The entire City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga welcomes you to the second MainStreet Theatre Company production of our 9th Season.

Dear Friends, Starting with our very first production in 2006, I have been deeply committed to giving our audiences excellent theatre experiences. I’m incredibly proud that our productions are bold and sophisticated, and that we’re known as a place where artists and audiences are encouraged to explore stories in deep and rich ways. I know that every show we do has the potential to spark the imagination of a child who has never seen live theatre, and I take that responsibility deeply to heart. I also believe that the responsibility goes beyond merely the imaginative way we tell the stories – every season I like to choose plays that are not only entertaining, but that also invite our young audiences and their families to think about the world. The Prince and the Pauper was first published in 1881, and is set in 1547, but the depiction of the differences between rich and poor is still incredibly relevant today. With the income gap continuing to widen in the United States, and with many people still unemployed while the rich seem to acquire more wealth and power, it seemed a good time to revisit this classic story, especially with Jonathan Bolt’s great adaptation. I hope that our production will provide a platform for discussion, and make children and their families empathize with people on both sides of the income divide. Our audiences come from various economic backgrounds, from wealthy suburbs to many underserved communities, and I hope that this story might show all of our young audiences that the world is not black and white, and that goodness and wisdom can come from many sources. I’m excited that the stars have aligned so that two of our “regular” actors were available to take on the leading roles, and that Abigail Deser is back to direct. Abigail is one of the many artists that continue to call MainStreet home, and I appreciate her keen intellect and attention to detail, which will become very apparent as you watch this show. I also couldn’t be more thrilled with the amazing talent of the rest of the cast and the creative team, who have put together an enormous, thoughtful, rich and fun show in such a short period of time. When I’m not busy working on the shows themselves, I continually look for ways to deepen our relationship with our audiences and our financial supporters. I want to take this opportunity to thank the schools for being such terrific partners, and to say how great it is to see familiar faces in the lobby of families who have become regular ticket buyers. This show marks the last show of our season, and I can’t wait to announce the exciting work we’ll be sharing with you next year – for our 10th! Sincerely,

Mireya (Murry) HepnerProducer, MainStreet Theatre Company

Michael Faulkner (LORD CHAMBERLAIN, FATHER ANDREW, THE RUFFLER) Michaels‘s first play was Johnny Appleseed in 2nd grade, where he played a pilgrim. After that he appeared at Shakespeare Santa Cruz at age 14, and went on to perform 8 seasons there, returning as a union actor years later. He tours all over with the 3-man comedy troupe “The Reduced Shakespeare Company.” Last year he performed at the Laguna Playhouse, Kingsmen Shakespeare

(Thousand Oaks), Merrimack Repertory (Massachusetts), and in New Mexico, Illinois and Virginia. This May he will be in OZ 2.5 at South Coast Repertory. Michael and his wife are also both narrators of the Planetarium shows at Griffith Observatory. Michael learned to do British accents by being born in Cambridge, England…though he was raised in California, so Michael just imitates his father!
