Everything you need to know about…

Lethbridge Lethbridge is a great city to call home.

It’s big enough to have the shops, restaurants, nightlife, and entertainment you want, but not so big that you waste time stuck in traffic or fighting the crowds. What’s more – this city of nearly 90,000 is a 90-minute drive away from one of North America’s greatest national parks – the Waterton/Glacier International Peace Park. You can truly get away from it all with a day hike, a canoe trip or cross-country ski adventure and be home in time for the Kodiaks’ basketball game. It’s all here – just waiting for you.

The college is conveniently located in the city, making it easy to get anywhere you need to go. The welcoming campus is close to banks, grocery stores and other amenities that make the life of a student just a bit easier. If you want a change of scenery, you can get to Calgary in just two hours and Great Falls or Whitefish, Montana, in a little more than three.

Housing is affordable in Lethbridge, whether you live in residence or off campus. Bikes paths and public transportation can take you wherever you need to go even if you don’t have a car.

And don’t forget about the prairie blue skies and sunshine that make Lethbridge one of the best places to live in Canada. It won’t take long before Lethbridge truly feels like home. And if Lethbridge is already your hometown, you’ll enjoy getting to know the city from a new perspective. As a student, you’ll be involved in new groups and activities, and will see the city in a whole, new light.

Everything you need to know about…

You’ll have your pick of places to live once you arrive at Lethbridge College.

You could live on campus in residential townhouses and apartments that offer everything you need to be comfortable. The college’s 30th Avenue Residences are cottage-style units, fully furnished with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. You can also choose from two-bedroom units in the Cullen Residences and 109 single suites in the state-of-the-art Kodiak House.

Basic utilities, cable television, high speed internet and furnishings are included in the rent, and paid parking is available. Unlike some post-secondary residences, meal plans are not included in this cost. Instead, students are invited to cook in their own fully equipped kitchens or eat at the campus cafeteria.

You can also choose to find a suite, apartment or house to rent off campus. The college’s Residence Life Office provides a free service allowing landlords to place their rentals on the campus website and students to search the city by area. While the Residence Life Office doesn’t screen the listings or make arrangements for students to live off campus, the staff is always available for consultation if you need advice. Rents in the city start at about $400 a month to rent a basement suite to $1,000 a month to rent a house with several bedrooms.

Everything you need to know about…

An investment in your education is an investment in yourself and your future. It’s a big commitment – and a wise one. And now is the time to ensure your finances are in order. If you are looking for some guidance as you plan your future here, Lethbridge College can provide you with plenty of sound financial advice.

Most scholarships, awards and student loans require students to attend classes full-time with some options for part time students.

This year Lethbridge College students will receive over $900,000 in scholarships and awards. One application form puts your name in the running for all Lethbridge College awards that you are eligible for. A few minutes of your time can help fund your education – just fill out the online form at the college’s website before each year’s May 1 deadline.

Student loans may be available to fill in the gaps left after you have applied your savings and any scholarships and awards. There are numerous ways to access financial aid – you can just ask a college advisor if you have any questions. Government student loans are based on need and are interest-free during the time you are enrolled at college. You can apply for a loan through the province where you have lived in for the past 12 months.

A college education is probably more affordable than you think. The average student at Lethbridge College is expected to pay between $1,700 and $3,500 a year in tuition in fees. If you have any questions at all about paying for your Lethbridge College education, just give our advisors a call. They can help you make sense of the dollars and cents involved in your education.

Fun, food and fitnessWhile your studies will likely be your top priority, you won’t have to look far to find great experiences outside of class.

You can start with the Kodiaks, the Lethbridge College teams that compete in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. Many have won provincial titles and some have gone on to compete at, and win, national championships. As a registered student, you’ll enjoy free admission to all Kodiaks men’s and women’s competitions, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, cross-country running and golf.

As a student, you’ll automatically be a member of the Lethbridge College Students’ Association (LCSA) and can take part in the student clubs, campus recreation, contests and giveaways the association runs. You’ll also have a compulsory student health and dental plan that you can opt out of each term if you have an existing benefit plan.

Lethbridge College students have a wide range of choices when it comes to getting their three meals a day. Those who live on campus can cook in their own residences, and everyone is welcome to enjoy the food prepared by culinary students in the college food court or visit the Tim Hortons right on campus. In addition, students are invited to stop by the Cave, which is run by the LCSA and is a place where students can relax over a game of pool, video games, ping pong or TV.

Should you find yourself battling the flu, you can make an appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner at the Health Centre on campus. And you can keep in fighting form by working out at the campus fitness facilities, which include two racquetball/squash courts, a weight room, dance and exercise rooms and the Val Matteotti Gym.

What’s next

Are you wondering what’s next on your “to-do” list? Not much, thankfully.

If you are an Alberta student, we’ll need your high school transcript and transcripts of any post-secondary classes you’ve taken in the province. We can request these on your behalf.

If you live outside of Alberta, you’ll need to submit your high school transcript (as well as transcripts of any post-secondary classes you’ve taken) directly to us.

Admissions will be in touch with you if anything else is needed. You’ll want to confirm your offer quickly to ensure you reserve a spot. You can also monitor your application status online.

If you have questions about your program, the best place to start finding answers is the college’s website. This will give you contact information, course times, start dates and course delivery options (the college offers more than 160 online courses, as well as classes on our campuses in the Crowsnest Pass, Claresholm and Vulcan).

If you have questions about career opportunities for your chosen program, you can check in with the college’s career advisors who can help you see what opportunities await you and match your interests and natural talents.

If you’d like to check the campus out, you’re welcome to take a tour any time, take part in the college’s student for a day program to get a glimpse of day to day life on campus.

If you’re a bit nervous about making the transition to life as a college student, just relax and enjoy New Student Orientation to hear everything you need to know before entering the classroom.

All of these opportunities and more (the annual career fair, hands-on training and practicum

opportunities) await you – all you need to do is ask.
