LE ROY CHRISTIAN CHURCH The Cornerstone Newsletter Date: April 8, 2015 Issue 7 - DIGITAL EDITION An Overwhelming Sense of Joy As I pen these words shortly after our Resurrection Day celebration, I can’t help feeling an overwhelming sense of joy! When I think about Jesus conquering death and being alive forever, it’s just stunning to me. He was the hope for them, He is the hope for us, and it will never be over until He says it is! Talk about delivering a promise! As we reflect back over the past week and think about all the ways we’ve been able to worship Him and spend family-time celebrating His victory, I’m grateful to the many volunteers and selfless workers who even make a week like this possible. To recap, we had: Maundy Thursday service, Good Friday, an Easter Egg Hunt, a pork chop sandwich sale, a Sonrise Service, two Resurrection Day worship services, a beautiful Cantata— Jesus Saves, a nursing home service, kids’ services, classes and studies, and a couple of breakfasts. And that was all in the scope of one long weekend! Our personal thanks to all workers and servants who served with a smile on their faces to make sure these events and activities were well planned and organized and went so well. It is an honor and a pleasure to serve alongside of so many committed workers! We are so excited that now we get to finish The Story by taking an in- depth look at the teachings and ministry of Jesus. If you brought guests and family members to church for Easter, this is the perfect time to con- tinue those invitations over the next few weeks. Wouldn’t it be great if all those events led to more decisions for Christ? That’s what we are praying for. Have a great spring, everybody! - Jeff Mayfield - Senior Minister.

YM UPDATE

Time for a short breather!

I took two naps this weekend. I don’t nap well, as a rule. My mind doesn’t set-

tle down well, so even if I can, I usually don’t nap. However, there were two,

even if one was very short. The last month has seen a flurry of activity

around the LCC youth ministry. The buildup for Easter, two weekend retreats,

a huge concert, the egg hunt, a big fundraiser, regular weekly events, and a

few days out due to illness has left Laura, Isaiah and me all needing naps. We

got them. Saturday and Sunday both held a few moments to get some rest.

It’s been a good last month though. The Easter Egg Hunt resulted in 8300+

eggs being stuffed and then collected by at least 223 kids. Lots of families

showed up with even grandparents in tow, so we guessed we had at least 400

on site, if not a little closer to 500, on the day. Some might ask, “What’s an

Easter egg hunt got to do with Jesus rising from the dead?” Honestly, just

looking at the hunt itself, not a whole lot. But what that 5-minute event did

do was get almost 500 people here at one time and give them a chance to hear

the gospel story of Jesus rising from the dead (which did happen). What

needs to happen next is for you and me, now that we’ve all had a chance to

rest a bit, to get busy and pray for the work that’s been done over the last

month. Between Easter, SuperStart, Believe, JAM and our other weekly

meetings, we’ve covered a lot of ground. Our prayers need to be that the

Message was heard and that those folks who joined us for one of those things

saw something in us that made that Message seem real and attractive. If your

Easter weekend left you winded, take a breather. Once you’ve caught your

breath, join me as we get back to work for the next big push into the summer!

The team for the 2015 mission trip has been formed. Alley Roberson, Sam

and Jesse Corso and myself will head to El Paso, TX and then to Juarez, MX to

work with Casas por Cristo on June 14-19. We’ll be doing a “Team Casas”

build, a format which allows smaller groups to have a chance to do this work.

We plan to fly out on Sunday June 14. Each team member will be responsible

for raising $1000 ($500 for the build, $450ish for flight, $50 food/etc.).

Please consider how you can help this group be a blessing to a family in Mexico.

Contact me directly for more information.

As you begin cleaning out the garage for spring, we’ll be collecting items for

the youth group garage sale beginning this week. The sale will be May 15-16.

Help our students (especially the Mexico team) head to life-changing events in

the year to come.

Blessings, Joe Willis - Associate/Youth Minister.
