When I took over this editor's job - withsome reluctance - I expressed the hopethat a stream of papers of quality wouldcome to my office in order to maintain andimprove a journal of high standard. Myhopes have been fulfilled; the only sadthing about it has been an unwanted andunacceptable increase in publication time.In order to keep publication to approximately half a year from submittance of theactual paper, we have without any increasein subscription price in the year of 1978enlarged each number of the journal fromapproximately 64 to 80 pages. Further, wehave published a Transaction Issue, whichall subscribers received free of charge. Sinceit is my impression that the stream of good

papers will continue, it has been decidedthat the future volumes wiII be approximately 500 pages each, published in sixnumbers per year. Unfortunately, this hasto led to an unavoidable increase in thesubscription price. Since the journal firstappeared in 1972, the rise in printing costhas been 137 %, yet the rise in subscription price has been only 75 %. I feel convinced that all subscribers will understandthe necessity of an increase. We have noticed a steady increase in the number ofsubscribers; however, even more wouldmean a better journal for the same price.r thank all authors, subscribers and readersand believe in a fruitful cooperation withthe purpose of continuous improvement ofthe International Journal of Oral Surgery.
