  • Message from the MayorProud to Belong - your generation, your stories

Come out and meet your neighbours, share your cultures, celebrate the community’s many languages and learn about each other’s faiths. We don’t even have to leave Hobsons Bay to enjoy iconic architecture, worldly flavours, and spiritual adventures. It is all right here in our local community. From our First Nation people to our successive waves of migrants, our diversity is continually changing and shaping our community. Let’s celebrate this diversity together to connect and share in our common humanity.

Council acknowledges that these activities occur on the traditional lands of the Kulin Nation. We recognise the First People’s relationship to this land and offer our respect to their elders, past and present.

“On behalf of all the Victorian Multicultural Commission, we commend Hobsons Bay City Council for its dedication to celebrating diversity and helping inclusion to thrive. The Commission is a very proud partner of Hobsons Bay, one of Victoria’s most diverse areas which embraces its diversity as an asset and strength. We wish all Hobsons Bay residents a very happy Cultural Diversity Week, and look forward to enjoying the colourful array of events with you.”

Ms Helen Kapalos Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission

"This brochure brings you one week of fun and engaging activities across Hobsons Bay.

I am so pleased with our 2019 Cultural Diversity Week events program and I look forward to going to as many of the events as possible! I am proud that our local community centres and neighbourhood houses, local community groups and Council are contributing to such a wonderful program to celebrate our diversity.”

Councillor Jonathon Marsden Mayor of Hobsons Bay

“We love participating in Cultural Diversity Week in Hobsons Bay each year! Events like Harmony Community Lunch and Places of Worship Tours have united us and broadened our minds.”

Ms Myly Nguyen Hobsons Bay Interfaith Network member and Hobsons Bay Vietnamese Association President
