MYcroscopy: Specifically configured for universal applicationsThe new Leica DM Microscopes are designed for biological, medi-cal, and clinical laboratories and are specifically configured forindividual applications.

• The Leica DM1000 satisfies all requirements for ergonomic useas well as optical brilliance, and is ideal for clinical laboratoryapplications.

• In addition, the Leica DM2000 features a sophisticated focusmechanism with five focus functions – either 2-gear or 3-gearfocusing, with torque adjustment and adjustable stage height stop.

• The Leica DM2500 also offers powerful 100 W illumination and is particularly well-suited to the fields of pathology and biomedical research that require specialized contrast methods such asdifferential interference contrast (DIC).

• With its unique ergonomic concept, the intelligent automation of the Leica DM3000 supports greater efficiency and enhanced user comfort. The microscope is designed for use in clinical laboratoriesas well as all other biomedical routine and research applications.

1. Height-adjustableFocus Knobs

A technological first in microscopy!No two hands are alike and the Leica DMSeries makes sure that every hand can reston the focus knobs in a completely relaxedmanner. The height of the focus knobs canbe adjusted quite easily to precisely fit anindividual user’s hand. This prevents hand,arm, and shoulder tension and ensures acomfortable and fatigue-free grip – withoutthe need for additional arm supports.

2. Adjustable Tubes

Relaxed head postureThe arrangement of the tubes is very impor-tant to promote good posture while sitting atthe microscope. The Leica DM Series offersa wide range of products for individual tubesettings. Choose from a new tube with anergonomic viewing angle of 15° or adjustableVariotubes for a relaxed head position whileviewing. This prevents neck and back mus-cle strain, and shoulder and lower neckmuscles remain free from tension, even overlengthy work periods. The optional ErgoLifteven allows the viewing height and angle ofthe stand as a whole to be adjusted asrequired.

3. True SymmetricalOperation

Comfortable shoulder posture prevents strainThe stage drive and focus knob are arrangedat the same height on the microscope toform a straight line. Also, the focus knob andstage drive are an equal distance from theuser. Because of this symmetrical arrange-ment, both hands are positioned in a straightline during work and the shoulders automat-ically assume a right-angle position to theaxis of the body. The user sits at the micro-scope in a straight and relaxed posture, andno longer needs to contort his or her shoul-ders and spinal column into an awkward,turned position.

4. Fast Changeover from Right- to Left-hand Operation

One-of-a-kind in microscopy!You can set up the Leica DM Microscopesfor either right-handed or left-handed oper-ation as the default. Especially when alter-nating users on one microscope, this featureis greatly beneficial.

Effortless Microscopy is a Question of Comfort

With the new Leica DM Microscope Series, Leica Microsystems has achieved its goal ofmaking routine work at the microscope as comfortable and effortless as possible. Only a fewhand movements are required to adjust the microscope to the user’s seated height, headposture, arm length, and hand size. This provides reliable protection from muscular tension,poor posture, and long-term detrimental health effects. Microscopy has never been morecomfortable and pleasant.

5. UniqueUltra-hard Surface

Designed to last a lifetimeThe stage’s surface is made of a newceramic material that is harder than everbefore. This makes the stage resistant toscratches and chemicals, and completelydurable for even the toughest usage foryears on end. The light beige color of theceramic material provides the ideal back-ground on which to identify specimens bytheir outline and coloring before they areplaced under the objective.

6. New Design

More work spaceThe new ergonomic stage features wellrounded edges and corners. The entiremicroscope is compactly designed, with noprotruding parts. Another advantage of thecompact design is the additional work spacethat is gained around the microscope.

7. ErgonomicControl Knobs

Comfort is at handAs an alternative to the standard knobs,special rubberized knobs are available forthe focus drive. These ErgoKnobs provide acomfortable, secure grip. For the knobs ofthe x-y drive, replaceable sleeves made ofsoft, yet firm rubber are recommended. Thesleeves are included with the stage drive andare simply pulled over the knobs to providethe feeling of sensitive control.

8. Comfortable ErgoLift

Variable height adjustmentTo adjust the height of the entire microscopein a simple and stable manner, the DM1000,DM2000, DM2500 and DM3000 can beequipped with the ErgoLift – a specialadjustable plate that adjusts the microscopeto the seated height of each user with just afew hand movements.

9. Simultaneous Focus and Stage Control

One hand at the microscope will sufficeThe focus and stage can be adjusted withjust one hand. This allows faster, betterflowing procedures. While one hand (left orright) moves and focuses the specimen, theother hand is free to take notes or operatecounters, for example.

10. New Slide Holders

More ergonomic and efficient workLeica’s new slide holders help to makemicroscope work easier. The slide holdersare constructed so that specimens can bechanged with one hand – and just one handmovement. The specimen is inserted intothe holder and removed from it using justtwo fingers. This ensures a fast, fluid work-flow.

11. Premiere: Color-coded Diaphragm Settings

Faster identification and adjustmentThe scale of the aperture diaphragm on thecondenser features color-coded markings.The markings correspond to the standard-ized color codes of the objectives. Thisallows the user to identify, at a glance, thediaphragm that is the best match for thecurrently selected objective, and to con-figure the settings quickly and correctly.

12. Easy Lamp Replacement

Fast maintenanceThe lamps can be replaced easily and invery little time. Just remove the small plugsocket from the side of the microscope,replace the lamp, and reinsert the socketinto the microscope – and you’re done. Themicroscope does not need to be moved outof position to replace the lamp.

13. The New Optics

Brightness, brilliance, contrastThe Leica DM Series features spectacularoptical quality – every time you look throughthe microscope. Beautiful brilliance andrazor-sharp contrast await the viewer. LeicaMicrosystems’ high-quality optics allow eventhe finest structures to come into clear view,which makes identification easy. Leica hasdeveloped the new HI PLAN Planachromatobjective series, which offer improved flat-tening and color correction. The HI PLAN10x objective is particularly well-suited toclinical applications such as cytology, andhas a large working distance of 12 mm,which allows specimens to be marked at10x magnification.

14. Brightness-matched Objectives

No need to adjust light intensityLeica’s new HI PLAN SL (Synchronized Light)objective series with 4x, 10x and 40x magni-fication is particularly easy on the eyes. Theseobjectives are matched to each other so thatthe bright-ness always remains constant forthe user, regardless of the magnificationselected. This eliminates the need to use thebrightness adjustment continuously andprevents rapid eye fatigue due to largefluctuations in light intensity. The preferredcolor impression remains the same.

15. New HI PLAN CYObjective

Special objectiveLeica’s special Planachromat HI PLAN CY10x/0.25 objective features excellent fieldflattening and color correction, while offer-ing a long working distance of 12 mm forclinical applications. Also available in the SLversion.

16. Overview Objective

1.25x objective – for the first glanceEspecially for clinical microscopy, Leicaoffers a screening objective with 1.25x mag-nification. Specimens can be surveyed andrecorded quickly and easily.

17. The NewFluorescence Axis

Five filter block positions providegreater flexibilityLeica’s stable, high-quality fluorescenceaxis features five filter block positions. Theuser can rapidly switch back and forthbetween them. Leica’s extensive range offilters can be used on a wide variety offluorochromes. Leica’s filter blocks feature“Zero Pixel Shift”, which ensures that thereis no image shifting when changing filterblocks and so allows images to be correctlysuperimposed.

Everything the Eye Desires: Optical Brilliance

Leica microscopes are well-known for excellent optics. Users can expect both excellent imagequality from the Leica DM Series and exceptional viewing comfort. The DM Microscopesallow optical settings to be configured quickly and reliably, which prevents eyestrain, whileensuring fatigue-free microscopy.

18. Change Objectives at the Touch of a Button

Eyes remain focused and handsremain in place The motorized objective turret permits mag-nifications to be changed in only half a sec-ond. The turret is controlled by two buttonsconveniently located behind the focusknobs. The additional toggle mode is aunique feature of the new DM3000: any twoof the six objectives can be assigned to it.The remaining four objectives remain avail-able at the touch of a button whenever a dif-ferent magnification is required. Six buttonson the base of the microscope are assignedto the six objectives. An optional footpedalis also available for the microscope, whichfrees up the user’s hands for other activitiessuch as note-taking.

19. Automated Condenser Head

More ergonomic and efficient workThe motorized condenser head automaticallyswings out when using objectives with lessthan 10x magnification. It swings back intoposition when a higher magnification isselected. The microscope knows the opti-mal condenser position for every objective.Should special applications make it neces-sary, the user can also adjust the position ofthe condenser individually by assigning thecondenser position to the control buttonson the sides, behind the focus knobs. Themotorization accelerates work processesand one more manual action thus becomessuperfluous.

20. Automatic LightIntensity Adjustment

Optimal light at any magnification The microscope automatically adjusts lightintensity to suit the given magnificationwhenever the objective is changed. Thelast-used light values are stored for eachobjective. The brightness which avoids re-mains constant for the user, which avoidssharp changes in light intensity for extendedwork sessions without eyestrain.

Leica Image Organizer software, with an integrated database, is an easy-to-use tool for imagearchiving, particularly for clinical applications, and is also ideal for any field in which simpleimage storage and search options are required.

Save and Retrieve Data withJust One ClickWith the Leica Image Organizer, a user cansave information about a image includingmicroscope setting, camera setting, speci-men, and patient. All of the data is linked tothe image and can then be retrieved at thetouch of a button.

Easy Storage and Search OptionsUsing the Leica Image Organizer, images canbe saved under multiple categories. Asophisticated search function supports theuse of various criteria to quickly find imagesand data.

Overview or Detailed Image Viewing The Leica Image Organizer displays imageseither in an overview format in the gallery oras single exposures with the magnificationfunction. This way, the user can quickly andreliably find the desired images in thegallery. The magnification function thenreveals the finest image details in razor-sharp clarity.

New Imaging ModuleSpecial imaging module, which can beplaced between the stand and any of thetube from Leica range, provides flexible andupgradeable solution for adaptation of thecameras.
