Lemuria  is the name of a hypothetical ‘’lost land" variously located between the India ,Africa and island of Madagascar.

It is second big land bridge The concept's 19th-century origins lie

in attempts to account for discontinuous distribution of animals ; however, the concept of Lemuria has been rejected due to modern theories of plat tectonics.

It was named ‘’Lemuria’’ because it was designed to explain the distribution of lemurs.

Lemurs is a primate which lives on Madagascar

Size from mouse to that of a dog They are aboreal, nocturnal, and have fox

Where they are known as lorises.

Original lemurus are found in madagascar and comoro island only.

REJECTION OF LEMURIA LAND BRIDGE THEORY This hypothesis has now been rejected

because;1) Lemurus and Lorises have evolved from

same early primate stock, and not related to each other.

2) fossil record of lemurs and lorises ancestors have been found in Paleocene and Eocene rocks in north( Europe and north America).

3) The Lemuria theory disappeared completely from conventional scientific consideration after the theories of plate tectonics and continental drift were accepted by the larger scientific community.
