Emporia, like other communities across the

state, faces critical social, economic andtechnical realities. We need leaders whocan work together to create a shared visionso that long-term solutions for the health of

the community can be implemented. Weneed leaders who can build consensus oncomprehensive public policy to improve our

quality of life. Finally, we need leaders whocan build bridges and energize the citizensto act on critical issues that affect the well-

being of all Emporia citizens.

This is what Leadership Emporia is all

about. Established in 1988,Leadership Emporia was designed as

an educational program to nurtureand enhance the leadership skills ofindividuals from all segments of our

community who wish to becomeinvolved in shaping the areas future.

Leadership Emporia offers rareopportunities in which to interact with

community leaders and delve into

issues, concerns and activities ofEm oria.

Leadership Emporia has been working

closely with the newly formed KansasLeadership Center and through this

training have developed programs andinitiatives which teach four competenciesfor civic engagement. This kind of civicleadership is learning through powerful

experiences that provide conceptual

frameworks, skills, tools and ways of beingconsistent with a more purposeful and

collaborative leadership approach.

Tuition for Leadership Emporia is $300and may be paid by the participant or asponsoring employer or organization.Tuition must be paid in full prior to the

first session and is non-refundable. Thefee includes all program costs, mealsand refreshments associated with the

sessions. A maximum of three (3) $100scholarships will be awarded from theEmporia Area Chamber of Commerce.

Leadership Emporia Alumni Associationprovides a scholarship and the 23rd Class isalso offering financial assistance to those

who need it.

Selection Committees will attempt to award

these scholarship based on need. If youneed a scholarship, please include a letterof explanation with your application.
