Girls’ Mankato Results

The host team was the victor in the girls’ meet as Mankato West’s top five runners all placed in the top 12. The Belle Plaine girls finished seventh among the nine teams. Mankato west and chanhas-

sen both had 60 points, but the tiebreaker criteria favored west. Rochester John Marshall was a distant third with 122 points, followed by Mankato East (125), Austin (125), Roch-ester Mayo (127), Belle Plaine (153), Albert Lea (195) and Maple River (195).Emma christensen of John

17 personal records,” said Belle Plaine coach Steve Schroeder when summing up all of the day’s races (boys and girls). “The course was short about 200 meters, but even if we add-ed the time it takes to run the 200 meters, many of the kids had spectacular times. They had a great week of practice and are ready to see what the next few weeks bring.“Kellen Bergs, Kyle Siemon,

Elliot Rudd, Dylan Bigaou-ette and Sam Gregory ran ex-tremely well, finishing within 21 seconds of each other. Alissa Schultz and McKenna Her-rmann led the girls, who all had terrific times as well. We are very excited for our upcoming competitions,” Schroeder con-tinued.

Jefferson High School this Sat-urday before heading to class 3A power chaska for a big nonconference test 7 p.m. next Tuesday.Among the other teams sched-

uled to compete at Blooming-ton Jefferson on Saturday are Bloomington Jefferson, Becker, Bloomington Kennedy, Breck, Burnsville, Edina, Henry Sib-ley, Hibbing, Minneapolis South, Minnehaha Academy, North Branch, Nova classi-cal Academy, Park of cottage Grove, St. Louis Park and win-ona.

Tigers 3, New Prague 0The Tigers battled through

some tough stretches to record a 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 sweep of the Trojans last Tuesday night at the BPHS gym.“you could tell the girls were a

little wiped from the (class 2A Showcase) weekend competi-tion. Add to that the excitement of homecoming, and we were a little too relaxed in our style of play,” said Belle Plaine coach cassie Koch. “with that said, it was nice to see them find some legs and push through to get a victory over a much-improved New Prague squad.”Statistical leaders for Belle

Plaine were Mariena Hayden (16 kills and nine digs), Da-kotah Poitra (10 kills and five digs), Kaylee Hentges (eight kills and two digs), McKenzie Koepp (four kills and two digs), Elizabeth Johnson (11 digs), Taylor Kruger (nine digs) and Danielle Taylor (21 set assists).

Tigers 3 Mayer Lutheran 0In what was expected to be a

battle of MRc unbeatens wasn’t much of a battle at all as the Ti-gers swept the host crusaders 25-10, 25-16, 25-23 Thursday

night.“Right out of the gates the

girls were tuned in and on fire,” Koch said. “Mayer is a tough place to play and we executed our game plan extremely well, not giving them much breath-ing room. They challenged us more as the match went on, but our defense and diverse offense kept them on their heels just long enough.”Hayden again sparked Belle

Plaine with 21 kills, 11 digs, one solo block and four ace serves. Poitra added 12 kills, seven blocks and one ace serve. The other kill leaders for the Tigers were Koepp (6) and Hentges (5). Johnson and Taylor both had 10 digs, the latter of whom also had 39 set assists.

Tigers 3 Waconia 2Belle Plaine had to work hard-

er than any of its previous 13 victories but managed to secure a dramatic 23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 20-18 marathon win at waconia Monday night.“This was an outstanding

match played by both teams,” Koch said. “It was a night full of swinging away and keeping the ball alive. We were defi-nitely challenged, and yet all of our players responded, making great plays at crucial points in the match. This was a great ef-fort to see from our kids mov-ing into October. They battled all night long, and deserved the w.”Hayden smacked 31 kills

and also had 11 digs and four ace serves. Hentges added 12 kills and Poitra 11, the latter of whom also had three ace serves and six digs. Johnson had 27 digs and Kruger 11. Taylor had 53 set assists and 11 digs. Koepp had five kills.
