Short Biography

Leon Engelen was born in 1943 in Bree (Belgium). He grew up in the middle of an at that time virgin nature, in which there were a lot of beautiful little farms. As a boy, although he was creative, he didn't excel in painting. Leon has attended the painting academy for several years, but then tried to forget all that he had learned and stubbornly carved out his own path.

His starting-point is reality. Everything Leon looks at is automatically reduced to a painting subject: Whatever he is looking at, what he really sees are the structure, the outlines and colours of a drawing or painting.

Leon's work is historically linked to that of the landscape and animal painters of the previous centuries.

To the many children and grandchildren of farmers, he brings the beauty of the countryside; To the stressed he brings the peace and harmony of nature. In this post-realistic world, his is a beaken of structure and essence that reminds us of the true values that live deep inside of all of us.

La mirada de Léon Engelen

León Engelen nació en 1943 en Bree (Bélgica). Creció en un ambiente rural rellenado de encantadoras granjas típicas de la región. Siempre tuvo alma de creador aunque de niño no pareciera tener predisposición particular a la pintura. Sin embargo, observaba e interiorizaba todo lo que veía, preparandose asi sin darse cuenta, para poder reproducir arhora en sus cuadros toda la belleza de antajo.

León Engelen llevó cursos en la academia de pintura durante varios años. En 1974,Engelen empezó a pintar sobre lienzos. El mismo prepara el lienzo según una técnica muy antigua, usando tiza para que la pintura sea absorbida de inmediato, permitiendole de seguir pintando casi sin interrupción.

León Engelen se inspira de la realidad. Ve un tema, comienza a pintarlo y al pintar cambia la realidad y añade elementos hasta que lo que ha visto se transforma en lo que desea ver.

Todo lo que ve puede hacerse cuadro. Al observar un tema, ya tiene la visión del dibujo cresciendo dentro de él, hasta que lo que ve no es el tema, sino la composición y los colores de un nuevo cuadro.

La obra de Engelen retoma la tradición de los pintores de animales y de paisajes de los siglos pasados.

Por ahora Leon Engelen vive y trabaja en Molenstraat 105, 3570 Alken (Bélgica).

Leon Engelen: occhi che guardano

Leon Engelen è nato a Bree 1943 (Belgio). È cresciuto in campagna fra pittoresche fattorie. Benché creativo, come bambino non sapeva bene dipingere. Ma osservava tutto. Man mano ha acquistato visione e è diventato più maturo cosicché possa far rivivere le cose anteriori nei suoi quadri.

Per molti anni Leon ha seguito corsi all’accademia di pittura. Nel 1974 Leon cominciò a dipingere su tela di gesso: è tela che prepara sé stesso e che gli dà altre possibilità. La vernice entra nel fondo e può essere dipinta immediatamente.

Punto di partenza per Leon è la realtà. Un tema ispira, comincia a dipingerlo e durante questo processo cose ci vengono aggiunte, ciò che vede, viene conformato a quello che vuole vedere. Tutto che Leon vede, viene automaticamente ridotto in una pittura. Non può più osservare qualchosa in una maniera normale. S’immagina immediatamente il disegno, la costruzione e i colori.

Il lavoro di Leon segue quello dei pittori di paesaggi e d’animali di secoli passati.

Le regard de Leon Engelen

Leon Engelen est né en 1943 à Bree (La Belgique). Il a grandi au milieu d'une nature vierge avec de magnifiques fermettes. Bien que Leon ait toujours été créatif, il n'était pas spécialement doué pour la peinture en tant qu'enfant. Mais il assimilait tout. Peu à peu il développait une vision, de sorte qu'il puisse aujourd'hui, dans sa peinture, faire revivre les choses d'antan.

Leon a suivi pendant plusieurs années des leçons de peinture à l'académie. En 1974 il a commencé à peindre sur de la toile à craie. Il s'agit d’un technique ancien, permettant au peintre de peindre quasi sans interruption, car la peinture est absorbée immédiatement par le fond de craie et peut être immédiatement recouverte de peinture.

Dans la réalisation de son œuvre, Leon part toujours de la réalité. Un sujet l'inspire, il commence à peindre et pendant qu'il peint, il ajoute des choses. Il adapte la réalité jusqu'à ce qu'il obtienne ne correspond plus à ce qu’il a vu, mais bien a ce qu'il veut voir.

Tout ce que Leon voit est automatiquement transformé en tableau. Le dessin, la construction et les couleurs dont il a besoin,il les voit immédiatement devant lui.

Son travail appartient à la tradition des peintres de paysages et d'animaux des siècles passés.

Leon habite et travaille à présent: 105 Molenstraat à 3570 Alken (La Belgique).

Leon Engelen: Augen die schauen

Leon Engelen wurde 1943 in Bree (Belgien) geboren. Er wuchs auf inmitten einer unberührten Natur, in der es noch viele malerische kleine Bauernhöfe gab. Obwohl er kreativ veranlagt war, zeichnete er sich anfänglich nicht durch Malen aus. Aber unbewußt nahm er seine Umgebung in sich auf. Allmählich bekam er mehr Sicht und wurde er reifer, so daß es ihm jetzt gelingt, die Eindrücke seiner Jugend in seinen Gemälden wiederaufleben zu lassen.

Leon besuchte mehrere Jahre Kurse an der Kunstakademie. 1974 fing er an, auf Kreidetuch zu malen; das ist Leinen, das er selber präpariert. Die Farbe zieht in die Grundschicht und kann sofort übermalt werden.

Leons Ausgangspunkt ist immer die Realität. Ein Thema inspiriert ihn, er fängt es zu malen anund während dieses Verfahrens werden Sachen hinzugefügt, wird das Gesehene umgeändert zu dem was er sehen will.

Wann er einen Gegenstand betrachtet, sieht er sofort die Zeichnung, den Aufbau und die Farben die er braucht, vor sich. Er betrachtet alles als Thema für ein Gemälde und kann die Welt auchnicht mehr auf eine andere Weise betrachten.

Leons Werk reiht sich ganz nahe an das der Landschafts- und Tiermaler des vorigen Jahrhunderts an.
