Whoppers or Adventures?
“But you are the same, and your
years will have no end.”
(Psalm 102:27)
My grandfather loved to tell stories,
and I loved to listen. Grandpa had two
kinds of tales. “Whoppers” were stories
with a whiff of truth, but which changed
with each new telling. “Adventures” were stories that really
happened, and the facts never changed when retold. One
day my grandfather told a story that just seemed too far-
fetched to be true. “Whopper,” I declared, but my grandfa-
ther insisted that it was true. Although his telling never var-
ied, I simply could not believe it, it was that unusual.
Then one day, while I was listening to a Milwaukee
radio station, I heard the announcer tell a story that con-
firmed the truth of my Grandfather’s tale. My grandfather’s
“whopper” became an “adventure.” It was a moving moment
of remembrance that made him even more trustworthy in
my eyes.
When the psalmist wrote about the unchanging na-
ture of God (Psalm 102:27), he was offering this same com-
fort – the trustworthiness of God – to us. The idea is repeat-
ed in Hebrews 13:8 with these words, “Jesus Christ is the
same yesterday, today, and forever.” This can lift our hearts
above our daily trials to remind us that an unchanging, trust-
worthy God rules over even the chaos of a changing world.
Our God is God – he does not change;
His truth, his love remain each day the same.
He’s faithful to his matchless name;
For God is God – he does not change.
See you in worship this weekend as we worship our
unchanging God. God bless you!

“So Christ made us free.
Now, make sure that you stay free
and don’t get all tied up again in the
chains of slavery to Jewish laws and
ceremonies…” Galatians 5:1
Have you ever had someone
say to you, “I can’t talk to you right
now. I’m all tied up”? What do they mean? They’re
simply saying that they are involved in other things
and you cannot be important to them until those
things are taken care of.
Have you ever felt that life has you all tied up?
You can hardly move because of the knots of prob-
lems that have you tied up tight.
Christian freedom is leaving the knots behind
you and operating in the open space God has given
you. Some of us allow others to tie us up. A few of
us tie ourselves up. Either way, we are not free.
Paul urged the new Christians at Galatia to
preserve their freedom and not fall back into old
Pastor Mose Henney

ways. They were urged to enjoy God’s grace rather
than man’s laws.
Many people in today’s world dream of free-
dom and will travel any path to obtain it. They live
in countries where freedom is a forgotten word.
They are being strangled by knots of oppression
that are being imposed by governments, militaries,
radical and extremists groups, and subsequently
many of them run toward the freedoms that you and
I take for granted. And yes, sometimes we too are
subjected to these uncomfortable mandates and
rules. That’s why we cannot forget that true free-
dom is found in Christ. When He sets you free,
you are truly free, and you will never need to look
back.
How free are you today? How many chains
are you still dragging around. Remember, the
Christian is not a chain collector! I’ll see you when
we next gather for the freedom of worship…

John and Jenn Wolf Serving the Lord in Kenya
John and Jenn Wolf serve the Lord as mission-
aries through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
(LCMS) in Kenya. As the Africa region’s project manag-
er, John provides oversight and support for projects and
grants across the region, with a particular focus on mer-
cy work. He also trains the local people and the local
church partners to develop, manage and sustain pro-
jects that support Christian growth and congregational
needs across Africa.
John was born in Farmington, Minn., and grew
up in Baldwin, Wis. His home congregation is Hope Lu-
theran Church, Aurora, Colo. He received a bachelor’s
degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Tech
University, Houghton. He also received a master’s de-
gree in space studies from the University of North Da-
kota, Grand Forks. John served 20 years in the United
States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in
2015. His professional background includes project
management and working with international partners in
Europe and Asia. His hobbies include gardening, histor-
ical re-enactments, hiking and camping.
Jenn was born and raised in Anchorage, Alas-
ka. Her home congregation is also Hope Lutheran
Church, Aurora, Colo. She received a bachelor’s de-
gree in South/Southeast Asian studies from the Univer-
sity of California, Berkeley. She also took graduate level
courses in teaching and deaf education prior to teach-
ing in Montana and California schools. Since 2001, she
has been a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling their
children and doing volunteer work. Her hobbies include
fiber arts, classical violin, international folk music and
reading. John and Jenn have five beautiful children —
Ian, Sean, Thad, Annalise and Angus — who join them
on the mission field.
Prayers
Pray for the Wolfs as they serve in Kenya. Ask
God to give them strength and wisdom in their mission
work overseas. Pray for John as he supports the needs
of the African people. Pray also for Jenn and the chil-
dren as they build relationships with those in their com-
munity. Pray for the people in Africa that they are
brought to a saving knowledge of Christ and are assist-
ed in their vocations through the work of LCMS’ African
missionaries.

Board of Directors Report for October, 2021
At the regular meeting of the LOG Board
of Directors held October 19, 2021 the following
items were discussed and the following actions
taken:
• At the previous meeting the Board decided to revise the current LOG Board of Directors Pol-icy Manual. The Policy Manual is based on the Policy Governance model which replaced the traditional Church Council model in April 2013. Pastor Mike reported on his discus-sions with Dr. Gibson, District President in or-der to find congregations of similar size that are using the Policy Governance model. He discovered that Mountain View Lutheran Church here in Las Vegas is going through the same process. He will contact Pastor Klemm at Mountain View and invite him to compare notes with the LOG Board.
• Pastor Mike reported on progress of the Asso-ciate Pastor Call Committee. A survey was sent to members of the congregation in Octo-ber asking for input on what type of candidate to look for. So far about 50 responses have been received. A congregation meeting will be held in November to go over the tabulated results. The information gleaned from the sur-vey will be sent to the District to match up with potential candidates from the entire Synod.
• The next congregation Strategic Planning meeting will be held in January 2022 and fo-cus on the “Living” component of the “Through Christ, we Learn. Live, and Love” vision state-ment.
• The financial reports included results for the month and year-to-date ending September 30. The September month net loss was $24,625 which was $34,854 unfavorable to Budget. Year-to-date net income was $168,347 which was $124,824 favorable to Budget. The fa-vorable year-to-date variance resulted mainly from prepaid tuition in July and August which was not budgeted. Total cash at month-end September was $693,133 and free cash (available to pay bills) was $487,667. Both
cash totals were approximately $200,000 favor-able to Budget in large part because of prepaid tuition discussed above. The next regular meeting of the Board will be
held Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.
LOG Board membership is as follows:
Bonnie Karch, President
Trish Spatharos, Vice President
Laura Fischer, Secretary
Dave Fischer, Treasurer (non-voting)
Dennis Friday
Jolene Hawkes
Robert Vega
Bradon Winslow
Note: LOG members are invited to observe regu-
larly scheduled meetings. At the discretion of the
Board, members of the congregation July address
the Board if the President has received a request
with adequate notice prior to the meeting. The
President will determine the amount of time allotted
to such a presentation and will inform the congre-
gational member of that time allotment before the
meeting.
Give back by serving or helping one
of the many ministries at LOG.

tunities to start helping!

Do you use an online Bible? The You Ver-
sion Bible App is a great tool for on-the-go Bible
reference and reading and they also provide
some useful information from time to time. This
month there is a message about prayer. Talking
to God doesn’t always feel easy, but if we want to
know God more, then we need to know how to
talk humbly and honestly with Him.
Here is the first of three things that may
encourage you as you draw near to God through
prayer.
1. Keep it simple.
God isn’t concerned about how eloquent your
words sound—He just wants to spend time with
you. Some of the best conversations with God
happen when you simply share what’s on your
mind and then give Him the space to respond.
Try asking:
God, what should I do about … ?
God, what do You think about … ?
God, would You … ?
God, why did this … ?
And through Christ we: LEARN Connecting with Jesus through small group Bible studies and other small group activities LIVE Being like Jesus in our daily lives LOVE Serving other people and sharing with others.
The second guide to meaningful prayer
will be revealed next month.
Please remember that the live streaming of the
8:00am Sunday service continues on the church
Facebook page (Lamb of God Lutheran Church
& School, Las Vegas or Facebook.com/
lambofgodlv) or check the live stream video on
the website, which is downloaded each Monday
(www.lambofgodlv.com). Spread the word
among all your friends far and wide. It is availa-
ble to all.
In Christ we who are many form one body and each member belongs to all the others.
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is proph-
esying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is
teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then
give generously; if it is to lead do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
(Romans 12:5-8)
We currently have a teaching position open in 3rd grade. Mrs. Amezaga has agreed to fill the position as the long-term substitute as we look to move forward with finding a permanent replace-ment. Please send any inquiries or interested indi-viduals to the school office.
As we move forward in this school year, we continue to focus on our theme verse, Proverbs 3:5-6, and Trust God with all our heart.
In Christ,
Derek Blessing

October brought us more reminders that God is in control and that we are to trust in Him in all circumstances. This past month we had numerous events at the elementary school, includ-ing Bike-a-thon (pictured). The students have had a fantastic time at these events, and we are truly blest to be able to host these events for our students once again.
November marks the end of the first trimester for our
school. We are almost 1/3 of the way through the school year! November also brings other events and activities for our students. Kindergarten and 1st grade sing in Church on November 7th. Our winter athletics, Boys and Girls Basketball, start soon and will contin-ue until February. For a full list of dates and events, see the list below.
On November 21, our teachers and admin-istration will be heading to Palm Desert, CA for the annual Lutheran Educators Conference. This is a wonderful event for our teachers and for all educators in the Pacific Southwest District.

Every morning in our
classrooms the children sing the
following song:
“Good Morning Lord!”
Good morning, Lord!
It’s a beautiful day!
Good morning, Lord!
I’m going your way!
Open my eyes and help me see,
someone who needs a friend
like me!
I know that I can surely be loving,
caring, always sharing.
Good morning Lord! It’s a beautiful day!
In this song we are teaching the children
to acknowledge God every day and to help us be
a friend by being loving, caring and sharing to-
wards one another. This song goes along with
our school’s theme Bible Verse Proverbs 3:5-6.
We are teaching the children that there
are many different ways to show how we can
love, care and share. This last month we showed
how much we care for and love others by holding
a Bike-A-Thon for St. Jude Children’s Hospital
and collecting our Chapel Offering for Vegas
Strong Resiliency Center.
In class, the children also learn that by
working side by side with
one another they are learn-
ing to be loving, caring and
always sharing as well. We
are learning to become re-
sponsible for our actions to-
wards each other, as we ask
God to open our eyes and
help us see how we treat
others.
It is only by welcom-
ing God into our day that we
can truly acknowledge Him.

The Board last met on October 18, 2021, in the Teachers’ Lounge. Our next meet-ing is scheduled for December 20, 2021. En-rollment for this school year is at 1994 as of October 12, 2021. The meeting started out with a dinner for the new teachers/staff hired this year – it’s always nice to meet the new faces of the school. Dianne Darvey has re-placed Stephanie Cannitto as Human Re-sources Director. Dr. Buuck signed a new con-tract that will take him to 2026. His goal is to retire that year. Demographics have been compiled for the school – largest class is 9th grade with 341 students, 62 different zip codes attend FLHS, 52% of students have no church, 14% are LCMS affiliated, 146 different affiliat-ed churches, and 39 students are from Lamb of God.

LWML District President, Nila Rodriguez and our
District Counsellors, Pastors Ramon Contreras,
Tim Jenks’ participation promoted a joyful atmos-
phere for all attending ladies of all ages. One of
the things that made this Retreat so special was
that we were finally able to assemble in person as
we had to reschedule it from its original March
date. Thanks be to God.
So, as we go forward in 2021, we have
been blessed with another sewing session for our
mission outreach. We pray that our LWML will
grow and continue to be an integral part of mis-
sionary service as we look to the Zone’s Fall Cel-
ebration theme of HOPE. “Let us hold unswerv-
ingly to the hope we profess for he who promised
is faithful” (Heb.10:23, NIV). By the time you re-
ceive this writing, this event will have been held,
Also, on the same evening of Saturday, October
23, the Local LWML will have provided snacks for
the “Trunk ‘n’ Treat” Harvest Festival. A very busy
day!
Below are the overall Lutheran Women’s Mission-
ary League events coming soon:
• Crafts Fair and Bake Sale, Saturday, Novem-
ber 6 “Craftabulous Christmas”
• LWML Christmas Potluck, December date,
time and place, TBD
• Prayer and Praise Service, Lamb of God,
Lake Havasu, AZ, Feb. 26, 2022
Again, Lamb of God, we give thanks for
your ongoing generous support of Mites for Mis-
sion Grants on our Purple Pail Sundays as we
“serve the Lord with gladness”.
Blessings to all for a happy Thanksgiving!

GIVING THANKS:
It’s a wonderful idea that the
National LWML has institut-
ed, in zeroing in on certain
Mission Grants for special
giving emphasis in a particu-
lar month; our own Zone’s
Nancy Heredia recently sent
us a mite-giving calendar
idea for our adoption if we
choose to use it. These ideas
help all of us to be more at-
tentive to our mites for Mission Grants. On the Lo-
cal front, we showcase a special Mission Project
on the third Sunday of the month (Purple Pail Sun-
day) to encourage our mite-giving within our own
congregation. These ideas of giving reminders
allow us all to be mindful of and a part of the giv-
ing process and our Lutheran Women’s Mission
League truly gives thanks to all contributors.
The month of November tends to bring to
mind so many thoughts of stewardship, not just
because we celebrate our National Holiday of
Thanksgiving, but we are also reminded of the
service of giving to help others who are in need.
This year seems to be moving very fast as on the
heels of Thanksgiving we are looking at the end of
the Church Year and into the season of Advent.
Before moving ahead, the month of Octo-
ber was ushered in by our Pacific Southwest Dis-
trict LWML Retreat held here in Las Vegas and we
were so blessed to be able to gather at the Hamp-
ton Inn and to greet and meet each other in per-
son. Our Guest Speaker, Karol Selle presented
her own missionary message to us through our
theme from Isaiah 6:8c (NIV), “Here Am I, Send
Me!” We also received in our packets the wonder-
ful gift of her book “A Missionary? Me?” Our Chair-
man, Bonnie Karch along with our music-makers
Erik and Sandi Ohman of our congregation truly
were assets to this wonderful and blessed event.

In the Word Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from
the belly of the fish, saying, “I called out to the Lord, out of my distress, and he answered me
…” (Jonah 2:1–2a).
Of the Word It’s never a good thing when your run ends in the belly of a big fish. How, you may be won-dering, would that ever happen? Just ask Jo-
nah (see Jonah 1:15–17). Unfortunately, unlike other runners you read about in Scripture, Jo-nah decided to run away from God. Jonah did
not want to preach repentance and extend God’s mercy to Nineveh. So, he ran away —
and ended up in the big fish. Fortunately, there is no place to run that is out of God’s reach. God dealt with Jonah in the big
fish’s belly, and God will meet you wherever you are as well. Let Jonah remind you there is
no place you can run to be away from God. And also be reminded that there is no end to
God’s loving patience, mercy, and forgiveness as He deals with His precious people.
Walking with my Lord
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your patience, mercy, and forgiveness. Help me to seek You
and Your will instead of running away from You to do my own will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Unlikely siblings become a co-hesive family which included Keira, a 12-year old girl, Callie, a 26-year old young lady and Malcomb, their 34-year old brother. Grandfather Alberto Carlesso (now a business tycoon of Italian foods Alberto Alfresco in Seat-tle Washington) was the father of only one son, Jerry who sired the three
aforementioned children at various times in his life, but never was the father they all needed. Malcomb’s mother was the only woman Jerry married, yet Mal-comb was never a part of his father’s life due to his father’s lack of interest.
Two years after Jerry’s death, Grandfather Alberto finally decided to go through his son’s papers and found out there were two other children, Keira and Callie by other women. So, at the ripe old age of 82, Grandfather Alberto decided it was time to bring the family together and under his roof. Until then, Malcomb was the only one he knew and had the op-portunity to love.
As the story unfolds, we meet Callie, a re-formed felon and Keira who had been tossed around through the system after her mother died. Like Keira, Callie’s mother who had loved her dearly, had also passed away. What seemed impossible, ended up being a very heart-warming account of the unlikely relationships, with side stories weaved in to make it quite a thriller.
Readers, you will be taken in by the twists and turns of this family drama, unable to put it down.
