Teaching:
Session 6: Summative assessment – assignment 1
Gail Lydon & Jo Byrne
Log into the online page for summative
workshop
• https://ccpathways.co.uk/level-3-maths-online/
• You'll need the password L3Maths16
• Click on the Summative workshop
• Download the HO1 Indicative content
• Look through R1 Introduction to Excel for Level 3
numeracy slide show.
Session aim
• To present the first of the two
assignments
• For participants to consider what
further study they need to do before
they start assignment 1
Appendix 7
• The authenticity cover sheet must be
completed, signed and sent with both
assignments (see HO2 and HO3).
Basics
• Ensure your student number is on all
pages
• Pages should be numbered (so that we
know none have gone astray).
• Show all workings and add commentary
where appropriate (let the marker know
what you are doing).
Suggestions
Sketch out the question before you start
(what will help you?):
• A grid
• A sketch
• A table
This should gather all the information you
have been given.
Make a note of any assumptions you are
making.
Sending your work
If by post send it recorded delivery and
always keep a copy of everything.
You can email but make sure that:
• it is possible to read everything
• it is the correct way up and in the correct
order (remember to page number).
Assignment 1: Using
mathematics: personal and public
life
This first assignment is set in the
context of personal and public life.
Assignment 2 will be set in another
context. This will be sent to you on
completion of assignment 1.
Assignment 1: Q1
Look through R2 The role of models in
representing mathematical situations
Prezi
Make notes for your answer to Q1
Refer also to the notes you made in
session one and your observations
about mathematical modelling.
Indicative content
See the HO1 indicative content.
• Note on this where you have covered the
requirements within your assignment.
• You should send a copy with assignment 1.
• You should continue to add to the same
document when you have completed
assignment 2.
• Send a copy of HO1 with assignment 2.
Good luck with your assignment
There is a session on 5th September – this is
for feedback and questions.
Specific answers cannot be marked.
If you would like some light feedback you must
send your work to Gail before 24th August.
You must send any questions you have prior
to the event and they must arrive before 2nd
