Oral Surg. 1978: 7: 511 When I took over this editor's job - with some reluctance - I expressed the hope that a stream of papers of quality would come to my office in order to maintain and improve a journal of high standard. My hopes have been fulfilled; the only sad thing about it has been an unwanted and unacceptable increase in publication time. In order to keep publication to approxi- mately half a year from submittance of the actual paper, we have without any increase in subscription price in the year of 1978 enlarged each number of the journal from approximately 64 to 80 pages. Further, we have published a Transaction Issue, which all subscribers received free of charge. Since it is my impression that the stream of good Letter from the Editor papers will continue, it has been decided that the future volumes wiII be approxi- mately 500 pages each, published in six numbers per year. Unfortunately, this has to led to an unavoidable increase in the subscription price. Since the journal first appeared in 1972, the rise in printing cost has been 137 %, yet the rise in subscrip- tion price has been only 75 %. I feel con- vinced that all subscribers will understand the necessity of an increase. We have no- ticed a steady increase in the number of subscribers; however, even more would mean a better journal for the same price. r thank all authors, subscribers and readers and believe in a fruitful cooperation with the purpose of continuous improvement of the International Journal of Oral Surgery.
