Courtney Corey, Director / Choreographer

Jean-Yves Tessier (Lighting/Set Designer) is a primate with a single opposable thumb. He hails from the cold reaches of Canada and once had a sexy French accent. It has since been lost - if found please take good care of it. Jean-Yves is a believer, a skeptic and enjoys throwing metaphors around only to see them crash to the floor. He has been rained on exactly 1,436 times. Incredibly that is also his PIN number. The universe is weird that way. He dreams at night, but forgets to remember when he wakes. One of these days he’ll climb a mountain, run a marathon and swim the Great Barrier Reef – in that order. He is trying to make “Kewl” cool, and in his spare time enjoys lighting things.

Linda Vick (Costume Designer) is pleased to return to the Lewis Family Playhouse for her fifth production as costume designer. Past productions include Big River, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Christmas Carol, and Noises Off. Linda has been costume designing for Theatre Company Costumes for 18 years. She has costumed shows at Citrus College and Covina Center for Performing Arts including Arsenic and Old Lace, Jersey Boys, Into The Woods and Baby, and Inland Valley Repertory Theater’s production of All My Sons. Linda hopes to enjoy working with Broadway at the Gardens on future productions.

V. Michelle Bierman (Hair/Make-Up Designer) is grateful for the continuing privilege of serving the community through art, creativity, and education. Her previous designs were implemented in Into the Woods, Evita, Annie, The Wizard of Oz and Seussical. Michelle is a Joe Blasco graduate and teaches theatrical makeup at Chaffey College.

Cindy Smith (Properties Designer) is thrilled to be working as Prop Mistress with Broadway

She loves being involved with theater in its many aspects both on and off stage. Cindy works as a teacher at El Camino Elementary. She sends her love and thanks to her daughter Amber who encourages her to keep living and enjoying the multi-role life of mother, teacher, actor, and prop mistress.

Laura Steinroeder (Production Stage Manager) is a Stage Manager and Theatre Director working in the Greater LA Area. She is currently directing All This Intimacy with Above The Curve Theatre in North Hollywood. She has curated several twitter chats for Howl Round’s weekly Howls on the topics of new play development, director/playwright relationships, and self-producing. Attended the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Stage Directors and Choreographers Society Associate Member.

Elizabeth Gibbons (Stage Manager) is excited to be a part of her first production at the Lewis Family Playhouse. Recent credits include Stage Manager for Tartuffe at Chaffey College and Property Manager for Hair at Chaffey College. She is a Theater Major and Psychology Minor. She hopes everyone enjoys the show.

He was recently unseen as director, choreographer or music director of Phantom of The Opera, Metropolis, The Wiz, Bricktop, Haunting of The Tivoli, A Christmas Carol, Oklahoma, Dreamgirls and others. He has co-written several musicals including the long-running off-broadway smash Naked Boys Singing and the recently work-shopped Reunion of The Bells. He thanks his family and friends for their love and support!

Patrick Hediger (Producer) Prior to coming to the City of Rancho Cucamonga as the Cultural Arts Coordinator in 2005, Patrick toured the U.S. with national Broadway musicals and plays. He has served the Los Angeles arts community for more than 20 years having worked with Walt Disney Theatrical Productions, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Center Theatre Group, The Hollywood Bowl, The Los Angeles

Opera and the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre (for the Los Angeles County Arts Commission).

Tony Schondel (Technical Director) has an extensive performing arts technical background working as a production manager and tour manager for Columbia Artists Theatricals, as well as a company manager and technical director for concert tours with such known artists as Ben Vereen, Isaac Hayes, Savion Glover, Al Stewart, Ben Gazarra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Tony’s background also includes television, video and radio production. Tony has served as Technical Coordinator for the Lewis Family Playhouse since 2007.
