My Retail Experience …

Put up a small stall in a College Canteen in 1999…

Friends and I put together 10k each to be able to put up a small hotdog stand. In 2 days, we got our Return On Investment…

That did well for 6 months…

Used money we earned to put up another retail concept… Zappy Burgers

Opened 3 branches. Did not really take off… But our careers did

Retail had to be put on hold

Post Mortem: What happened?

1. We got stuck with selling hotdogs and did not change;

2. We chose the wrong locations; 3. We wanted to expand so quickly; we failed to focus 4. No one wanted to do it full time

But at least we did one thing right… We saved our friendship.

What is Grit?

Time.com in its article “ Is the Secret to Success as Simple as just not giving up? “ written by Eric Barker, September 18, 2014 defines “Grit” as: “Perseverance and Passion for long term goals” “ Researchers have found that grit exists apart from IQ and is more predictive of success than IQ in a variety of challenging environments from Ivy league schools to military academics to the National Spelling Bee”

Do it now because…

“The only place where Success comes before Work is in the Dictionary”

and

“99% of Failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses”

Business is like a Bamboo Tree…

It starts small… 1. BUSINESS IS LIKE A BAMBOO TREE – You need to take

very good care of it… 2. MUST BE WATERED DAILY – else it does not grow…. 3. WHEN MATURE IT IS VERY RESILIENT– It can weather

storms as long as someone watches over it 4. OVER TIME IT GROWS BIG AND EXPANDS
