Definition: Product Structure

Set of hierarchically ordered objects with the purpose of documenting one product or a set of similar products

Product Structures support product development, especially for products with many variants and a large number of components

Product Family: LINUX_SERVER

Product Views: SERVER_COMPONENTS

Product Items: LX_CASE, LX_CPU, LX_PWRSUP

Product Item Variants: 30cm, 2.4GHz, 120V and 240V

Product Family:

The product family defines the top level element of the product under development

Product Structure has the following sub views,• Description

• General Data• Components• Product Variants• Documents• Classes• Characteristic• Authorizations• Administrative Data

Create Product Family:

Click Product Structure -> Create Product Structure from the NWBC Menu

Choose Node Type “Product Family”

Enter Node: LINUX_SERVER

Enter Class: PSS_DEMO and click Continue

Product Variant:

Product Variant is a sub set of product family and describes a product of this family

A Product Family has one or more Product Variants associated with it

Product variants are finished product materials, and they provide a direct reference to the product

Create Product Variant:

Open Change Product Structure Screen, go to tab Product Variant

Enter Product Variant and Description

Click Save

Assign Material To Product Variant:

Go to Product Variants tab, enter a material in the Material field

Click Check Entries

Click Save

Product Item:

Product item defines the components that are used to build up a product

Product Item is used to perform the following activities,

• To define the structure of the product you want to document

• object dependencies and components are specified at this level

• To add Product Item Variants

Create Product Item Choose Node Type:

Product Item

Enter Node: LX_CASE

Enter Class: PSS_DEMO

Click Continue.

Go to “Where Used” tab and enter LINUX_SERVER under Node field and SAVE

Create Product Item Variant:

Open Product Structure LX_CASE and switch to Product Item Variants tab

Enter 30 in the Variant field and add Description

Product View:

Product Views are independent of Variants and Material Assignments

Product Views are defined while creating Product Structure with many elements. Used to structure large products

Create Product View: Enter Node Type: Views

Enter Node: SERVER_COMPONENTS

Enter Class: PSS_DEMO

Click Continue

Enter Node: LX_CASE and SAVE.

Simulation:

Simulations are used to simulate the explosion of a product structure or a product assembly for a specific set of configuration parameters

Simulations take into account object dependencies and effectivity parameters

Simulations can be based on,

• Date Effectivity

• Parameter Effectivity

Activate Simulation: Date Effectivity

Click Edit Simulation

Enter Simulation Name and Simulation Description

Enter Material

Set Dates and click Activate Simulation
