Leadership ReflectionWhat a privilege it is to be a part of the Catholic College Wodonga community.

Over the last few months, as a Learning Community Leader, I have worked closely with students, parents and staff through what has been a very challenging time. Yet, In each and every case I have seen the absolute best in people.

When I speak with our families and staff I am amazed at how quickly they are able to turn a negative into a positive. Often they have focused on the opportunities they have in front of them and demonstrated gratitude for what they have and the support that others have offered.

There are exciting times ahead. We all look forward to seeing teachers and students back together in classrooms, and catching up with friends and family more regularly. We look forward to going back out into the community and supporting our local businesses. We also look forward to watching and participating in organised sport again.

Some years ago the MacKillop student leaders and I worked together to write a reflection for our community. I feel these words are pertinent given our current situation.

MacKillop ReflectionGod, who loves us dearly, we thank you for the life of Saint Mary MacKillop. Mary was a strong individual whose characteristics are aspirational for all. Give us courage, so that we may challenge ourselves to get out of our ‘comfort zones’ and that we may stand up to all that is in-just in the world.

May we show commitment to all that we take on in life, in the belief that positive actions lead to positive outcomes. May we show compassion to those that are less fortunate than ourselves and those who are feeling physical or emotional hurt. We ask Mary MacKillop to pray with us at this time. Amen.

Recipe: Mini carrot cakesIngredients ½ cup of vegetable oil3 eggs, beaten lightly1½ cups of self-raising flour¾ cup of caster sugar2 cups coarsely grated carrots¾ cup of drained crushed pineappleCream cheese icing:50g butter, softened½ cup of cream cheese, softened2 ½ cups icing sugar mixtureMini carrots:6 dried apricot halves1x 18cm green snake

This week in Food Technology and Hospitality the students have continued to cook up a storm.

The Café style Pathway’s classes have participated in Muffin week, with the option to create both a savoury and a sweet muffin. Students have continued to be creative and presented some very professional looking Muffins.

Students also spent their theoretical lesson working on nutrition, defining a range of nutrients and then finding examples at home in the pantry or fridge that were good sources of these nutrients.

Whilst in Hospitality and couple of enthusiastic classes were able to participate in a socially distanced practical class at school. Second year Hospitality students were very busy in their limited time preparing gnocchi with duck ragout, while the first year class prepared homemade pies, choosing from a variety of fillings such as egg and bacon, pulled pork and creamy chicken and leek. Not to forget something sweet, they each made an apple pie.

Mini carrot cake muffins

Method:Preheat oven to 180°C or 160°C for fan-forced. Grease 6-hole texas (3/4 cup/180ml) muffin pan.

Mix oil, eggs, flour, sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl with a wooden spoon until combined. Stir in carrot and pineapple

Pour mixture into prepared pan holes. Bake in moderate oven for about 35 mins. Stand cakes for 5 mins, then turn onto wire rack: turn cakes top-side up to cool.

Meanwhile, make cream cheese icing and mini carrrots.

Cream cheese icing: beat butter and cream cheese in small bowl with electric mixer until light and fluffy; gradually beat in icing sugar.

Mini carrots: Place apricots in cup, cover with boiling water; stand 10 mins.

Drain apricots, dry with absorbent paper.

Cut snake into six 3cm lengths. Place one snake piece at the top of one apricot half; roll apricot around snake, allowing snake to protrude from one end.

Food technology Year 7-8

Over the past few weeks Year 7 and 8 Food Technology stu-dents have been creating some great meals for their families in their kitchens at home.

Students have created tacos, spaghetti bolognese, mac and cheese, sausage rolls and other household favourites, as well as doing the dishes, setting the table and other tasks to help out at home.

They have also created sweet treats for their families to enjoy including truffles, cupcakes, chocolate chip biscuits and muffins. They have been working on fruit and vegetable tasks including when they are in season and how to safely store leftovers as well as ways to reduce food waste. Deeane CordyLearning Coach - Technology

Parish newsFr jun jun letter

My dear Parishioners, brothers and sisters in Christ,

The recent announcement from the Victorian Government to ease some of the restrictions is welcomed news and brings provided relief to many of us.

We can now catch up with our family and friends although still limited to 5 people with social distancing still to be observed. We can also now return to Church and attend Mass once again - starting this weekend 16/17 May.

However, as recommended, only 10 people are allowed to be in our public liturgical celebration; plus 3 or no more than 4 people who may be doing specific roles in the liturgy (eg. Lector, Musician/singer, technical assistant, door attendant).

I know many of you loved going to Mass to partake in Holy Communion and just enjoy the company of each other as a community of faith. Yet to adhere with the directives we are to put some things in place:• When you come to Mass, please observe social distancing (1.5 metres) apart. • Please use the hand sanitiser provided or if you have your own, bring this with you.• If you are feeling unwell (or coughing, sneezing, etc), stay on the side of caution by staying at home.• To facilitate the cleaning of places in the Church that we may be in contact with, we will just be using one entry

and exit point.

At Sacred Heart Church, we will be using the Main front Doors these will be opened before the Mass and closed once Mass begins.

To be fair with the parishioners we will be using a booking system.

As per the bishop’s directive when coming to Mass you need to check in. When booking, Sonni will take down your details. When you arrive at the Church your name will be checked off. This is for accountability and care for you especially when we need to contact you. Having said this, we respect your privacy as we assure you we abide with our Parish Privacy policy in handling your personal information.

For booking please contact the Parish Centre weekdays between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm
