Layers of the Earth
Chorus
Throw your hands up for the layers of the
earth
Throw em up for whats below the surface
Throw your hands up, and lets discuss
The inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust
Verse I
The layer well discuss first
Is the central inner core, in the center of the
earth
A solid ball buried below the dirt
We believe its primarily metallic iron
You could never take a trip to the inner core,
right?
The heat will burn you up, 9,000 Fahrenheit
4,000 miles below the Earths crust
One down three to go yall.
1,800 miles from the tip top
The outer core is hard at work and it dont
stop.
Its busy spinning around the inner core, and
listen,
This steady movement causes Earths
magnetism.
Ranging from 4 to 9,000 degrees,
It contributes 1/5 of the heat flowin to you
and me.
Its liquid metals that violently flow
So let it settle and when youre ready let me
know. Just
Chorus
Verse II
The mantle layer is the largest of the class.
About half of our planets mass.
The mantel is composed of very hot dense
rocks,
That move and flow, always on the go, they
never lock,
Never stop, and theyre responsible for
tectonic shift
Please believe the Earths plates are adrift
Its pretty thick and the heat is awesome
1,600 at the top, 4,000 at the bottom
The continental crusts surface is where we
breathe
A lot of rock up to 25 miles deep.
The oceanic crust is next door
Its 3-5 miles thick just below the ocean
floor.
Earths surface: 70% H20.
Where do you get all that water? Salty sea
flow,
fresh waters in the glaciers, ice caps, and
snow.

THE EARTH
Earth is the planet on which we live. As you know, the Moon goes round the Earth.
Exploring Earth from Space:
- Can you see the Oceans?- Can you see the Clouds?- Can you see the Continents?
Size of the Sun as compared to Earth
The Sun has a diameter of about 1,392,000 km.
Earth's diameter is 12,742 km. The diameter of
the Sun is thus 109 times as great as the
Earth's diameter. In other words, you could line
up 109 Earths across the Sun.

Earths Four Spheres:
The Earths four parts are called the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.

GEOSPHERE
Geosphere refers to the solid parts of the Earth. It has three layers: core, mantle and crust.

The Earths crust: The thick surface of the Earth. The crust is underlain by the mantle. The
crust is in contact with the atmosphere.
It has two parts: The oceanic crust and the continental crust.
The Oceanic Crust is the part of Earth's that surfaces in the oceans.
The Continental Crust is the layer which form the continents.
Mantle: the part of the Earth that is deep below the surface and surrounds the CORE (=centre).
It is divided into two parts:
Upper mantle: It is formed by solid materials and magma (hot liquid rock inside the Earth)
Lowe mantle: It is formed by solid materials.
Core: The central part of the planet. It is divided into two parts:
Outer core: The outer core of the Earth is a liquid layer above the solid inner core.
Inner core: It is formed by solid materials.
HYDROSPHERE
Hydrosphere: Is the "water sphere" that includes all the water of the earth system.
The hydrosphere is the liquid water component of the Earth. It includes the oceans, seas, lakes,
and rivers. The hydrosphere covers about 70% of the surface of the Earth and is the home for
many plants and animals.

ATMOSPHERE
Atmosphere: It is the air round the Earth.
The atmosphere of our home planet is made up
of three primary gases. These gases are
oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. In addition to
these three gases, there are many other gases
in the atmosphere, in trace or small amounts.
Additionally there are small particles, or
particulates floating in the atmosphere, such
as dust, water, and pollen.
The Layers of Our Atmosphere
In order to better understand our atmosphere scientists have divided it into several layers. These
layers are divided based on the characteristics of the gases found at that height. Each layer in our
atmosphere is referred to as a sphere.
The first layer of the atmosphere is fortunately not made out of cake, but rather it is made out of
the gases that we breathe everyday. This layer is called the troposphere. The troposphere is the
layer that we live Atmosphere phenomenon: Wind and Rain
How does rain form?
Water droplets form from warm air. As the warm air rises in the sky it cools. Water vapour
(invisible water in the air) always exists in our air. Warm air holds quite a bit of water. For example,
in the summer it is usually very humid. When enough of these droplets collect together, we see
them as clouds. If the clouds are big enough and have enough water droplets, the droplets bang
together and form even bigger drops. When the drops get heavy, they fall because of gravity, and
you see and feel rain.
What causes rain?
When clouds develop or rain occurs, something is making the air rise. Several things can make this
happen. Mountains, low-pressure areas, cold fronts, and even the jet stream (small rivers).

How big are raindrops?
Raindrops are much smaller than we think! They are actually smaller than a centimetre. Raindrops
range from 1/100 inch (.0254 centimetre) to 1/4 inch (.635 centimetre) in diameter.
BIOSPHERE
Biosphere: The biosphere is the life zone of
the Earth and includes all living organisms,
including man, and all organic matter that has
not yet decomposed.
What is the Biosphere?
All regions of the Earth those are capable of supporting life.
