Welcome to our 9th session on Salaah – Lesson 9

Alhamdulillaah, we have completed the Shuroot, the Arkaan and the Waajibaat of the salaah.

We are going to begin studying the Sunan (recommended acts) related to the salaah.

We are still going to divide our studies into two section:

1. In pursuit of khushoo` (spiritual dimension)

2. The physical dimension of salaah

We will strive to highlight the vast amount of rewards and bounties related to the salaah so that we can come to the salaah with a different attitude inshaa’ Allaah.

• How we should pray



In Pursuit of Khushoo`

• The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said,

ص�لAي# ي أ �ـ #م#ون �ت �ي أ �م�ا ر� mوا ك ص�ل

“Pray as you have seen me praying.”

• We may not have the ability to check the daleel (evidences) ourselves and so we follow a scholar in their explanation of how to pray.

• We need to ensure that our intention whilst praying, is to follow the sunnah of the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص regarding the way that he prayed.

• There may be some different opinions regarding the actions of the salaah so do not reprimand others for following a different opinion based on the opinion of another scholar.

The Physical Salaah• Duàa Al-Istiftaah ( االستفتاح (دعاء

The duàa al-istiftaah is what is said after the opening takbeer, to begin the salaah. There are several of them. We will do one today.

Please be conscious since, you are addressing Allaah directly in this duàa.

Your Name, and Most High/Lofty is Your Greatness and none has the right to be worshipped other than You.

The Physical Salaah• The Final Tashahhud Du`aa (1)

These du`aa are all from the sunan. Without them the salaah is still complete.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص advised us to see protection from 4 things in the final tashahhud.

� O Allaah, I take refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from theالد�ج�الtorment of Jahannam (the Fire), from the trials and tribulations of life and death and from the evil affliction of Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajjaal.

يح# الد�ج�ال# ��م�س Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajjaal (The False Messiah) - ال

He is a human being and not the T.V. and other things as some people claim.

He is from among the major signs of the Hour and the greatest trials to befall mankind, which every prophet has warned about.

Most of mankind will follow him (even Muslims). He will appear from Asbahan, Iran…

He will be given special powers and will make the truth seem false and vice versa.

From his features is that he will be blind in his right eye which is a definite proof that contradicts his claim to be Allaah as it is a sign of imperfection.

The word ‘ka-fa-ra’ (كفر) will be written between his eyes which every believer, literate or illiterate will recognize.

The Physical Salaah• The Final Tashahhud Duàa (2)

One of the best places to make duàa in the final tashahhud.

Another duàa said in tashahhud is:

ي Aـ �ن م� إ sهـ# م�ت#الل ـ� E، و�ال� ظ�ل �ثـيرا E ك �مـا ـي ظ#ل ��ف�س وب� ن ـ# ف�ر# الذmن �غـ� ي، �ت� �ن �ال� أ إ

ف�ر ةE ل�ي ف�اغـ� ف�ر� د�ك� م�غـ� ـ� ن ��ي م�ن� ع ح�م�ـن �ت� و�ار� �ن �ك� أ �ن ف#ور#، إ �غـ� الح�ـيم الر�

O Allaah, indeed I have oppressed my soul excessively and none can forgive sins except You, so forgive me a forgiveness from Yourself and have mercy upon me. Surely, You are The Most-Forgiving, The Most-Merciful.’ From Yourself: i.e. from Your innermost grace without me deserving it and a forgiveness which is befitting to your tremendous generosity.

8. Reciting of a soorah after Al-Faatihah in the first two Raka`ah, or what is easy (to read) from the Quraan.9. Reading aloud in the solaah for which loud reading is recommended – many narrations indicate that loud recitation was done in Fajr, Al-`Eshaa and Al-Maghrib.

10. Silent recital for the silent solaah (the sahabas used to know the recitation of the Prophet `alaiy his salaam by the movement of his beard.11. A slight pause after the complete recitation (before going to rukoo`)12. Placing the hands with the fingers spaced out upon the knees as if one is grabbing it.
