LED TipsDenition of LEDLight Emitting Diode (LED) is a semiconductor (solid state) device that when a voltage is applied across its electrodes it converts the

electric power into light. The emitted light is incoherent monochromatic within a very narrow wavelength and is very much unidirectional, i.e.

very narrow viewing angle. The wavelength of the light, or color depends on the silicon material used in the construction of the LEDs. The

emitted light can be near-ultraviolet, visible or infrared. The difference between a LED light and laser is that in a laser all waves are all of

the same frequency (monochromatic) and all the waves are in phase.

Self-ballasted LED BulbUnit which cannot be dismantled without being permanently damaged provided with a lamp cap conforming to related requirements and

incorporating a LED light source and any additional elements necessary for starting and stable operation of the light source.

Rated Lamp LifeLength of time during which a complete LED bulb provides more than 50 % (or 70 % alternatively) of the rated luminous ux, published incombination with the failure rate, as declared by the manufacturer or responsible vendor. LEEDARSON denes the lifetime of its LED bulbs

as the operating time in which the LED bulbs produce more than 70 % of their initial light output. In doing so, LEEDARSON has already

followed the recommendations of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) which is currently working on an international

standard based on this threshold value.

Luminous FluxIt is the rate of flow of light, measured in lumens(lm). It means the overall output of a lamp. The initial luminous flux of a LED lamp

measured shall not be less than 90 % of the rated luminous ux.

Luminaire EfciencyLuminaire efficiency is an important criterion in gauging the energy efficiency of a luminaire. It is the ratio between the luminous flux

emitted by the luminaire to the luminous ux of the lamp (or lamps) installed in the luminaire.

Lumen MaintenanceThe ability of a lamp to retain its lumen output over time. Greater lumen maintenance means a lamp will remain brighter and longer.

Candela (cd)The measure of luminous intensity of a source in a given direction. The term has been retained from the early days of lighting when

a standard candle of a xed size and composition was dened as producing one candela in every direction. A plot of intensity versus

direction is called a candela distribution curve and is often provided for reectorized lamps and for luminaires with a lamp operating inthem.

Power Factor(PF)A measure of the phase difference between voltage and current drawn by an electrical device, such as a ballast or motor. Power factors

can range from 0 to 1.0, with 1.0 being ideal. Power factor is sometimes expressed as a percent. "High" power factor usually means a

rating of 0.9 or greater. A high power factor means that an electrical system or device is utilizing power efciently.

Color Rendering Index (CRI) CRI indicates the quality of color rendering of articial light sources. The symbol used is Ra. The higher the CRI (based upon a 0-100

scale) the richer colors generally appear. CRI ratings of various lamps may be compared, but a numerical comparison is only valid if the

lamps are close in color temperature. CRI differences among lamps are not usually signicant (visible to the eye) unless the difference is

more than 3-5 points.

Correlated Color Temperature(CCT)A number indicating the degree of "yellowness" or "blueness" of a white light source. Measured in kelvins, CCT represents the temperature

an incandescent object must reach to mimic the color of the lamp. Yellowish-white ("warm") sources, like incandescent lamps, have lower

color temperatures in the 2700K-3000K range; white and bluish-white ("cool") sources, have higher color temperatures. The higher the
