We asked the children at our school to consider the question “What does Leeds mean to me?”Here are some of their ideas…
Leeds is in the North of England, but thecentre of the UK.
Leeds is in Yorkshire – a beautiful part of England

Leeds has a proud sporting tradition.
Leeds Carnegie
Leeds Carnegie – Rugby Union
• They share a stadium with the other rugby team in Leeds
• They are currently third in the championship• They have a mascot called Terry the Tyke - he’s a dog• They won the Powergen Cup in 2005. It was played
at Twickenham – the home of English Rugby Union• One of their players used to play in France for Toulon

Leeds Rhinos – Rugby League
• In 2012 they won the Rugby Superleague Grand Final• Their colours are blue and amber • They have a mascot called Ronnie - he’s a rhino –
and he came to Calverley Parkside School• Our favourite players are; Ryan Hall, Jamie Peacock,
Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Rob Burrow• Leeds Rhinos are one of the best supported Rugby
League Clubs in the world

• The cricket ground is next to the rugby stadium in Headingley
• The club was founded in 1863• The ground is also used for England matches• Some famous players are Fred Truman, Geoffrey
Boycott, Joe Root and Johnny Bairstow• You used to have to be born in Yorkshire to play for
them, but now they allow overseas players• They are the most successful county cricket side,
with over thirty (30!) Championship wins.
Some of us went on a tour around the ground recently and had a training session with a coach – it was great!
The ‘grand depart’ of this year’s Tour de France begins in Leeds this
summer.

Leeds has theatres and concert
venues.
It has museums and art galleries.
Leeds also has three
universities.
We love its parks and open spaces.
