Peace Through Understanding

Lester B. Pearson C.I. is a full service school  withstudents representing 56 different countries, speaking 42languages, and practicing 17 different religions. Specialist High Skills Major -Health and WellnessThe Health and Wellness SpecialistHigh Skills Major (SHSM) allowsstudents to acquire technicalknowledge and skills that will assistthem in entering a future career inmedicine, health or education. Pearson students will receiverecognition on their high school diploma and a set ofindustry-recognized certification. This program is recognized bycolleges, universities, and employers, giving our students a headstart in life.

Pre & Advanced Placement (AP)Our AP program is recognized by universities in both Canada andthe United States. Students can earn advanced standing atuniversity in Mathematics and the Sciences through our APCalculus and Physics courses.  Be challenged by our enriched(pre-AP) English, Math, and Science courses.

Co-operative Education & OYAPNow more than ever before students can test drive the career oftheir choice by taking Co-op courses with the option of OYAP toenhance their learning.  The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program(OYAP) allows students to earn trade apprenticeship hours for freein their chosen field while earning Co-op credits at the same time.

Dual Credit CoursesPearson is partnered with several colleges in Toronto to offercollege courses absolutely free through our Dual Credit program.Upon successful completion of the course, students can receive twohigh school credits and one college credit.

Tutoring Programs and School SupportThe Peer Tutor program pairs students with a peer tutor trainedthrough 'Licence to Learn'.  Imani is another tutoring programoffered by University of Toronto.  Pearson also has a Language Lab,Focus on Success program, Continuous Intake Co-op, and CreditRecovery.  The Malvern Family Resource Centre offers support forour students and their families.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Pearson has a vibrant tradition of co-curricular programs,allowing students to explore their interests and enhancetheir skills and talents as well as broaden their interactionswith other students and staff. Leadership opportunitiesinclude the Students’ Administrative Council, PeerLeadership Network, Unity Leadership, YMCA LeadershipDevelopment Program, Yearbook Committee, Prefects,Athletic Council, Super Council, and Trinity Theatre.  Wehave over 70 competitive athletic teams, clubs andintramural activities for everyone. Dramatic productions areflourishing including an annual exciting school play. Students play a vital role in organizing and participatingin the many assemblies and events we celebrate at Pearson,such as Remembrance Day, Black History Month,International Night, Mayfair, Semi Formal, Prom and somuch more. In addition, there are opportunities to becomeinvolved in larger global issues through Free the Childrenand World Vision, which conduct campaigns to raise fundsand awareness, such as the 30 Hour Famine.  It is through being involved in our school and community thatwe uphold our motto – Peace through Understanding.

Pearson reaches the whole student. A strong academicprogram is enhanced by equally strong co-curriculars. Students can participate in athletics, leadershipdevelopment, and interest clubs. We offer a wide range ofoptions to explore: Arts, Technology, Business, SocialSciences, Physical Education, etc.Reaching the whole student means that we are constantlylooking for ways to support and meet student needs andinterests. Our Co-operative Education program includesboth two and four credit programs. We have partnershipswith colleges to offer post secondary credits.  Our SpecialistHigh Skills Major in Health & Wellness is a program uniqueto the Northeast region of the TDSB. 

Parent and Community Engagement

Pearson has been selected to become a Full Service school,welcoming community groups to use this facility in non-schoolhours.  Pearson has fostered partnerships and connections withcommunity organizations and businesses such as the MalvernFamily Resource Centre, YMCA Employer Services, NewcomerYouth Services, Taibu Community Health, and the Malvern PublicLibrary.We are assisted by a strong School Advisory Council thatmeets each month. The focus of these meetings are to improvecommunication between parents and the school community. Parents are eager to work together to fundraise for studentscholarships.  Our own teachers raise funds as well for the samepurpose.  We acknowledge our student success with ourCommencement Ceremonies, Recognition Assemblies and Studentof the Month awards during Staff Meetings.
