User Needs Analysis

• User centered design process is to understand the user’s needs.

• Whereas Requirements analysis focuses on the elements needed to be represented in the system

• The main purpose of needs analysis is the user's satisfaction.

• As it focuses on the needs of the human, needs analysis is not limited to addressing the requirements of just IT, but can be applied to any domain, such as automotive, consumer product or services such as banking.

• Although it is not a business development tool, it can be used to help in the development of a business case.

User Needs Analysis

The analysis would work through such areas as:• defining who the users are• defining their tasks and goals• their experience levels• what functions they want and need from a

system• what information they want and need• understanding how the users think the

system should work. Ref: wikipedia

Development (Design) & Testing

In general the process/flow of a systems development and testing are as follows:

1. Development would create a system following the user needs assessment and budget

2. They would send to a QA tester to test the system

3. The QA tested would check that the system is installed properly….

Development (Design) & Testing

3. The QA tester would normally use the system as a user does to truly test the functionality and to find any glaring issues

4. The system would be rolled out to a test bed of users (50-100) and be tested for a few weeks or months

5. The system would then be rolled out to everyone in production following a set schedule

Development (Design) & Testing

6. During these steps the team would be obtaining sign-off and agreement from managers and other teams

7. Also a change record would be raised when the first roll-out occurs

Imaging

• Open lab manager and create a copy of COMP2071-WIN7 to work with

• Double-click the Macrium.exe file and install “Macrium-Reflect”

• Create an image of the system file (simulation in class)
