We will begin serving at approximately 5:30 p.m. and will continue until 7:30 p.m., or whenever the food runs out. As in the past, there is no charge for the supper, although we will be accepting donations to help defray the costs. Friends and neighbors are welcome! Sign-up sheets are available at the church. Please be sure to sign up so we’ll know how many guests to plan for. Once again this year the Pancake Supper is hosted by the Brotherhood of St. Andrew in conjunction with the Kitchen Ministry. With programs for adults, youth and children, our hope is that families will come together to make this Lent a time of discipleship, fellowship and worship in preparation for Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross, which opened the door to eternal life for us and for all who know him, and choose to follow him and call him Lord. This year’s theme is “Ultimate Questions: The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.” Fr. Ron Baird will be leading adults and youth on an exploration of life’s big questions, including, in Week 1, “Who is God, and how can we know him?” In subsequents weeks we’ll be considering: “Creation: How did we get here?”; “Human Beings and Sin: How did things get so messed up?”; “Is there any hope? What is salvation, and how do I know if I have it?”; “Is Jesus coming back? If so, what are we supposed to be doing between now and then?” The study program will be held from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Each evening will begin with a simple supper of soup and salad, followed by a teaching by Fr. Ron Baird. Participants will then break into small groups for discussion and reflection. We’ll conclude with a brief time of prayer and worship. We’re also planning a program for our children, which will include a lesson, music and crafts. As in the past, we’re asking parishioners to contribute to the weekly meals by bringing a soup or salad to share. Sign up sheets for the study program, meals, and volunteers for our children’s program and nursery, are available in the Narthex. Prayers for the Church Following the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Archbishop Bernard Ntahouri and for the bishops, priests, deacons, religious, and laity of L’Eglise Anglicane du Burundi (The Anglican Church of Burundi). Anglican worship in Burundi began with the establishment of a mission station in 1935. Since then, the Church in this east African nation has grown rapidly, became an independent Province of the Anglican Communion in 1992, and now numbers some 900,000 members (about 10 percent of the nation’s population) in seven dioceses

Burundi is one of the predominantly French-speaking provinces in the Anglican Communion. A 12-year long genocide and civil war between the Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups ended just ten years ago, leaving the Church and nation with much loss of life and destruction of properties. One of the major concerns of the Church since then has been peace and reconciliation. Very sadly, just last month, the African Union and western groups sounded the alarms that the country is experiencing increasing inter-ethnic violence and may be on the brink of more genocide and/or civil war. On Dec. 9, an armed group attacked St. Mark Anglican Church, killing a son of the assistant pastor and wounding two others. The motive for the attack has not been published.

Please pray especially for the Church’s efforts, and all efforts, to maintain peace and bring about reconciliation, for all those killed and harmed by violence in the country, and for those perpetuating the violence.

Following the ACNA Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Bishop Winfield Mott and for the Diocese of the West.

Following the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Fr. Martin Gornik, Fr. Scott Buck, Fr. Robert Magoola, Mother Pam Buck, Deacons Chris Millard and Adam Loose, and the people of Apostles Anglican Church, Lexington, Kentucky.

Following the Parish Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Wini Cloran; Jim and Carolyn Connors Doris Cook; the Sisters in the Spirit Small Group; and the Daughters of the Holy Cross. We also pray for those working in the transportation and trucking industries; God protect them and bring them safely to their destinations.

Winter weather notice Please remember to check our website before heading out for events and activities at the church if weather conditions are deteriorating. If a cancellation affects a majority of the congregation, we will also send a parish-wide e-mail. Church service cancellations will also be posted on local TV stations.

Encouragement for your prayer time with GodWhen we have to wait for an answer to prayer, we must realize that sometimes there is a battle over our prayers. The devil doesn’t want us to rely on God. “For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12) “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” (2Thessalonians 3:3) — From the St. Andrew’s Prayer Ministries Team

would not be open to approving a major driveway north of the Parish House. The engineer’s office cited safety concerns with the drive being so close to the South Old State-Orange Road intersection.Moving the drive south of the Parish House to allow for access to the back of the property would have effectively cut our property in half, which the Vestry has decided is not in the best interest of the parish.

The beauty of a Christmas Eve service doesn’t just happen by

magic. Light bulbs need to be replaced, poinsettias placed, wreaths hung high, liquid candle wax replenished, votive candle holders washed, and more. Here’s but a glimpse of the activity that went on behind the scenes on the last Sunday of Advent to prepare the Sanctuary for our celebration of the Feast of the Incarnation of our Lord.
