Learning for sustainability is… having a passion for learning and sharing our knowledge about the environment with

others.

• At drury school we see this in action as older kids pass on knowledge to younger children about looking after our worm farms, planting and through buddy class catch ups.

• Our milk at school teaches us to recycle and how this could help Thailand and Malaysia by making them into school stationery, wall cladding or roof tiles.

• We, Drury School are a helpful community who helps other poor countries, so we can earn them a better life. We do this participating in the 40hr Famine and our fundraising BBQ for Nepal.

Maori perspectives

Maori perspectives… is when we honour Maori traditions and beliefs through our actions and

learning.• At Drury school we show this through our Kapa Hakka group which kids

choose to attend and show their learning. • Last year the junior school’s performance show case explored Maori

customs and traditions through their play about how Maui discovered fire.• This year classes celebrated Matariki in their own ways. Some classes had

shared lunches, worked on projects with their buddy classes, created art pieces and read traditional myths and legends.

Sustainable Communities is when we act in ways that help ourselves, others

and nature, now and in the future.

• Our worm farm is a sustainable practice at out school. We can take the skills learnt and use them in the future.

• Milk for schools – this keeps us healthy and it helps other countries when we recycle the cartons.

• Wai care – We are caring for a local stream by planting and removing rubbish from the area.

Respect for the diversity of people and their cultures means to respect

everybody's beliefs and traditions.

• We acknowledge the unique gifts of everyone's personalities.

• Art work around our school • Groups such as Kapa Haka and Indian Dancing.

Empowered Students participate in a meaningful way to share knowledge and take action to make changes.

• Working with our buddy classes, students become the teachers.

• We learn along side our teachers – Movie making.

• Older students teaching new worm farmers how to take care of our worms and collect worm tea.
