1. Le Chevalier Du Buysson was born 1752 in Moulin, Bouvarais, France, and died Abt. 17871

in France. He married Huldah Russ, daughter of William Russ and Ann Wood. She was born1755 in South Carolina, and died Aft. 1790.

Notes for Le Chevalier Du Buysson: b Lt. Col. Dubuysson (Brisson) of France was in America in support of the AmericanRevolutionary Army. Chevalier Du Buysson was a cousin to Lafayette, and M. Candon. He was serving as Aide de Camp for Gen. Baron de Kalb Col. Brisson met a local girl and fell inlove with her, married her and took her back to France. They had at least one son, Anthony, andone girl, name not known. Col. Brisson was awarded a land grant by the U.S. Congress and uponhis death Anthony, with his mother came over to South and North Carolina to claim the propertywhich had been granted to them. Anthony came to Bladen County after selling his propertyelsewhere and bought land here from John Freeman. Lt. Col Dubuysson was of Medium height and he had chestnut hair. Baron DeKalb was ofGerman birth served with Gen. Lafayette in the American Revolution. Lt. Col Dubuysson wasassigned to serve as Aid De Camp to Gen. De Kalb. On the fall of De Kalb, his aide Col.Dubuysson, raising him in his arms, and showing him to the surrounding enemies, stated hisrank, and implored them to spare him. In thus exposing himself to save his chief, he also waswounded, and made prisoner. While prostrate and disabled, the British soldiers, with theircharacteristic cruelty were still thrusting their bayonets into the the fallen General. And, in theirsavage greed for plunder, they even stripped him, to his shirt. Dubysson prevailed and got themto stop stabbing the General. He died a few days later. In Charlotte on August 26, 1780,Dubrysson wrote the following letter to his Generals. Dear Generals, Having received wounds in the action of the 16th istant, I was made a prisoner,with the Honorable Major General the Baron De Kalb, with whom I served as Aid De Camp andfriend, and had an opportunity of attending that great and good officer, during the short time helanguished with eleven wounds, which proved mortal on the third day. It is with particularpleasure I obey the Baron's last commands, in presenting his most affectionate compliments to allthe officers and men of his division. He expressed the greatest satisfaction in the testimony givenby the British army, of the bravery of his troops, and he was charmed with the firm oppositionthey made to superior force, when abandoned by the rest of the army. The gallant behaviour ofthe Delaware regiments, and the Companies of Artillery attached to the Brigades, afforded himinfinite pleasure. And the exemplary conduct of the whole Division, gave him and endearingsense of the merit of the troops he had the honor to command. It is not know how or why, the circumstance of when they cameto America from France, or even if they really did live in France. Dear Mother and Sister;

I received your kind letter the 29th of August which gave me infinite satisfaction and whichdispelled those clouds of anxiety which made me unhappy. It has excited such emotionsexperienced only by those who have a knowledge of a parent and sisters welfare so near and dearto them. I now experience a pleasure never felt before in hearing from a grand parent and othernear relatives whom I never knew in this society. I think you must be happy.

What a journey you have undertaken. What a danger you have surmounted in finding yourfriends of your youth to introduce to them your fatherless children. I remain in the same place where you left me it Mr. L. and agreeable to your command I shallstay in the neighborhood till I again hear from you. Rev. Nathan H. Guyton was ordained as an exhorter of the Methodist EpiscopalChurch, South, on !pril 19, 1873, licensed to preach on October 27, 1877. (Fromthe NC Conf. Journal for 1910, page 341. Rev. Guyton had charge of the BathCircuit in the Washington District for a year before he was listed as one of thepreachers on trial and he was admitted on trial Dec. 1885. He was ordaineddeacon in 1885, ordained elder in 1890, but considered a preacher in "full

Notes for Huldah Brisson: Huldah was born in the old John Freeman homestead which her father bought from Mr.Freeman. It was located just south of Dublin, NC. where the new West Bladen High School wasbuilt.

Notes for Jesse Cameron Pate Pait: Jesse was the fifth child of David and Feraby Boyt Pate. He was a founding member of CenterRoad Baptist Church and it's first Deacon. Jesse was 6 feet, 1 inch tall, with blue eyes and blondehair. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in New Hanover, County, NC, at the age of 37 on 3February 1862. He was discharged 31 January 1863 at Wilmington by reason f "dropsy". Heserved in the 2nd Co. I, 36th Regt., NC Troops. His father helped Jesse purchase propertyadjacent to Jacob Guyton on what is now Hwy NC 131.

Notes for George Franklin (Frank) Allen:

George served as a citizen soldlier by volunteering 6, March 1862 to serve as aprivate in the Confederate Army. He spent almost the entire war helping to guardthe network of forts that protected the port of Wilmington. Fort Fisher fell in1865 and George was among those captured and transported to Elmira prisoncamp in New York. He was paroled for exchange and returned to Richmond, VAon 2 March 1865.

He entered as aSGT and discharged the same.
