• Large colour-coded touch-screen displays offering clear and easy call identification.

• Patient handset features any angle plug and socket detachment to avoid damage, ergonomic design and large backlit buttons making them easy to see and use and removable replacement cable for economical maintenance.

• Call escalation and transfer enabling automatic or manual routing of specific calls to specific locations, if unanswered or at certain times.

• Automatic call muting at certain times (e.g. at night) to avoid patient disturbance.

• Handset removals can be shown and silenced, handsets that are accidentally removed from the handset socket can be silenced but still highlighted on the nurse station, reducing disturbance and avoiding the necessity for handset dummy plugs.

• IPiN mobile allowing specified staff members to receive all or certain calls on a mobile device.

Wandsworth Healthcare works closely with NHS Trusts to ensure its technology continues to meet the current and anticipated needs of our clients. This research and development includes Trust user group workshop meetings for feedback.

We advised on and assisted in drafting specific requirement criteria for which products should conform to the Government’s latest HTM08-03 for nurse call systems. The features necessary for conforming to this HTM are incorporated into all our products.

IPiN Evolution has been developed to make reporting and administration simple and efficient across the network.

Every event that occurs on the IPiN network is logged and stored both locally and centrally. These events are displayed on the user friendly ‘Reporting Dashboard’ and ‘Admin Toolkit’ and can be accessed using password authentication from any authorised PC or device.

Maintenance and managementWandsworth Healthcare has created a number of tools and functions to ensure the effective maintenance and management of IPiN. • To improve the efficiency of IPiN statistical Data

Analysis is available along with remote access and diagnostics.

• IPiN administration tools give authorised staff site wide management access including transfer rules, sounder volumes, room names, phone extensions,

disable/enable locations, maintenance, upgrades and modifications as well as the transfer of calls and management of third party communication systems.

• To ensure IPiN continues to perform as it should faults on the network are instantly reported to a central point or a designated mobile device. First line repairs can be handled on site and service contract back up is provided in our Bronze, Silver and Gold maintenance programmes.

ReportingIPiN gathers and stores a wide range of information including call volumes, mean response times and fault calls. The versatility of the IPiN system means that this data can be analysed in any form using a variety of metrics, such as ‘per ward’ or ‘per month’. This enables a Trust to identify and rectify any specific, potential problem areas or can be used in conjunction with a wider review of a healthcare facility.

Mobile telephonyAllowing staff to communicate with each other wherever they might be within your campus has huge implications for improving the efficiency of the workforce. Through an extension of VoIP, it is possible for staff to message or talk to each other using mobile technology over your IPiN Evolution network.

Nurse presenceKnowing where staff are while they are on duty not only assists their colleagues to locate them for help, but also enables managers to more effectively co-ordinate staff activities through workflow analysis. This helps staff become more effective in patient care.

Staff attackStaff attack technologies that enable staff to raise an alarm through various means, alerting security to exactly where help is needed and recording these instances,

are able to connect to IPiN Evolution quickly and effectively. Further, IPiN Evolution allows the call for help and the notification to be fixed or mobile. It also provides the reliability to reassure staff they will always be able to call for help.

Wandering patient Knowing where patients are, in particular infants or those with mental health issues, is vital to ensuring their safety and well-being. IPiN Evolution supports wandering patient solutions using radio frequency identification to make sure a patient remains within a designated area, such as a ward or a wing.

Lighting controlIPiN Evolution is able to support a range of lighting control products and can even allow lighting levels to be monitored centrally, enabling energy efficiency savings to be made.

More services in less spaceAs the number of appliances designed for bedside use increases, so too must the functionality of trunking to accommodate them. Yet the amount of room available has stayed the same or even reduced. Fortunately, at Wandsworth Healthcare we have designed innovative trunking that can house more services in less space.

Surface or flushWe are able to offer three different widths – wide, slimline and ultra slim – for both trunking and service columns, which can be either on the surface or flush to a wall.

Good looking, yet hard wearingAll of our bedhead trunking is manufactured from the highest quality, powder coated aluminium with a hard wearing, anti-microbial, semi-gloss finish in a variety of colours. This, combined with concealed fixing screws, ensures our front panels are fully secured and have an attractive, easy to clean appearance, which is critical for infection control.

The only way is up!Vertical medical service columns are ideal for situations where there are many obstacles that are likely to make installing horizontal trunking difficult, such as pillars, windows or doors.

HOSPITAL

Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The UK’s most advanced healthcare facility, the £545 million Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham has IPiN Evolution installed throughout. Dubbed the first ‘super hospital’, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham has 1,213 beds, including a 100-bedded Critical Care Unit each of which are serviced with Wandsworth Healthcare MSCs and horizontal trunking.

Uniquely, Wandsworth Healthcare fitted the bedhead services into a wall system to provide a clean and uncluttered environment in patient areas. Each section of horizontal trunking was custom-fitted to the hospital’s specific requirements for each patient room. This was supplied to site pre-gassed, wired and fully assembled, ready to be installed in the required locations.

Our team worked to a strict area-by-area handover programme. Deadlines had to be maintained as once an area was complete it was sealed to limit any infection issues on final handover.

South Tyneside NHS Trust

Wandsworth Healthcare is rolling out IPiN Nurse Call across South Tyneside Hospital as part of an ongoing refurbishment project to provide flexibility and future-proofing. Already upgraded are A&E, Integrated Emergency Care, Special Care Baby Unit (SBCU) and its cardiac Wards 6 and 7.

Each of the 30 beds in Ward 6 has an IPiN unit, while the SBCU has six units installed on MSCs.

Wandsworth Healthcare has managed the IPiN installation process in a live hospital environment, working closely with the team at South Tyneside Hospital to minimise disruption to patients and staff.

Southmead Hospital, Bristol, completed in 2014, is one of the largest hospitals in Europe. The £430m state-of-the-art Brunel building has 800 beds, 75% of which are en-suite.

Wandsworth Healthcare worked extensively with designers DSSR, architects BDP and 10 hospital departments to design, supply and install an IPiN Nurse Call system to unify critical departments and operating rooms. Comprising more than 7,000 components, much of the system was fitted offsite into the bathroom pods and modular walls to enable rapid installation once in the hospital.

Wandsworth Healthcare is working with The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, a world-class institution for the diagnosis and treatment of brain, spine, nerve and muscle conditions, on part of a multi-million pound expansion and modernisation project.

The first phase of the project included replacing the old nurse call system with IPiN Nurse Call, which enables the Trust to centralise the monitoring and operating of systems, as well as ensuring greater care for patients, and improve staff and cost efficiencies.

As part of the second phase, Wandsworth Healthcare designed, manufactured and installed bespoke, flush-mounted, Medical Service Columns (MSC) for each of the medical suites and 31 beds in The Walton Centre’s new hospital building.Over the next five years Wandsworth Healthcare will be working with the Trust to fully refurbish and future proof the remaining areas of the existing building with IPiN.

Norfolk and Norwich NHS Trust has also opted for Wandsworth Healthcare’s innovative IPiN Mobile solution, allowing for nurse, emergency and cardiac calls, as well as admin and reporting to be viewable in real time on allocated Android mobile phones.

The IPiN Mobile system operates over the Trust’s WiFi network and is currently in use across the hospital’s Cardiology and Cardiac care units, where it has been configured to ensure staff working at varying levels only receive the calls that are applicable to them.

IPiN Mobile is also being utilised by the hospital’s chosen maintenance/service and support company, whose engineers are able to receive, view and analyse live fault diagnostic reports on their mobile devices.

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital was built as a replacement for the incumbent Norfolk and Norwich and West Norwich Hospitals as part of a £229 million PFI hospital scheme designed to provide a 953 bed, state of the art NHS academic teaching hospital.

Wandsworth Healthcare was specified to provide their fully IP IPiN Nurse Call solution for the hospital and the installation project is ongoing.
