    Objective:To check / monitor students progress in

    reading

    1. Make students refer to their files andtake a look at all the difficult words they

    have written in them.2. Get students to pronounce the words as

    they have been taught.While a particular student reads:

    1. Teacher corrects any mistakes made.2. The rest will read on their own while

    waiting for their turn.

    WORD STUDY

    Objective:

    Students will recap the definition ofprefixes and recall how they change themeaning of words when added to them.

    1. Engage student by asking them todescribe what a prefix is.

    2. Show students two prefixes taught misand un and get student response on

    their meanings.

    3. Show students some root word andprefix cards and make them match toform a new word.

    4. Make them guess the meanings of thenew words formed.

    5. Discuss student answers and correctstudent mistakes.

    6. Review the rule of prefixes taught andcheck student understanding bychecking their worksheets.

    2. Ask students to write difficult words ontheir worksheet and guide their

    understanding.3. Get students to focus on the element of

    surprise found in all the books they arereading.

    After reading:

    1. Get student response on what they feltafter reading the book.

    2. Ask them what is the element ofsurprise as found in the book.

    3. Make students recall a time when theywere surprised by someone or an event

    and make them jot down as a diaryentry what the experience was all about.

    4. Ask students to highlight how they feltduring the experience.

    5. Get students to share their experienceswith other group members.

    Objective:Students will improve writing fluency

    1. Review words with the prefixes learnt inthe lesson and encourage students towrite as many words as they canremember from the words they have

    seen or read.

    2. Ask each student to stand up and readthe words they have written and shareto the class.

    3. Monitor and help students with theirspelling and pronunciation.

    Objective:Students will reinforce their

    understanding in topics taught (in this

    2. Get students to match them correctlyand group them according to compound

    words and words with prefixes.3. Get student response on the meanings of

    the new words formed.4. Correct student mistakes and if time

    permits, let students play any other
