2. Leadership: Does one Size Fit All Needs? :Building From a Foundation Michael Harvey is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Business Management at Washington College. His teaching and research focus on exploring leadership from an interdisciplinary perspective, especially the integration of social-science research with insights from literature and political philosophy. His most recent book is Leadership Studies: The Dialogue of Disciplines, published by Edward Elgar in 2011, which he co-edited it with Prof. Ronald F. Riggio of Claremont College. The book was recognized as one of the year's best books in leadership studies by the International Leadership Association We will discuss: What weve learned from history about leadership, and what are the shared traits among all successful leaders? Leadership in context--in what situations do we expect leadership? What is NOT leadership? Leaders must accept an eternal tension between (1) concern and empathy for people, and (2) strategic focus on the mission, the task, the group. 2. Leadership is about the future.
