Of His Son Jesus Christ

The Paschal Mystery is the central mystery of the Christian Faith,

celebrated at the Easter Triduum

with a sublime and unique solemnity

The Term 'paschal' is derived from the word

'pasch', not simply because the events from the Last Supper through

the crucif ixion and resurrection of Christ

happened to coincide with Passover.

The event celebrated by Passover

-- the deliverance of Israel from enslavement in Egypt

-- is itself the anticipation of the full deliverance won

by Christ for the whole human race.

PASSOVER 1:

When the angel passed over the doors of the Israelitesmarked with

the blood of the lamb and God protected them.

PASSOVER 2: When the Israelites passed over the Red

Sea from Egypt (slavery) into the Promised

Land.

PASSOVER 1:

On Holy Thursday Jesus became

our sacrif icial Lamb.By his blood we are

saved and protected by God.

PASSOVER 2: DARKNESS TO LIGHT

Holy Saturday night – Church begins Easter with

a liturgy of light.Church is in darkness

= the darkness of the worldThe priest blesses and

lights the Easter candle = Christ – the Alpha and Omega

Priest enters the church: “Christ our Light”.

By His death and in His resurrection He annihilated the devil and triumphed over him.

but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fel lowship with one another, and

the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1Jn1:7)

PASSOVER 2 (b): KINGDOM OF DARKNESSTO KINGDOM OF LIGHT

3. PASSOVER FROM SIN TO FREEDOM!

• With the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus

-- we are set free-- no longer slaves

but sons and daughters of God

3. PASSOVER FROM SIN TO FREEDOM!

• We know that the person we used to be was crucif ied

with him to put an end to sin in our bodies.

Because of this we are no longer slaves to sin. (Rom6:6)

LIFE.We do not have to be afraid

of death anymore – l i fe does not end

when we die – i t is merely transformed.

has eternal l i fe; and I wil l raise him up

on the last day.John 6:54
