NOTES FROM THE CHAIRMAN 2018Hello and welcome to the NECLTL 2018 tennis season, I hopeit is both enjoyable and successful for you and your club.There are several exciting changes for this season, designedto improve flexibility on match duration, start times, fairnessand also new rewards for all league team winners. SpecificallyI would like to draw your attention to the following:New Ladies short set match rules come into play. The defaultbecomes a 12 set match. Short set rules now include playingall opposing pairs. Please take a moment to familiariseyourselves with the new rules on pages 8 to 11.For the Men's Division, playing to time is still the default,however if both captains agree you can elect to play a 12 setmatch, this will also include each pair playing all opposingpairs. Details on page 13, Appendix F.I am very pleased to share with you the news of a newpartnership between New Balance sportswear and NECLTL.NB are a leading global sports apparel company and havevery generously put forward a team prize for each Men's andLadies Team Division Winners. That's all 21 teams! You willread more about NB later in the handbook, including leagueteam prizes and special discounts on their sportswear. Wehope this is the beginning of a long and successful partnershipwith NB.I'm also pleased to share with you the news that Slazengerwill be the official tennis ball sponsor for the next 2 years toNECLTL. Slazenger Wimbledon Hi Vis Balls must be used inall NEC league matches. He joined the LeagueCommittee at the 1975 AGM and became Treasureruntil the 2001 AGM at which he was voted Presidentof the League. He has served on the DisputesSub-Committee since its inception in 2002.

LEAGUE RULES1 North East Cheshire Lawn Tennis League.1.1 The League shall be called “The Slazenger North East Cheshire

Lawn Tennis League” for the period of the sponsorship.2 Annual General Meeting2.1 The Annual General Meeting shall be held on the last Wednesday

of November in each year.2.2 The Annual General Meeting shall elect the President and the

Executive Committee.2.3 The League Secretary shall give 14 days notice to all Clubs.2.4 Each Club shall send at least one authorised representative.2.5 Each Club shall be entitled to one vote only.2.6.1 Any Club which is not represented at the Annual General Meeting

will be fined £502.6.2 Any fine is to be paid before the following Annual Fixture Meeting.3 Extraordinary General Meeting3.1 The League Secretary shall summon an Extraordinary General

Meeting upon the written request of seven or more Clubs.4 Management of League4.1 The League shall be managed by an Executive Committee.4.2 The Executive Committee shall consist of:4.2.1 Chairman, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary

Mens Match Secretary, Honorary Ladies Match Secretary, andHonorary Tournament Secretary as ex-officio members.

4.2.2 Seven other members.4.3 All members of the Executive Committee and the President shall

be elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.4.4 All members of the Executive Committee and the President shall retire

at each Annual General Meeting but shall be eligible for re-election.4.5 Nominations for election, other than by re-election from the floor

of the Meeting, should be received in writing by the LeagueSecretary on or before 15th October, suitably proposed andseconded by the participating clubs. Details of new nominees shallbe forwarded to all clubs at least seven days before the date ofthe Annual General Meeting.

4.6 The quorum for an Executive Committee meeting shall be six.4.7 Any member of the Executive failing to attend three consecutive

meetings shall be considered to have vacated their seat and theExecutive Committee shall be empowered to fill any such vacancy.

4.8 The Treasurer shall submit to the Annual General Meeting theaccounts for approval of the League, duly audited by a person whois not a member of the committee.

4.9.1 Any Notice of Meeting will be sent to the Club Secretary or MatchSecretary as appropriate, unless the Club have notified the LeagueSecretary in writing of the name and address of another personwho is authorised to receive notices on behalf of the Club.

4.9.2 A notice will be held to have been duly sent on the next workingday after it is posted if sent by prepaid post.

4.9.3 Clubs must immediately advise the League Honorary Secretary inwriting if the name and/or address of their Club Secretary ornominated person changes.

5 Powers of Executive Committee5.1 The Executive Committee shall have the power to:5.1.1 Conduct the business of the League.5.1.2 Deal with offending Clubs or players.5.1.3 Determine the constitution of the Divisions.5.1.4 Make decisions with regard to all abandoned matches.5.1.5 Appoint a sub-committee from the members of the Executive

Committee to review all disputes.5.1.6 Give a ruling on all disputes or appeals on any matter connected

with the League.5.1.7 Use the League funds as they think advisable.5.1.8 Deal with any matter not covered by these Rules.5.1.9 Co-opt not more than 2 persons at any time.5.2 The Chairman of the Executive Committee may exercise a casting

vote at any meeting where there is equality of voting.6 League Rules6.1 No alteration or addition shall be made to these Rules except at

the Annual General Meeting.6.2 Notice of any proposed change to the rules shall be sent in writing

to the League secretary on or before the 15 October, details ofwhich shall be forwarded to all Clubs at least seven days beforethe date of the Annual General Meeting.

6.3 Any change to the rules shall not be made unless supported by atwo thirds majority of the Clubs present and voting at the AnnualGeneral Meeting.

7 Disputes7.1 All disputes shall be discussed by the Disputes sub-committee,

and if necessary shall then be presented to the ExecutiveCommittee.

7.2 If a member of either Committee is connected with a Club involvedin a dispute then that member shall not take part in any discussionor vote on the matter.

8 Payment of Subscriptions/Fines8.1 Any subscription or fine must be paid by the stated date.8.2 If any subscription or fine remains unpaid the Club will be

disqualified from the League and not allowed to re-enter until alloutstanding amounts have been paid.

8.3 If disqualification of a Club occurs in a current season, theExecutive Committee will decide whether the Club’s results for thatseason shall stand or not.

9 League Membership9.1 Any lawn tennis club is eligible for membership of the League and

may be elected to the League by the majority vote of the ExecutiveCommittee.

9.2 Applications for membership of the League or for additional teamsmust be made in writing to the League Secretary no later than thedate of the Annual General Meeting.

9.3.1 Notice of withdrawal of any Club or team from the League mustbe notified in writing to the League Secretary on or before theAnnual General Meeting.

9.3.2 Any Club failing to give such notice shall be fined £20, payable by1st May.

9.4 Any Club guilty of inducing, or attempting to induce, a bona-fidemember of another League Club to leave the Club of which theyare a member, shall be liable to a fine or expulsion from theLeague.

10 Composition of League10.1 The League shall be divided into Men’s and Ladies Divisions.10.2 The number of teams in a division shall be at the discretion of the

Executive Committee.10.3 No more than two teams from one Club may play in the same

Division, and will be subject to the conditions in Appendix A.10.4 The Executive Committee shall have the power to deal with

situations that arise as it considers appropriate (including awardingor deduction of points or sets) in order to ensure fair play.

11 Annual Subscription11.1 The annual subscription for each team shall be fixed at each

Annual General Meeting and shall be payable on or before 1st Mayin each year.

11.2 The subscription shall include the supply of a minimum of sixLeague Handbooks for each team.

11.3 Clubs whose subscriptions are not paid by 1st May shall berequired to pay double fees.

12 Fixture Meeting12.1 A League Fixture Meeting shall take place on the last Monday in

January unless varied by the Executive Committee.12.2 Each Club shall send its Match Secretary or other authorised

representative(s) to arrange the fixtures for the following season.12.3.1 Any Club which is not represented at the League Fixture Meeting

will be fined a sum equal to the subscription payable by that Clubfor the forthcoming season.

12.3.2 Any fine is to be paid by the following 30 April of that year.13 Fixture Dates13.1 Fixture dates will be arranged at the Fixture Meeting.13.2 Fixtures must be arranged for completion by 31 July of that year.13.3 Re-arranged matches shall be played as soon as possible and no

later than 14 August.13.4 Weekday matches shall start at 6.30pm. There will be no knock-

up later than 15 minutes after the start time of the match and thebreak to be no longer than 5 minutes between matches onceplayers become available from the completion of the previousround.

13.5 Weekend matches shall start at the time agreed at the FixtureMeeting.

13.6 No team shall be obliged to play matches on a Saturday or aSunday or on a Bank Holiday.

13.7 If teams are not able to agree on a date, the home team must offera total of three alternatives which must not be in the same sevenday period, and one of which must be accepted by the away team.

13.8 Ladies Matches: Clubs which do not have floodlights or are unableto use floodlights for all three courts may not agree to host homematches before the 2nd Monday in May or after 31st July.

14 Match Card14.1.1 Mens Match Result Cards: A match result card, fully and correctly

completed in all respects including block capitals and signed byboth captains, shall be emailed, posted or both, by any member ofthe home team to the Men’s League Match Secretary, to bereceived within seven days of completion of the match.

14.1.2 Ladies Match Result Cards: A photo of the match result card, fullyand correctly completed in all respects including block capitals andsigned by both captains, shall be emailed (or other media asspecified by the Ladies League Match Secretary) by any memberof the home team to the Ladies League Match Secretary to bereceived within seven days of the completion of the match.

14.2 Late and illegible cards may incur a fine.14.3 Any fine is to be paid prior to the Annual General Meeting.15 Promotion/Relegation15.1.1 Two points shall be given for each match won, and one point for a draw.15.1.2 The match result will be decided on the number of sets completed.15.2 If two or more teams finish the season with equal points, then their

position shall be decided by dividing the number of sets won by

the number of sets lost. Should these prove equal, then thedecision shall be on games on a similar basis.

15.3.1 Normally the top two teams in each division will be promoted inthe first and subsequent Divisions.

15.3.2 Normally the bottom two teams in each division will be relegatedto the next division.

15.4 The Champions of each division shall be awarded a plaque, whichshall become the Property of the club concerned. In addition, theChampions of the Men’s & Ladies Premier Division, Division 1,Division 2 and Division 3 shall be awarded a trophy, which shallremain the property of the League.

16 Courts16.1 All matches shall be played on hard/all weather courts.16.2 Matches may be played on grass or indoors if both captains agree.17 Tennis Balls17.1 Only Slazenger Wimbledon Ultra Vis balls (not pressure-less) must

be used in matches and tournaments.17.2 Clubs failing to use such a ball will be deducted 2 points and the

match awarded to the opposition.18 Tennis Equipment and General Behaviour18.1.1 All players must wear recognised tennis clothes and footwear.18.1.2 Any player infringing the rule shall not take part in the match or

tournament.18.2.1 Any mobile phone taken into the court area should be turned off.18.2.2 The court area includes the courts and the area around the courts

within the fenced area of the courts.18.2.3 Any player infringing this rule shall turn their phone off, and a

refusal or failure to do so shall disqualify that player from takingfurther part in the match or tournament, any outstanding games orsets shall be awarded to the opposition.

19 Composition of Teams19.1.1 Each League team shall consist of six players comprising three

pairs.19.1.2 In the event of a team consisting of less than six players, then the

match can proceed but the incomplete team may be deducted onepoint.

19.2 All players must be bona fide Club members.19.3 No League team player shall be allowed to play for more than one

League Club in a League match in the same season except withthe prior permission of the relevant League Match Secretary.

19.4 A list of Club team players shall be sent to the League MatchSecretary within fourteen days of a request made on the instructionof the Executive Committee.

19.5 No player shall play in more than 12 League matches in oneseason. In the case of a division playing 11 matches in a seasonthen a regular player may play 13 matches in one season.

19.6.1 In the event of a breach of this rule, the Executive Committee shalldeduct points or otherwise penalise an offending Club asconsidered appropriate.

19.6.2 If someone plays in a match under an assumed name, then thatteam will be automatically relegated for the first offence, and anyfurther offences will result in the Club being excluded from theLeague.

20 Playing Down/Playing Up20.1 Players who are recognised as first team players at the time of a

second team match shall not be selected for that second teammatch. Similarly with second team players and third team matchesand third team players and fourth team matches etc.

20.2 Players who have played a total of 5 matches for the same ordifferent higher teams in the same season will then be ineligible toplay for the lower team.

20.3 Any dispensation to “play down” will need the prior authorisationof the relevant League Match Secretary.

20.4 A player may still be regarded as a recognised member of a teameven though he/she may not have played 5 matches, as theprevious season’s appearances will be taken into account whenapplying the rule.

20.5 The ability of a player will not be taken into account when applyingthe rule.

20.6 “Returning from injury” will not be accepted as a valid reason toplay down.

20.7 In the event of a breach of this rule, the Executive Committee shalldeduct points or otherwise penalise an offending club asconsidered appropriate.

20.8 If in any doubt or in need of advice please contact the Chairmanor the relevant League Match Secretary. [See “Officials &Committee” on page 5 of this Handbook]

21 Composition of Matches21.1 Men’s Matches. (Standard Format). The order of play in all matches:

21.2 Each away team pair shall play on the same court for all threerounds unless otherwise agreed.

21.3 Each rubber shall consist of two sets.21.4.1 If a set reaches 5-5, a tie break game shall decide the set21.4.2 The tie break shall be played in accordance with Appendix B21.5 Ladies Matches. (Short Format). The order of play in all matches:

21.6 Each away pair shall play on the same court for all three roundsunless otherwise agreed.

21.7 All matches will consist of 12 sets (see also Rule 22.6)21.7.1 In the 1st. round each pair will play 1 set.21.7.2 In the 2nd. round each pair will play 1 set. 21.7.3 In the 3rd. round each pair will play 2 sets.21.8 If a set reaches 5-5, a tie-break game shall decide the set.21.9 The tie-break shall be played in accordance with Appendix B 22 Match Completion Time

Mens’s Matches:22.1.1 All weekday matches shall finish at the time stated in Appendix C.22.1.2 If the captains agree, floodlighting may be used, but the match will

still be subject to the finishing time in Appendix C.22.2 Matches arranged for a Saturday or Sunday or Bank Holiday shall

have the same duration as in Appendix C – The Time Limit Rule.22.3 Any game(s) in progress at the finish time shall be completed.22.4.1 If at the finishing time less than ten sets have been fully completed

the match shall be replayed, but if ten or more sets have beencompleted the result shall stand.

22.4.2 Uncompleted sets shall not be taken into account for deciding thematch result.Ladies Matches:

22.5.1 All matches shall finish no later than 10 pm. regardless of theagreed start time. This includes any matches arranged to be playedon a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday.

22.5.2 If the captains agree, floodlighting may be used, but the match willstill be subject to finishing at 10 pm.

22.5.3 Weekday evening matches must start at 6.30 pm. or, if bothcaptains mutually agree, 7 pm.

22.6 If adverse weather intervenes before 10 sets have been fullycompleted the match shall be replayed, (this includes whenfloodlights are automatically extinguished at 10 pm). If ten or moresets have been completed the result shall stand.

22.7 Uncompleted sets shall not be taken into account for deciding thematch result.

23 Fulfilling/Re-arranging Matches23.1 Matches shall be played on the pre-arranged date and may be

postponed only because of unfit playing conditions due to badweather.

23.2 Inability to raise a fully representative team shall not be acceptedas valid reason for the postponement of any fixture.

23.3 If the team captain or match secretaries of both Clubs are able tocommunicate with each other on the day of play and mutuallyagree that play is impossible, the match may be postponed.

23.4 If there is no agreement, both teams shall present themselves onthe ground at which the match should be played.Men’s Matches:

23.5.1 Unless a postponement has been agreed, if a team fails to bepresent by 7.30pm or 1 hour after the agreed start time, the matchshall be awarded to the non-offending team, depending on themonth when the match was scheduled to be played, will have thefollowing score awarded; April, 12 sets to 0; May, 15 sets to 0;June, 18 sets to 0; July, 15 sets to 0; August, 12 sets to 0.Ladies Matches:

23.5.2 Unless a postponement has been agreed, if a team fails to bepresent 1 hour after the agreed start time, the match shall beawarded 12 – 0 to the non-offending team.

23.6 Players must await the captain’s decision with regard to possibilityof play before leaving the ground.

23.7.1 Within seven days of the postponed match the Home Club mustcontact the Away Club to re-arrange the match.

23.7.2 Within seven days of being contacted by the Home Club, the AwayClub must agree a date for the re-arranged match.

23.7.3 The relevant parts of Rule 13 shall apply to re-arranged matches.23.8.1 If a match is not played, the offending team shall have two points

deducted from its League record. In addition, any team in the topfour divisions (including the Premier Division) may also berelegated.

23.8.2 In the event of any other breach of this rule, the ExecutiveCommittee shall deduct points or penalise an offending Club asconsidered appropriate.

24 Late Starting MatchesMen’s Matches:

24.1.1 If by 6.45 pm play has commenced in only two rubbers due to theabsence from court of one or more players, then play in the latestarting rubber shall not continue longer than completion of the gamein progress at the time when the first two rubbers are completed.

24.1.2 If by 6.45 pm only one rubber has commenced, then play in theother two late starting rubbers shall not continue longer thancompletion of the games in progress at the time when the firstrubber is completed.

24.1.3 All uncompleted sets shall either be forfeited to the non-offendingcouple(s) or shall be ignored altogether if both opposing coupleshad players absent from the court at 6.45pm.

24.2 If by 6.45 pm no rubbers have commenced, then provided a teamhas a couple or couples present on court and ready to play, thefirst set shall be awarded 6-0 to the couple(s) present.

24.3 If by 7.00 pm no rubbers have commenced, then provided a teamhas a couple or couples on court and ready to play, the first rubbersshall be awarded 6-0, 6-0 to the couple(s) present.

24.4 If the non-offending team wish to claim sets they must clearlyinform the late team of their intention to do so before the start ofthe delayed sets or match.

24.5 For weekend matches, for the purpose of assessing late starting6.45 pm and 7.00 pm shall be equivalent to 15 minutes and 30minutes after the stated start time.Ladies Matches:

24.6.1 If, by 15 minutes after the agreed start time, play has commencedin only two rubbers due to the absence from court of one or moreplayers, then play in the late starting rubber shall not continuelonger than the completion of the game in progress at the timewhen the first two rubbers are completed.

24.6.2 If, by 15 minutes after the agreed start time, only one rubber hascommenced, then play in the other two late starting rubbers shallnot continue longer than the completion of the games in progressat the time when the first rubber is completed.

25 Missing/Injured PlayersMen’s Matches:

25.1 If a team has at least four but fewer than six players present for amatch then not less than eight sets shall be played for the resultto count.

25.2 Upon the completion of the four sets played in the first round theunplayed rubber shall be awarded 6-0, 6-0 to the full team.

25.3 If the offending team still has fewer than six players, then upon thecompletion of the four sets played in the second and third roundrespectively the unplayed sets in each round shall be awarded 6-0, 6-0 to the full team.

25.4.1 In the event of a player having to withdraw from further play forany reason the opponents shall immediately be awarded thenecessary number of games to complete the set.

APPENDICESAPPENDIX A – CLUBS WITH TWO TEAMS IN THE SAME DIVISION.

1. The match between the two teams shall be arranged to be playedby 24 May.

2. Before the start of the season the Club shall give the relevantLeague Match Secretary a list of four players who will play at leastfive matches for the higher of the two teams in that Divisionand those four players shall not play for the lower team in thatseason.

3. No player who has played five matches for the higher of the twoteams shall subsequently play for the lower team.

APPENDIX B – THE TIE-BREAK RULEThe pair reaching seven points with a minimum two points lead wins thegame and the set six games to five.Serving Order in this example A & C v B & D. APPENDIX D – PREMIER LEAGUE RULESGenerally the Rules of the League apply, however, the following specialrules will operate in the Mens & Ladies Premier Divisions:-1. The Premier Division comprises of six teams.2. Teams play home & away.3. For Two-Team clubs: Before the start of the season the club shall

give the relevant League Match Secretary a list of FOUR playerswho are expected to play at least 5 matches for the first team.Those FOUR players shall not play for the second or lower teamsall season.

4. Relegation/Promotion: Normally the bottom two teams will movedown from the Premier Division and the top two teams in Division1 will move up, provided that there are not more than 2 teams fromthe same club in each Division.

5. Not more than 2 teams from the same club can be in the PremierDivision and they must play their matches against their own teamsby the end of May.

6. Trophy: A special Premier Division Trophy will be awarded to thewinner of each Division.

7. Where a match is not played then the offending team will berelegated automatically.

APPENDIX F – Amended SHORT FORMAT for the Mens Division3 Rounds (12 sets)

This sequence of play is identical for the Ladies Divisions but they play theShort Format as the default.The start date is Tuesday 3rd April 2018 for the Short Format. This isentirely voluntary and can only take place if both captains agree, otherwise,the standard rules apply. It is recommended that before the Fixture Meetingaround the end of January captains consider whether they wish to availthemselves of the later start time (see below) that is possible with thisarrangement:- 1. If the captains agree that the match will comprise of 3 rounds (12

sets) only. Once agreed the finishing time printed in the Handbookwill not apply. It will not constitute a result unless both captainssign the matchcard.

2. To play 12 sets only, the captains must agree either (i) immediatelybefore a match gets under way or (ii) prior to the date of the match,(e.g. at the Fixture Meeting). If the latter then the captains mayalso agree a later start time, up to half an hour later, e.g. normalstart 6.30 pm. may be changed to 7 pm. However, Rule 24 – LateStarting Matches will still apply from the adjusted start times.

4. If the weather intervenes and at least 10 sets have beencompleted then the result will stand provided both captains signthe matchcard. If less than 10 sets are completed then the matchwill have to be replayed on another date.

5. Playing the Short Format (12 sets) can operate at any part of thecurrent season.

6. All 7 pm. starts must be the Short Format.Clubs which do not have/use floodlights for matches may not use the ShortFormat before the second Monday in May or after 31st July. The standard format matches (18 sets) will start from Monday 16th April2018.

THE SLAZENGER BALLSlazenger balls must be used in all matches and the square boxon the match card must be ticked by the home team captain toconfirm that newly opened Slazenger balls were used for thematch. It is now not necessary to send your Club’s ball receipts tothe League.Clubs failing to use Slazenger balls will be deducted 2 points andthe match awarded to the opposition.

ACTON CUP AND PLATE RULES1. League clubs with at least one mens and one ladies teamshall automatically be entered in this competition. There is noentrance fee.2. The winning club shall hold the Acton Cup for 12 months. TheCup is the property of the League and cannot be won outright.3. The clubs knocked out in their first match shall be enteredautomatically for the Acton Plate competition. The winning clubshall hold the shield for 12 months. The shield is the property ofthe League and cannot be won outright.4. References in these rules to the Acton Cup competition shallinclude and refer also to the Acton Plate competition.5. The draw for the first round is printed in the LeagueHandbook. The first-named shall be responsible for contactingtheir opponents to inform them the date on which the match willbe played. Clubs will be notified of their next opponents andvenue on contacting the referee.6. The finals shall be played at a venue to be decided by theExecutive Committee.7. Each match shall consist of five events:- a ladies’ singles, agentlemen’s singles, a ladies’ doubles, a gentlemen’s doublesand a mixed doubles.8. No player shall play in more than one event in each round orrepresent more than one club in this competition in a season. Aplayer shall be a bona fide playing member of the club he or sherepresents and shall have played at least two League matchesfor the same League club that season.9. A match shall be won by the team which wins at least threeevents. Except in the final, each event shall be the best of threesets each of which, INCLUDING THE FINAL SET, shall bedecided on a tie-break which shall operate at six games all.10. All matches must be completed by the date given for therelevant round.11. Each match shall commence not later than 6.45 p.m. andunless otherwise agreed by both sides three events shall beplayed at that time. Before the match commences and not laterthan 6.45 p.m. the Captain of each team shall exchange lists ofplayers and events in which they shall play. The order of playshall be as agreed by the Captains, otherwise by ballot. Shoulda player nominated for any event be absent or not play whenrequired to do so, that event shall be forfeited to the other side.12. Should a match be suspended due to bad weather before ithas been won, it shall be continued on the date agreed by bothteams and from the score standing when the match wassuspended. Teams may substitute players who have notcommenced an event and, in this case, amended lists must beexchanged by 6.45 p.m., the order of play remaining aspreviously decided. If any player does not play in an unfinishedevent when required, the uncompleted games shall be awardedto the other side.13. The home team shall provide official balls as in Leaguematches – see League Rule 11 – and shall provide the playerswith light refreshments after the match.14. The captain of the WINNING team must advise the refereeof the result by telephone within 24 hours of the matches havingfinished.15. Any dispute must be referred immediately to the referee,whose decision shall be final.

ROSE BOWL MIXED DOUBLES TOURNAMENTThe entry is limited to 12 representative couples who are splitinto two groups. After the group matches are over, each pairplays their equivalent ranking opposition from the other group,in other words, 1 v 1, 2 v 2, etc. as a multi-final. The Rose BowlTrophy is contested between the top pair from each group.Prizes are awarded to the winners of each multi-final. Allexpenses are met by the League including a salad tea providedby the host club, West Heaton.It is pleasing to report that a full complement of players (12couples) took part in this event. The weather was fine till the endof the afternoon and early evening but just started to rain at theend of the prize-giving performed by our President, Mr. PeterJackson. It was decided to play just 7 games in the groupmatches, (no more, no less) as there was a chance of rain. Thismeant that the group matches finished earlier than normallyplanned which enabled us to carry out the multi-finals (with theexception of the Level 1 Final for the Rose Bowl itself) beforetea. The BlueGroup was convincingly won by Queensgatescoring 33 points, the nearest competitors being Cheadle(Kingsway) on 21 points. The Green Group was a much closeraffair with Br. Lane finishing on 31 points followed by WestHeaton A on 28 points. In the Final of Level 1 for the Rose BowlTrophy, Stuart Owens & Bev. White of Queensgate defeated Ed.Rowland & Sarah Richards 6 – 4 in a closely contested set withsome remarkable shot-making.. The winners of eachmulti-finalwere presented with their prizes, they were Level, 1 –Queensgate, Level 2 – Cheadle (Kingsway); Level 3 – AlderleyEdge, Level 4 - West Heaton B; Level 5 – Sale and finally Level6 – Lindow.
