Selective rack
Designed to support and store goods on pallet, especially for heavy goods
Feature (advantages) raw materials fast picking and shipping from storage locations heavy and big size of goods, standard products engineering design for supporting racks work with reach-in truck and forklift product diversification

8
Selective rack (disadvantages)
Considerably consumed service truck lane Loss of storage space more than 50%
compared to drive-in rack Storage cost per unit higher than drive-in
rack
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 9: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
9
Drive-in/ drive-through rack
Designed for pallet load, suitable to store a small number of cargo types with high quantity and high turnover rate
Drive-in vs. driver-through drive-in: put-away and picking in the same
direction drive-through: support for both directions
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 10: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

13
Features of drive-in
Finished product Support last in first out (LIFO) Little consumed truck service lane, design
more than for 8 levels of depth Storage space more than selective rack
70% Storage cost per unit cheaper than
selective rack
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 14: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
14
Drive-in (disadvantages)
Less stable, non-theoretical design Not suitable for heavy goods, high design
cost Need skilled truck drivers Suitable for reach-in truck (narrow aisle truck) Not suitable to store diversified products,
difficult to find product location and to manage picking/shipping operations
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 15: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
15
Push-back rack
Combination between drive-in and LIFO rack, designed for limited storage space
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 16: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
16
Push back (advantages)
Goods stored in many depth levels trucks need not to get in the narrow storage area,
pulling the pallets from outside
Pallets are stacked, LIFO for putting-away and picking
Good for refrigerated storage, truck need not to get, pulling pallets from outside
Very little occupied truck service lane Storage space more than selective rack 50%
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 17: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
17
Push back (advantages)
Cheaper than selective rack but not for drive-in Designed similar to selective rack, supporting
the pallet load more than drive-in Stable structure Normal forklift and non-skilled drivers can
easily operate Same type of goods should be stored in the
same storage slot
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 18: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
18
Push back (disadvantages)
Higher cost per pallet than drive-in rack High M & R cost coz of rail-and-wheeled
structure Cannot store diversified goods Loss of vertical storage due to stacked rail
Faculty of Logistics BUU
![Page 19: Lecture7 - Equipment and Material Handling](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062500/563dbb6e550346aa9aad1825/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
