Early Years Learning Centre The Early Years have had a jam-packed few weeks with all of the education weeks’ events. Last week was Book week and each class attended a session in the library to be read the text 'My Dog Bigsy'. After reading the story students made a craft item from the text and created an EY mural in the library. Some staff and students also brought photos of their own dog, cat or other pet to talk about and share with their classmates. These photos were enlarged and placed around our mural and it looks fantastic! Thank you to PLT 1 and Fiona, Bree, Clare and Danni for supporting staff and students during the students. This week is Literacy and Numeracy week and classes will be exploring the text “Elmer the Elephant” and creating their own classroom elephant in their classes designing colours, patterns and shapes. Students will bring their elephants to the hall on Friday where the story will be read and students will have a chance to parade their classroom elephant and dance to the elephant walk song. Parents and Carers we would love if you would come along and join in our literacy and numeracy celebration on Friday morning at 9.30 in the hall. Next week is planning week and PLTs will be getting together to plan our inquiry topic for term 4. The Early Years topic for next term is STEAM and I am looking forward to hearing all about the great activities teams will be planning for the students. Classrooms are nearly at the end of our Geography inquiry which has been a great success. Some classes have learned about the beach, bush and snow whilst others have been exploring the places around them and making classroom texts about their experiences. Early Years is looking forward to the “Evaluate” stage of the inquiry in weeks 9 and 10. Have a great literacy and numeracy week everyone! Welcome to week 8 - Literacy and Numeracy Week. Well done everyone for participating in Book Week last week, the students and teachers had some wonderful costumes! Multimedia have been creating various artistic pieces for both Maths

and English this term. In week 8 we are venturing into new artistic terrane as we attempt to sculpture abstract people and animals out of wire. Our inspiration comes from the artist Alexander Calder and we will be exploring students creative ideas generated from the text Sandy's Circus.

Don't forget there is a book stall being held by the Later Years students, you may find a a little gem for your class library! “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss. MM PLT meeting Wednesday at 11.30 :) Kim Levett

Middle Years Team Leader The Middle Years students have been keeping extremely busy the last couple of weeks with camps, Science Week, Book Week and now Literacy & Numeracy Week. All of the Middle Years camps have been very successful. Students had the opportunity to venture out to Marysville and Campaspe Downs (Kyneton) in the past fortnight to enjoy the full camp experience. Students had the opportunity to use high ropes, swings, bikes and make bushcraft. The enthusiasm and participation levels were extremely high and students demonstrated a good degree of independence. Last week students celebrated Book Week with a visit to the new Wyndham Library at Pacific Werribee. All the students enjoyed immersing themselves in a wide range of books. The teachers and support staff read stories to students and gave them the opportunity to read their own books. The theme of Book Week focused on Australian stories and authors. In PLT 1 it was great to see parents visiting classrooms with a focus on food from Australian stories such Possum Magic, Wombat Stew and Fred the Croc. PLT 2 read the story of ‘Olga the Brolga’. PLT 3 focused on Australian authors such as Pamela Allen, Aaron Blabey and Paul Jennings. Students celebrated the creativity of authors through art and cooking. This week students from PLT 3 have been creating and producing their own items to sell during Literacy and Numeracy week. They have made advertising posters and invited parents to a Market Stall afternoon at school. Students have sold their products and practiced their money counting skills in real life ways! PLT 2 has focused on the book, 'Actual Size' by Steve Jenkins. Students have measured themselves against the size of different animals from this story and explored concepts and comparisons of size, providing opportunities for hands on learning in both Literacy and Numeracy. PLT 1 has focused on the stories of Pete the Cat and Thelma the Unicorn. Students have taken what they learned from the books to create 3D and 2D shapes in Numeracy. Overall, students have had a highly engaging time celebrating all things Numeracy and Literacy! Alison Balchan, Middle Years Team Leader

Groups 10,11, 18 & 19 Well isn’t Term 3 flying by at lightning speed!? We have just been so busy learning and having fun in MYPLT1 this term! On top of our fantastic excursions to Scienceworks to celebrate science week and the RDA to help us celebrate Literacy and Numeracy week we’ve also had a great time going to the shops and having a

picnic to enjoy Book Week. In all of our spare time (when we’ve had some!) we have been enjoying learning about shapes and ordinal numbers in Maths. The Olympics have been a big hit and a few gold medals have been floating around, MYPLT1 is just too skilled! As well as continuing to learn about who, what, when and where by reading some books about a very, cranky bear. Well we have to go now and prepare all of the awesome stuff we have planned before we leave for holidays in two weeks! Golly!

Daniel, Erin, Tim, Chloe, Kay, Alana, Tayla, Marg, Amy & Dean.

Groups 22, 23, 24 & 25 The Middle Years PLT-3 (Groups-22, 23, 24 and 25) has been very busy over the last two weeks. Our students came back from their Marysville Camp. They had a such an exciting and independent learning experience and outing. While at school all the students were busy with 'Book Week' and 'Literacy and Numeracy Week'. We also had an excursion to Wyndham Library. Some of the students visited this library for the first time and loved the collection and the

visit. It is a beautiful place and they had books of interest for all. We will highly recommend the visit to library with your child. Students are very enthusiastic about their upcoming Literacy and Numeracy Market Stalls on Friday. They are busy preparing posters, small artefacts and games for the visitors. Students are excited about the 'Pie Night' on Thursday. They are excited and getting ready to spend some

quality time and fun activities with their fathers. Please do come and enjoy time with your kids and be there for them. Benita, Katie, Anthony, Belinda, Brian, Kylie, Sharon & Ritu

Later Years Warringa Campus Over the last few weeks the Later Years students have participated in a range of experiences to participate in Science Week, Book Week and Literacy and Numeracy week. During Science week, the students collaboratively created a robot or machine to enter into the school science fair. The students worked throughout the week using problem solving skills and team work to finish the projects. Congratulations to Groups 33 and 36 who won their time slot with their Cars and ‘Prolo-bot’. During Book week the students participated in an Author Study looking at the Australian author Aaron Blabey. The students read a range of his books including ‘Pig the Pug’ and ‘Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas’. The students looked at the characters, settings, the morals of the story and began at the end of the week chose their favourite book. Some students made book review videos to send to the author. For Literacy and Numeracy week the students have organised and ran a book shop. This took a lot of collaboration across the section, with a great deal of planning and organising by the students. They collected donated books, sorted them by shape, size, colour and genre. They priced the books themselves and created signs for the shop. The students have taken turns to run the shop and raise money to buy more books for our section. We are extremely proud of the amazing work they have completed over the last few weeks. We would also like to thank all the parents who were able to join us throughout these activities.

Bethany Road Campus From racing cars to building greenhouses BRC has been full of hands-on activities. Throughout Science week students made Balloon Race cars in their ICT lessons and at this weeks assembly we raced them along the deck. It was great to see students excited, working together, sharing, planning and supporting each other. Well done everyone! Last week BRC celebrated book week with short story challenges for the Year 8 and 9 students and Year 10 were

kept busy preparing and creating a Café 11 recipe book that will be published for students to receive at their formal later in the year. This week is Literacy and Numeracy week! The Year 8 and 9 students will present fact files about different sports in preparation for the BRC Athletic Carnival while the Year 10 students respond to job advertisement and prepare for their interviews at the council with Nancy. It will be fantastic to see students looking and sounding so swish. It makes me look forward to the formal.

The Garden crew have been busy building a greenhouse with Mel and Stefan. Students who look after the garden were able to pick produce and take home to share with their families. It is wonderful to see students so engaged and responsible for their campus. Year 8 and 9 Fitness girls will be attending a Hike at the You Yangs next Wednesday with Mel and Melissa. We look forward to hearing about their adventures. All the best girls! Please return any notices for either camp, formal, excursions or sports day. The sooner we have these notices the quicker we can organise.

Danielle Barclay Acting BRC Campus Leader

News From Aisling… Year 8 and 9 students are busy readers at BRC. They have been reading informational text, making inferences, making connections, asking questions and summarising. The students have read about Olympians, listened to and read song lyrics,

read fact files about animals and read a movie plot. During maths lessons students are applying their knowledge of time to record the duration of events. Students have been making and checking predictions about how many times they think they can complete an activity in 30 seconds. Students have had great fun recording how many times they can do different exercises! As part of Science Week students made Balloon Cars. They had lots of fun racing their designs at assembly on Monday. BRC students upload their learning to Seesaw on a regular basis. Seesaw is a very powerful learning tool and we are delighted to see parents, students and teachers leaving feedback on student learning. BRC3 had 88 parent visits in one week! This is a great way to enhance communication and student outcomes

collaboratively between students, parents and teachers.

Thank you to the parents who attended the Camp information night on Tuesday. All students

going on camp should now have received all the relevant

paper work. These forms need to be returned to classroom teachers before Friday 16th

September.

Tanya’s News… This week 4 students from Cayleys Road collected rubbish from the Glen Ordan wetlands. As part of our Advance program, we have formed a partnership with the Wyndham Council. Students will be collecting rubbish and cleaning up the area on a regular basis. We will also try and come up with ideas on how we can encourage others not to litter the area. The students who attended this first session were Lachlan, Brock, Brandon and Jesse. Tanya

VCAL News… It has been a busy couple of weeks in VCAL. Students have been preparing for their Real Industry job interviews, facilitated by the City of Wyndham. These interviews replicate the selection process students will encounter post school. Students were required to select a position from a list, and complete the application process. The interviews took place on Wed 31/8. Well done to all students. It is never easy to prepare for, and sit a job interview. Some students have been participating in a first aid course. CPR, anaphylaxis, splinting and bandaging are areas that were included in the training. On Friday, a group of students attended a very informative careers expo at the Melbourne Convention Centre. They collected information and looked at displays in order to help them form a broader view of post school options. A small group of students in the Social Enterprise group addressed School Council to ask for support for our Timor Leste coffee project. They made and presented a video about the disadvantage and poverty in Timor Leste and how we as a school community could help. The school council were very impressed, and have agreed to help us.
