Transcript of Let me Show You the Right Way Lesson 1, The Cell Phone Camera
The Cell Phone Camera
It is an amazing device:
You can take decent quality pictures and record acceptable live video
Now most everyone has the opportunity to be on the evening news, or to have a video go viral on YouTube
But a professional camera it isn’t
Many have limited resolution and high compression, which result in compromised quality
The Cell Phone Camera
Given you want the best possible recording to give the best possible playback,
there is one thing that many people are doing absolutely wrong!
That’s OK.
As my late father used to tell me:
LET ME SHOW YOU THE RIGHT WAY!
Portrait Mode Is “OK”
for viewing on a
Cell Phone 100% of the screen is used
Image is Scaled at 100% (full size)
Like looking through a doorway
Landscape Mode is also Fine for
viewing on a Cell Phone
100% of the screen is used
100% Scaled
Like Looking through a
picture window
Landscape Mode is Great for viewing
on a PC or TV
100% of the screen is used
Image is Scaled at 100%
(full size)
More natural way of
viewing the world
After all, our eyes are side by side, not on top of
each other!
So What’s the Problem?
Not everyone wants to view your stuff on their cell phone
They may want to use a PC or even their flat panel TV
Most displays have a Horizontal orientation
Portrait Mode on a PC is a problem
Only 56% of screen is used
Picture is scaled 56%
HD: 1920 x 1080
1080/1920 = 0.56
You are making everything half size!
So Remember:
For Maximum Picture size on the most display devices – Shoot in
Landscape Mode
Portrait Mode is OK, if your subject doesn’t fit, but remember, you can usually move or zoom to make things fit in Landscape mode
