Willa Brygidyr ‘s family had a lovely Christmas this year. Craig and I stayed two nights, Christmas Eve and Christmas night at a hotel in Canmore. Christmas Eve we visited with our family at a relative’s home in Canmore, then spent Christmas Day at our daughter's home in Exshaw. Our son was home from Houston for several days over Christmas which was a special treat for us. Our granddaughter, now 19 months old, kept us all entertained as she played with her Christmas gifts and modelled her new Christmas clothes. Elmo and a pink princess wagon were the two highlights of her day! The fun continues as on Monday, Jan 11, I travel to Playa Del Carmen for a week at a resort with my daughter and granddaughter for a girl's holiday. I find it quite amusing to be packing sand toys and swim diapers in my suitcase! And the diapers aren't even my size.... Lesley McDevitt and 3 of her friends are going to Ixtapa, Mexico in January for two weeks of sun and fun. They are looking forward to relaxing, sunning, talking, going on excursions, taking photos, drinking exotic drinks and shopping etc. Julie Kirsch spent most of her holidays in Calgary with loving family and friends. They took one day to cross-country ski in Canmore and drove to Banff where they soaked their weary muscles in the hot springs under the stars and then enjoyed a good pizza with live music to end the evening.

Alberta President: Betty Rose reported that the first Provincial Executive Board Meeting was held September 26th in Red Deer. 18 members were present, including 3 new members, Janet Jack; Chair, Early Career Educators, Julie Kirsch; Chair, Schools for Africa and Jolene Marks, Chair of the Scholarship Committee. The Doreen E. Cohen Scholarship Fund is very well funded and presently offers 2 categories for DKG Alberta members. Category #1 provides $2,000.00 per award for university training leading to a post graduate degree. Category #2 provides up to $2,000.00 per award for programs leading to a certificate. The Scholarship Committee is considering a 3rd category for the purpose of professional activities, including DKG regional and international conferences. A recommendation will be presented to the DKG Alberta Executive Board at the January 2016 meeting. DKG Alberta Survey – Betty Rose gave informational background for a survey to be completed by Alberta members. The survey was designed to draw awareness to issues of interest and relevance to Alberta members in the hope that it will spark discussion and provide feedback. Alice Halvorsen, Editor, will analyze the survey responses received. Survey results will be published in the winter issue of Zeta News. Members who attended the North West Regional Conference 2015 in Regina were reminded to submit the travel fund expense form with receipts as soon as possible. The meeting adjourned at 8:57 p.m.

Dear DKG Sisters,

If you attended the Regina NW Regional Conference last summer, you know Rosella Mitchell who chaired opening night. She, in fact, co-chaired the conference. If you have your conference booklet, her picture is on page 6 with co-chair Paulette Brooks. She had had a lot of trouble with her heart earlier in the year so was quite fragile in the summer, but managed to run things so efficiently and smoothly and graciously. Anyway, her bad health continued all fall. I received several updates from my sister Linda Paul, who was in her chapter. Linda and her husband Alec visited her in hospital last night (Jan 6/16). She was in a coma at that time and died over night.

Rosella and I met in Lincoln NB for the NW Regional Conference in 1997 when we were receiving our state president training together, she for Saskatchewan, me Alberta. (She heard my voice and thought I was Linda even before she saw my face.). We were good friends ever since and shared hotel rooms for a few Seminars on Purposeful Living. She faithfully attended every NW Regional Conference and every convention. She had wonderful ideas and was so enthusiastic about DKG. She had so much fun with her dress too, and often had nail polish to match her clothes. One time she had a zebra striped dress and had black and white zigzag nail polish to match on both fingers and toes. She loved golf and travel. She continued with educational contract work long after she “retired.” You get the picture. She was a total woman.

I feel so honoured have known her. I will miss a dear friend. Sincerely, Lorna Berlinguette
