Welcome to this 25th edition of the “Heathcote Herald”.

In light of the recent State Government Election I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and trust

to re-elect me to represent you in the 57th Parliament of NSW as the Member for Heathcote. I look forward to

continuing to deliver for our community.

In this budget issue I have included a letter from the Premier and Treasurer. A strong NSW Budget allows me

to secure vital local funding to move forward with projects such as:

• Engadine Service NSW Centre

• Engadine commuter carpark

• Engadine High School hall

• Stanwell Park Public School hall

• Heathcote Road upgrade

• Linden Street upgrade

• Helensburgh Town Centre Revitalisation project

• Helensburgh Police Station

• Wattamolla Visitor Precinct

• Royal Coast Track Improvement

• More Trains, More Services program and

delivery of New Intercity Fleet carriages

• SCATL – Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link

I congratulate Dianne Weatherall Heathcote’s Local

Woman of the Year. This prestigious honour was awarded

to Dianne, an extremely active member of our community.

She has served as President of the Sutherland Shire

Lioness Club for 6 terms over the last 40 years. During

this time Dianne has raised valuable funds for recipients

and organisations such as disabled individuals/groups,

cystic fibrosis suffers, Amelie House Women’s Refugee,

Sutherland Hospital Birthing Unit, Youth off the Street,

Margaret House and Bear Cottage.

Investing more than ever in health with another 40 new and upgraded local hospitals and recruiting an extra 8,300 doctors, nurses and health professionals.

Supporting our schools and teachers by hiring 4,600 new teachers and delivering 190 new and upgraded schools.

The 2019-20 NSW Budget maintains our record of responsible financial management,

securing healthy surpluses so we can deliver on our election commitments and keep investing

in the things that matter most.

That means better services in your community, with more nurses, teachers and police, more

help to take the pressure off families, support for drought-affected farmers, and record

infrastructure funding to finish the job on state-building transport projects already underway,

and get started on the next wave.

• A strong economy with opportunity for all: We’re the nation’s leading economy, with

near-record low unemployment. Tax cuts, new job precincts and 100,000 free TAFE and

VET courses will help keep it that way.

• Making NSW the education state: focusing on better outcomes for our children,

with 4,600 more teachers, 190 new and upgraded schools, and $500 million for non-

government schools.

• Quality healthcare when you need it: An historic investment in 8,300 nurses, midwives,

doctors and medical and support staff - almost half of them in regional NSW - and $10

billion in hospital and health infrastructure to help reduce wait times and give patients

better care.

• A world-class transport system: A record $55.6 billion road and transport pipeline to

finish major projects like WestConnex, light rail, and regional highway upgrades, and start

new game-changers like Metro West, to keep transforming the way NSW travels.

• Hip-pocket savings to help your household budget: A $50 weekly cap on Opal fares,

interest free loans for solar power on homes, and a second $100 voucher for each school

child, as well as ongoing stamp duty savings for first home buyers, rego relief for toll

users, and energy bill rebates.

• Standing with our drought-affected communities: Critical relief for the worst-hit

communities, with $1.8 billion in support for stock, fodder and water transport, emergency

water supplies, drought loans and rate relief.

From the city to the bush, the 2019-20 NSW Budget keeps our promises and kick-starts a new

term of delivery. We getting straight back to work and getting the job done for NSW.
