Malaga.A great place to learn Spanish.Thousands of people from around the world choose Malaga as the place to come and study and perfect their Spanish. This is because Malaga has a very wide selection of private schools which, for decades, have provided one of the largest selections of Spanish teaching resources in the entire country. In addition to this, in 1947 Malaga University pioneered the teaching of Spanish courses to foreigners. But also, Malaga offers many other incentives.

How to live MalagaThe first thing that attracts visitors to Malaga is its exceptional climate, with over 320 sunny days a year, and the beauty of its beaches, spread over 14 km of coastline. But this city is so much more than that. Malaga is the taste thanks to its varied selection of delicious dishes prepared with the best natural products that sit perfectly with the Mediterranean diet that is so famous for its healthy properties. Malaga is the scent of orange blossom in the spring and jasmine and night-blooming jasmine in the summer, that make you dizzy with delight as you walk through its gardens and parks that are dotted around different parts of the city. Malaga is music during its August Fair, when the streets are adorned with colourful paper lanterns and filled with its “verdiales” songs and the happiness of its people. Malaga is the image you see as you stroll along its countless narrow streets inside its historic quarter, full of balconies adorned with geraniums, sure to impress any passers-by. But, what is Malaga for you? Come and find out.

From the sea to the mountain.Malaga has an extraordinary natural heritage and environmental diversity, allowing you to try a different kind of tourism: the Montes de Malaga Natural Park, the “La Concepción” Historical and Botanical Garden, the Park or “Las Contadoras” Nature Classroom are some examples.

Nature education and interpretation activities can be combined with other recreational activities.

Outdoor Sports.Additionally, Malaga’s favourable weather conditions and its lush natural environment make it possible to take part in all kinds of sports. From the sea (sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, swimming, scuba diving, angling and canoeing) to the mountain (horse riding, hiking, potholing and climbing) to in the city (cycling, tennis, padel tennis, athletics, archery and golf ), being able to enjoy the weather in the outdoors is a real treat.

Malaga. City of art and culture.Over 3000 years of history, Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs have left behind their cultural and monumental legacy in the city, giving it its great character and the beautiful monuments it enjoys today.

This rich mix of cultures is apparent when, from a single point, you can see La Alcazaba, a palace-fortress from the Muslim period, at the foot of Mount Gibralfaro, which is the location of the Moorish defensive Castle that was attached to it, next to the Roman Theatre and opposite to the Customs building from the Renaissance period.

A few metres from there, is the cathedral “Catedral de la Encarnación”. This is one of the finest examples of Spanish religious art around today.

The birthplace of Picasso and other great painters, Malaga is now known as the “City of Museums”, with over 40 of them, including such important legacies as the Picasso Museum, Carmen Thyssen Malaga, the Centre Pompidou Malaga, the Centre for Contempo-rary Art, the Centre Collection of the Russian Museum St Peters-burg/Malaga, Museum of Malaga, the Automobile Museum, the Museum of Wine and the Museum of Glass and Crystal.

University of Málaga (UMA)The University of Málaga is a public institution devoted to higher education and scientific research. It serves almost 40,000 students and maintains partnerships with 150 firms. The UMA is a young university and is closely integrated into the academic and economic environment of the region. Its hallmarks are high-quality teaching, cutting-edge research and knowledge transfer. As proof of this, it shares – together with the University of Seville – the International Campus of Excellence Andalucía Tech.

International Centre for Spanish (CIE-UMA)

The International Centre for Spanish at UMA has been teaching Spanish to international students for over 70 years. From its location close to the sea and just 20 minutes from the centre, it welcomes over 2,000 students from every continent each year. Together with Spanish language classes, students can take courses taught in Spanish or English.

CIE-UMA programmes adapt to all levels and needs, enabling students to acquire and master Spanish or the subject they choose. It also provides accommodation services and activities to complement the education in Spanish.

ECTS credits

Qualifications obtained at the CIE-UMA are granted according to the ECTS credit system (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System). This system is used by European universities in almost fifty countries to validate courses, as within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), students’ work is quantified in the same manner, regardless of what country they study in. These certifications also follow the six-level structure for languages from the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
