Transcript of Leadership lessons from geese assembly

Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

• When geese fly together, each goose provides additional lift and reduces air resistance for the goose flying behind it.

• When a goose drops out of the v-formation it quickly discovers that it requires a great deal more effort and energy to fly.

• Geese rotate leadership.• Geese honk at each other.• Geese help each other.

What can we learn from this?

Skills/attributes for now and the future

• Work together harmoniously as a team, sharing common values and a common destination.

• On a good team, everyone has the opportunity to serve as a leader as well as a follower.

• Teams frequently fall apart because of the lack of adequate communication among the various members of the team. Constant communication among members is exceedingly important in moving effectively towards a common goal.

• Do more than just work together, care for the well being of each other.

*EXCELLENCE Geese strive for excellence, as do we.

*FRIENDSHIP It’s easier and more friendly to fly in a ʻVʼ partly because the ones behind fly in the ʻslip-streamʼ of those in front.

*RESPECT Taking turns to lead, the ones behind honk encouragement to the one in front.

Let’s take turns to fly the ‘slipstream’.

A thought to leave you with……..

If we bond together and support each other,

If we make true the spirit of teamwork

regardless of our differences;

we can rise to meet our challenge.

If we understand the real value of friendship,

If we are aware of the feeling of sharing

life and our future will be more fulfilling and meaningful.
