Story Suggestion: Joshua 5:13-15; 6:1-27 Joshua led the Israelites to victory in the Battle of Jericho. God told Joshua to have the people march around the city seven times in complete silence. At the end of the seventh time around the city, Joshua charged the trumpeters to blow their trumpets, and the walls of the city fell down! Game Ideas: Lesson 13 - Joshua & the Battle of Jericho “The General Says” Directions: The "General" stands in the middle of the circle of chairs or in front of the lined- up group and gives commands to each person. These commands are not to be obeyed unless the command begins with the words, "The general says." Anyone who follows orders without this authority is out of the game and must sit down. Sample commands might include: “Scratch your ear.” “Lift your left leg.” “Salute.” “Place both hands on your head.” “Knock Down the Wall” – Directions: Make a pyramid of plastic bottles (detergent bottles would work well). Place three on the bottom, two in the middle, and one on top. Provide three bean bags. Players must upset all of the bottles with three chances to win a prize. Play until all of the children have received a small prize.

Snack Ideas: A good snack for this lesson would be:

Edible Walls Ingredients: Large marshmallows Small marshmallows Peanut butter and/or chocolate icing Toothpicks

Directions: Let children build walls with different sized marshmallows, using peanut butter and/or chocolate icing for the cement and toothpicks to hold it together. Then tear it down by eating it!

Kids Party Mix (Allergy alert: Peanuts) Ingredients: Cheerios cereal Teddy Grahams M&Ms Butterscotch chips Raisins Salted peanuts

Directions: Use equal parts of each ingredient and serve in individual zip-lock snack baggies. Another good snack for this lesson would be:

Warrior Helmet Materials:

Cereal box (or other similar cardboard box) Poster board 2 paper fasteners Construction paper Pencil Ruler Scissors Glue Tape

Directions:

Print out the sheets below for directions on completing this craft. They are pretty involved and will need quite a bit of preparation before class. But the kids will love these helmets. You will find the templates needed, as well as the directions for making the craft on the following pages.

Trumpet

Materials: Yellow construction paper Empty cardboard tube Glue

. Directions: Cut out horn shapes on the

construction paper. Each child will need two horn shapes.

Glue the shapes around the paper tube. This gives the horn a nice round shape where they can place their mouths.

Suggested Prayer:

“God, you are so great and so wonderful. Thank you for giving us courage to be warriors for you. Help us to tell others about you. Amen.”
