It is our pleasure to invite you to join us for this our Third Annual Female Production Sale, being held at our Athens Division on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 1:30pm.

Our goal here at Lesikar Ranch is to continue to produce Angus cattle that have balanced per-formance with emphasis on carcass merit and efficiency and to offer genetics that will enhance anyone’s program.

This years offering will include progeny from some of our foundation donors such as A+ Black-cap 0037, Sedgwicks Barbara 087, LaGrand Primrose 8244 and GAR Precision 183.

We are grateful to have on our staff Tom Baker, Ranch Manager and Martin Lopez, Assistant Manager. Without their hard work and dedication this event would not be possible.

All cattle in this sale, except those that have no carrier ancestry have been tested free of the genetic defects for Arthrogryposis Multiplex and Neuropathic Hydrocephalus.

Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their per-formance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depend-ing on its availability, appropriate contemporarygrouping or data edits needed for NCE.

Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predic-tor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predic-tor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Maternal Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daugh-ters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

Scrotal Circumference EPD (Scrotal), expressed in centime-ters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size, compared to the progeny of an average bull in the Angus breed.

ULTRASOUNDIntramuscular Fat EPD (%IMF), is a predictor of the difference in a sire’s progeny for percent intramuscular fat in the ribeye muscle compared to other sires.

Ribeye Area EPD (UREA), is a predictor of the difference in square inches of ultrasound ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to the progeny of other sires.

$VALUESWeaned Calf Value (Wean), Feedlot Value (Feedlot), Grid Value (Grid) and Beef Value (Beef) are multi-trait selection indexes ex-pressed in dollars per head to assist commercial beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. A $Value has meaning only when used in comparison to the $Value of another animal. For example, just as with EPDs, variation in $Values between animals indicates average expected differences in the relative value of progeny if random mating is assumed and the calves are exposed to the same environment. Weaned Calf Value (Wean), expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for prewean-ing merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments as-sociated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk and mature cow size.
