This LeadingBold Change workshop is based on John Kotter andHolger Rathgebers story about penguins because it hasthe power to engage the minds and hearts o people.

Workshop Process
The workshop experience involvesindividual reection, group processingand individual and team-baseddecision making. Because o thestrong impact o visual stimuli inhelping the brain to process andremember concepts and ideas,graphic representations areemphasised in both training roomdcor and while envisioning thechange eort.
Participants work in teams and learnthe 8 step change model backwardsand orwards. Teams createpresentations that show the linksbetween the steps and illustrate themwith examples.
The process starts with pre-work.This includes reading Our Icebergis Melting and completing an onlineassignment that helps participants toconsider a real change eort they willbe involved in. The importance o thisstep cannot be overstated.
Next, participants view a macro-levelexploration o change and how itaects their organisation. From thisvantage point, the need to embraceand lead change is reinorced. Finally,these macro-level changes arereviewed to see how they contributeto fssures that indicate a needor change at all levels within theorganisation. With a need or change
identifed, the context is set ordeveloping change leaders at alllevels.
Interestingly, participants agree thatthe Antarctic penguins rom the storytend to have many similarities tohumans in their own organisations especially when it relates to theirreaction to change. The workshopleverages the iceberg metaphor whenneeded to help participants get pastrequently uncomortable issues.
