For the seventh consecutive year, Le French GourMay is dedicated to the promotion of French wine culture and culinary arts in Hong Kong and Macau and has become a popular event supported by French wine and food lovers and adventurous gourmet. In 2015, le French GourMay continues to surprise its audience by presenting a new facet of French food and fine wine by celebrating the Midi-Pyrénées, famous for French cuisine, wine and spirits as well as its diversified and amazing nature. During the whole month of May, more than 80 restaurants, including devoted Michelin-starred chefs, fine dining and bistro style restaurants will present ingeniously-designed menus and wine pairings from the Midi-Pyrénées.

Le French GourMay, organized by Business France – the French Trade Commission in Hong Kong – in association with The French Consulate in Hong Kong & Macau, has grown since its creation in 2009, into a major French gastronomy festival, celebrating the food and wine from France during Le French May festival.

For this new edition, we proudly bring Midi-Pyrénées, the largest region in France, into the spotlight. Enjoying pleasant weather, sunshine and nutritious soil, Midi-Pyrénées is well-known for its wines with different textures and varieties, especially its signature spirit Armagnac. The region also gave birth to some of the most iconic French delicacies: Foie gras, Roquefort cheese, meat and cold cuts.

Le French GourMay this year reveals an ambitious program of events, showcasing French gastronomy in a modern & chic manner. An opening party co-hosted by French May and French GourMay at PMQ and a two-day French Traditional Market at Stanley Plaza are among the special events this year.

Once again, Le French GourMay has teamed up with a comprehensive selection of more than 100 partners: 79 restaurants (including 13 Michelin-starred), 8 wine and culinary institutes, 25 importers and 20 retail operators in Hong Kong and Macau. The chefs and sommeliers have rolled up their sleeves to enrich your quality dining experience.

五月文化藝術節期間在香港及澳門推廣法國美食及

葡萄酒文化。

今屆法國五月美食節帶來了法國最大的大區:南部

庇利牛斯大區。南部庇利牛斯得天獨厚,享受充足日照

及肥沃土壤,因葡萄酒不同的結構和品種而享負盛名,尤其是其特產雅文邑白蘭地。同時,大區盛產多款

We are pleased and proud to present the gourmets in Hong Kong and Macau all the gastronomic heritage that is the identity of our region, as well as its natural and cultural heritage.

Agen prunes, foie gras, duck confit, cassoulet, Roquefort cheese, truffles, wines of Cahors, Madiran, Plaimont, Pacherenc de Vic-Bilh, plus the Armagnac brandy, “water of life” of the famous musketeer d’Artagnan... The list is long!

All these products are essential for our quality of life. They also seem to contribute to the famous “French paradox”, which allows our people to live longer than anywhere else!

But mostly Midi-Pyrénées and Languedoc-Roussillon cultivate the largest vineyard in the world! It covers nearly 1,000 kilometers from east to west. Hence a wide variety of soils, climate conditions, different terroirs, grape varieties and know-how offering all types of wines that are found in France, dry white, mellow, rosé or light red or more tannic...

Le French GourMay offers you a unique opportunity to taste our products prepared by some Michelin-starred chefs, as well as in all of our restaurant partners. A range of shops also offer a fine selection of regional specialties to the public.

Besides, the regional gastronomy is now present in China: in Wuhan where two Maisons Sud-Ouest France have been set up since July 2013, in Sichuan, Chengdu, where five new Maisons were opened in 2014 and five more are in preparation. By the end of this year, there will be a new Maison Sud-Ouest France inaugurated in Beijing.

Savoring the specialties of our cuisine will certainly make you want to go further and discover the beauty of our landscapes and major attractions that distinguish our region: the Cirque de Gavarnie, the cathedral in Albi, the Pic du Midi classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the medieval cities and the fortified castles.

French delicacies that are definitely worth the trip:

wine, spirits, foie gras, cheeses, meat and cold cuts.

But, as the French second agricultural region,Midi-

Pyrénées has emphasized on innovative technology on

organic farming.

Enjoying nice weather, sufficient sunshine and

nutritious soil, wines from Midi-Pyrénées are well-

known for their expressive flavors. Cahors, Gaillac,

Madiran, Marcillac and Fronton. They are definitely

full of surprises with different textures and varieties

– sweet, soft and subtle or dry and fruity. Another

highlight will be the signature spirit Armagnac. This

ARMAGNAC COCKTAIL RECIPES

• 60ml BLANCHE ARMAGNAC• 1 bar spoon of sugar syrup• 1 bar spoon of MARASCHINO• 1 bar spoon of ABSINTHE• 1 dash of ANGOSTURA BITTERS• Top up with CHAMPAGNE• Lemon zest

Put all of the ingredients except for the champagne into a mixing glass, fill with ice cubes, chill by mixing with a spoon then filter into a champagne goblet. Top up with champagne and decorate with the lemon zest.

• 30 ml ARMAGNAC• 30 ml SWEET VERMOUTH• 5 ml YELLOW CHARTREUSE• Orange zest

Pour all of the ingredients into a mixing glass, fill with ice cubes, and chill blend by stirring with a mixing spoon then filter into a pre-chilled cocktail glass. Decorate with some orange zest extracted over the glass.

FOOD RECIPE

Duck Foie Gras with GrapesTaken from the book La Cuisine à l'Armagnac – Florence and Jean Castarède – Editions Sud Ouest

Preparation: 10 minutes Cooking time: 15 minutes for the grapes, 4 minutes for the foie gras

Ingredients for 4 people:• 1 kg of fresh, raw duck foie gras• 1 kg of white grapes (dessert grapes like Chasselas with a thin

skin and small pips) • 10 cl armagnac (+ a few drops)• Red fruit syrup • Salt, pepper

1. Pour the armagnac and the red fruit syrup in a pan and dilute with a little water. Macerate the grapes for about 15 minutes over a low heat. This will mean that they keep their shape. Keep an eye on the simmering and the state of the grapes.

2. In a preheated pan, cook the slices of foie gras for 2 minutes on each side. They must keep their shape. Season. Pour off the excess of fat and add to the pan with the raisins for one more minute. Drain.

3. Pour a few drops of armagnac over the foie gras. Serve with toast and surrounded by the grapes.
