KOHA (Molnár-athon) Project

• partly inspired by RIMMF3, Jane-athons („hackathon for creating RDA linked data about the works of Jane Austen and related resources”)

KOHA: open source ILS we use as

1. sandbox: modelling technical implementation in MARC 21 environment

2. training tool: demonstrating RDA-based description processes in MARC 21 (before that: RIMMF3; screenshots: Virtua, OliSuite)

Linked Data Pilot Project

Aim:

• to figure it out how we shall do it down the road

• RDA training: demonstrating the purpose of implementing the new standard

Project steps:

• data set related to Ferenc Molnár was created in KOHA (in MARC 21 with RDA spec. fields)

• converted in BIBFRAME

• published through Virtuoso

• can be queried using Flint SPARQL Editor

Not cooperating tentacles

Aim:

• automated queries of relevant databases

• automated data exchange with EUIPO database

Problems:

• lack of relevant databases (those of listed in the directive)

• lack of relevant databases with standard interface

• no use of standards (ONIX)

• lack of relevant metadata in library databases (requirement of autopsy; in the future: RDA? GDPR?)

DSM – another nice try?

Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market (DSM Directive) – voted by the Council on 15th of April, published on 17th of May

• a new regime enabling easier access to works defined as out-of-commerce

• text and data mining exception serves as an opportunity to establish projects such as Corpus in BnF (supporting researchers in data mining of copyrighted materials [e.g. legal deposit])
