A Sikh Concept of Warrior

Is a state of mind.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਿੰਗੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਰਹ ਸੋ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਸੂਿਾ ॥ He alone is called a warrior, who is

attached to the Lord's Love in this age.

ਬੀਿਾ ਆਪਨ ਬੁਿਾ ਰਮਟਾਵੈ ॥ ਤਾਹੂ ਬੁਿਾ ਰਨਕਰਟ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥ who eradicates his own evil is a brave warrior;

no evil even approaches him.

ਸੂਿ ਨ ਬੀਿ ਨ ਮੀਿ ਨ ਖਾਨਮ ਸੰਰਗ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਰਰਿਸਰਟ ਰਨਹਾਿਹੁ ॥ Neither warrior, nor hero, nor king

or ruler last forever; see this with your eyes.

ਣਾਣਾ ਿਰਣ ਿੂਤਉ ਨਿ ਨੇਹੀ ਕਿੈ ॥ NANNA: The

warrior who fights on the battle-field should keep up and press on.

ਨਾ ਰਨਵੈ ਨਾ ਫੁਰਨ ਸੰਚਿੈ ॥ He should not yield,

and he should not retreat.

ਧੰਰਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਗਣੈ ॥ Blessed is the coming

of one

ਮਾਿੈ ਏਕਰਹ ਤਰਜ ਜਾਇ ਘਣੈ ॥੨੧॥ who conquers

the one and renounces the many. ||21||

ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਵਰਸ ਕਿਣ ਸਿਣ ਜਾਰਚਕ ਪਿਰਤਪਾਲਣ ॥You have overpowered greed and emotional

attachment; You nurture and cherish those

who seek Your Sanctuary.

ਗੁਿਮਤੀ ਸਬਰਰ ਸੂਿ ਹੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕਿੋਧੁ ਰਜਨ੍ਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥ Those who follow the Guru's Teachings are

the true spiritual warriors; they have

conquered sexual desire and anger.

ਰਜਸੁ ਧੀਿਜੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਧਵਲੁ ਧੁਜਾ ਸੇਰਤ ਬੈਕੁੰ ਠ ਬੀਣਾ ॥ Patience has been His white banner since the beginning of time, planted on the bridge to heaven.d

ਸੈਨਾ ਸਾਧ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੂਿ ਅਰਜਤੰ ਸੰਨਾਹੰ ਤਰਨ ਰਨੰਮਿਤਾਹ ॥ The Holy people are an invincible army of spiritual warriors; their bodies are protected by the armor of humility.

ਆਵਧਹ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਰਬੰਰ ਿਮਣੰ ਓਟ ਗੁਿ ਸਬਰ ਕਿ ਚਿਮਣਹ ॥ Their weapons are the Glorious

Praises of the Lord which they chant; their Shelter and Shield is the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

• Namm is not Gurmantra

• Namm is the sound of God’s Voice.

• It can be called Shabad, Shabad Guru, Shage Dune, Nadd, Anhad Bani, Anahad Bani, Sacha Shabad, Panj Shabad, Thure, Har Ke Khata, Amar Khata, Sage Khata, Gur Ka Shabad

• Namm can come in the form of Amrith as well.

• Gurmantra is a tool to help bring all our thoughts down to one thought and ultimately to zero so we can enter Sunn a place free of Maya.

• Maya comes in two forms physical and subtle.

• Anything made of 5 element or thoughts.

king, the hero of cosmic battles.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਨਿਭਉ ਗੁਿਮੁਰਖ ਨਾਰਮ ॥ The mind of the

Gurmukh becomes fearless through the

Naam.

ਮਾਿੇ ਪੰਚ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਵਰਸ ਕੀਏ ॥ Overpowering and

subduing the five passions,

ਹਉਮੈ ਗਿਾਰਸ ਇਕਤੁ ਥਾਇ ਕੀਏ ॥੬॥ holding ego in

its grip, it confines them to one place. ||6||

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਿਾਗੀ ਨਾਰੀ ਬੇਰਰ ॥ He is not won over by music, songs or the Vedas.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁਿਤੀ ਰਗਆਨੀ ਜੋਰਗ ॥ He is not won over by intuitive wisdom, meditationor Yoga.ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੋਗੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਿੋਰਜ ॥ He is not won over by feeling sad and depressed forever.ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਿੂਪੀ ਮਾਲੀ ਿੰਰਗ ॥ He is not won over by beauty, wealth and pleasures.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਤੀਿਰਥ ਭਰਵਐ ਨੰਰਗ ॥ He is not won over by wandering naked at sacred shrines.ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਾਤੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਪੁੰ ਰਨ ॥ He is not won over by giving donations in charity.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਰਠਆ ਸੁੰ ਰਨ ॥ He is not won over by living alone in the wilderness.ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਭੇਰਿ ਮਿਰਹ ਰਭਰਿ ਸੂਿ ॥ He is not won over by fighting and dying as a warrior in battle.ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੋਵਰਹ ਧੂਿ ॥ He is not won over by becoming the dust of the masses.ਲੇਖਾ ਰਲਖੀਐ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ The account is written of the loves of the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥ O Nanak, the Lord is won over only by His Name. ||2||
