Cover artwork is Subtle Adornments, a project by Zoe Field & Heather McKenna.

Page 3: LC Art Week 2014 Publication

When the context of the studio changes, how does the work shift in response? Heather McKenna is an artist from Brooklyn, NY and a recent graduate of Pratt Institute, where she majored in Fine Arts Sculpture and minored in Art History. In discussion of her artistic practices and those of fellow recent gradu-ates, McKenna will address post-college art making. This will be McKenna’s second visit to Lewis & Clark, where she previouslycon-structed pieces for her Surface Matters exhib-it at the Place Gallery in Downtown Portland. McKenna’s work examines the complexity of recognition and resemblance, and how each relates to representation and memory.

Discussion with Heather McKennaCouncil Chamber 4-5 pm

Cycles intends to symbolize the regeneration and new growth that Artweek itself hopes to initiate: the show was inspired by the novelty of this en-tirely student-led festival. As students and inhab-itants of this campus, we have the potential to reinvigorate our space and imbue it with a sense of both communal creativity and independent creative exploration. The Pool House was chosen as the venue for the show because it is primarily used for storage and is somewhat neglected for the duration of the academic year, meaning that the historic and aesthetic beauty of the building is often overlooked. We hope to realize the full potential of this building by embracing its utilitar-ian qualities and showcasing the ability of art to regenerate and redefine the vitality of a space.

FRIDAY 4.25Oil vs. Acrylic Workshop with Muse Art Supply

Fields Painting Studio 2-4 pmPeter Rossing and Vaughn Barker of Muse Art and Design -- a Port-land, OR art supply resource -- will build two similar paintings step by step: one will be acrylic, the other oil. They will demonstrate and dis-cuss the similarities and differenc-es between these two mediums, showing how the characteristics and working properties of each paint type lend themselves to spe-cific techniques and visual styles. Rossing and Barker will introduce little-known tips for working ef-fectively with both oil and acrylic, useful to painters of all levels.Performance by Dragging an Ox Through Water

The Platteau 5-7 pmBrian Mumform’s Dragging an Ox Through Water perform songs rooted in folk and coun-try traditions, though ruptured, complicated, and complement-ed by broken textures of feed-back, drones, tape hiss, and homemade oscillators. Chance elements and candlelight-sen-sitive instruments destabilize customary electro-amplified tightness and introduce an ele-ment of improvisation to these songs. Mumform also plays in Sun Foot, Jackie-O Motherfuck-er, Deep Fried Boogie Band, & Jewelry Rash. He operates a small cassette & CDR label called Musical Impressions.
