Welcome to the Annual Lazy RC Ranch Long Yearling Bull Sale!

Another year has passed by with moisture in the spring and another good hay

crop. In the late summer and into fall, moisture was needed but the calf run stayed

steady and we had a good year.

There are some major changes here at Lazy RC Ranch Ltd. First, we are

moving our Bull Sale to the Ranch at Beechy, SK, and secondly, we have built

a multi-purpose Sale Barn. We are really excited to host our Annual Bull Sale in

our NEW facility and location. We are also going to have a video sale on DLMS

with all the bulls being penned outside.

Once again, we are selling Long Yearling Bulls – bulls that are 20+ months of

age by sale time and 2 years of age when they go out to pasture to breed. Every

year we go through the same strict culling program – if they don’t work for us they

don’t work for you. This is the top 50% of the bulls out of our 120 bulls at weaning.

These bulls are sound and full of red meat. We offer cow bulls and heifer bulls to

meet your needs.

At weaning time these bulls are backgrounded on a grass hay and silage ration to

gain 1 - 1.5lbs/day to grow out naturally. They are on feed until May at which time we

turn them out on a crested wheat grass and native pasture. The bulls this year were

brought home August 24, 2012, and fed hay with a 12% protein pellet. On September

10, 2012, we started to feed a hay and silage ration plus the pellets. They are never

given any more than 12 lbs. of pellets and are fed for longevity, soundness and cor-

rectness and are a thick, stout and moderate group of bulls that will go out and

work in your program. These are ALL VIRGIN bulls and have been semen tested by

Southwest Animal Clinic before the sale and come FuLLY GuARANTEEd!

THE RANCHERS GUIDE TO EPD’S

The bull is merely a delivery system for

the genetics he passes on. Performing this

job requires them to be sound, fertile and

athletic. However, it is the reliability of their

genetic predictions that ultimately bear out

their true value to producers’ bottom line.

Remember, the market you seek to

participate in is just as much a part of your

environment as rainfall and available feed

stuffs. Target your market and work back-

wards to find the right bulls. Performing this

task can well be summarized in these three

steps:

1. Know the markets you wish to hit -

feeder calves, yearling, replacement fe-

males.

2. Have a true appraisal of how close your

cow herd is to that target, understanding

your cows have to continue to live and

reproduce in your environment.

3. Identify bulls whose EPD’s predict the

abiity to move your cow herd in the right

direction for the traits required to hit your

market end point. Example - suppose

your old herd bull has a Yearling Weight

EPD of +45. You buy a new bull with a

Yearling Weight EPD of +65. How much

will the new bull boost your calves’ year-

ling weights? The answer, “Who knows?”

We cannot predict how much perform-

ance will change from one year to the next

because of varying environmental condi-

tions (rainfall, temperature, available feed,

etc.). However, we do know this: the

calves raised in the same contemporary

group sired by the new bull will have the

genetics to weigh an average of 20 pounds

more at 365 days of age than calves sired

by the old bulls.

GUIDE FOR USING EPD’S

EPD’s are one of several tools that

should be used together in order to ensure

that you find the best bulls for your needs

and long term goals. EPD’s do not indicate

how any pounds will be added to a herd’s

average by using a particular bull.

Only the differences among bulls are

relevant. EPD’s can, and probably will,

change on a bull as more information is

added. In fact, every bull evaluated will get

a new set of EPD’s the next time the asso-

ciation conducts genetic evaluation. EPD’s

cannot be compared across breeds.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW): Expressed inpounds. Best estimate of differences in

birth weight. Higher EPD’s mean higher

birth weights.

WEANING WEIGHTS (WW): Expressed inpounds. Best estimate of overall growth.

Higher EPD’s mean more yearling weight.

MILK: The genetic ability of a sire’s daugh-ters to produce milk. Expressed in pounds

of weaning weight.

TOTAL MATERNAL (TM): A value comb-ing growth and milk information. A predic-

tion of the weaning weight performance of

calves from a sire’s daughters.

Dear Valued Customers,

The Lazy RC Ranch, owned and man-

aged by Russ and Cindy Sibbald, is a val-

ued client of the Southwest Animal Health

Center. Their Red and Black Angus herd

is well cared for with a complete vaccine

protocol resulting in a healthy and produc-

tive group of cattle.

The breeding cow herd is vaccinated

in the spring with a modified live viral vac-

cine including bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR),

bovine viral diarrhea (BVD Type I and II),

bovine parainfluenza-3 (PI3) and bovine

respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). They

are also treated spring and fall with a

pour-on ivermectin for external and inter-

nal parasite control.

The calves are vaccinated at between

one and two months of age and again at

weaning with a modified live viral vaccine

including bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR),

bovine viral diarrhea (BVD Type I and II),

bovine parinfluenza-3 (PI3) and bovine

respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). At the

same time, the calves are also vaccinated

for Haemophilus somnus, Pasteurella

haemolytica (pneumonia pathogens) and

an eight-way Clostridial vaccine and re-

ceive an injectable ivermectin in the spring

and a pour-on ivermectin in the fall for ex-

ternal and internal parasite control.

The extensive vaccine protocol utilized

by the Lazy RC Ranch ensures a high

level of health and low pathogen load in

both breeding and replacement stock.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or chequepayable at par at Beechy, SK. The right of property shall

not pass until settlement is made. All settlements must be

made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be

released.

BIDS - Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold tothe highest bidder A floor price will apply to each animal

consigned.

DISPUTES - In case of disputes, bidding will be reopenedbetween the parties involved. If no further bid is made,

the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer

accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such

matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk ofthe purchaser as soon as sold.

ANNOUNCEMENTS - Errors discovered in the cataloguewill be corrected by announcements from the Auction

Stand at sale time and such corrections will take prece-

dence over the printed matter in the catalogue.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - A certificate of registryduly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each

animal after settlement is made.

will have semen tested and physically evaluated every

Welcome to the Annual Lazy RC Ranch Long Yearling Bull Sale!

Another year has passed by with moisture in the spring and another good hay

crop. In the late summer and into fall, moisture was needed but the calf run stayed

steady and we had a good year.

There are some major changes here at Lazy RC Ranch Ltd. First, we are

moving our Bull Sale to the Ranch at Beechy, SK, and secondly, we have built

a multi-purpose Sale Barn. We are really excited to host our Annual Bull Sale in

our NEW facility and location. We are also going to have a video sale on DLMS

with all the bulls being penned outside.

Once again, we are selling Long Yearling Bulls – bulls that are 20+ months of

age by sale time and 2 years of age when they go out to pasture to breed. Every

year we go through the same strict culling program – if they don’t work for us they

don’t work for you. This is the top 50% of the bulls out of our 120 bulls at weaning.

These bulls are sound and full of red meat. We offer cow bulls and heifer bulls to

meet your needs.

At weaning time these bulls are backgrounded on a grass hay and silage ration to

gain 1 - 1.5lbs/day to grow out naturally. They are on feed until May at which time we

turn them out on a crested wheat grass and native pasture. The bulls this year were

brought home August 24, 2012, and fed hay with a 12% protein pellet. On September

10, 2012, we started to feed a hay and silage ration plus the pellets. They are never

given any more than 12 lbs. of pellets and are fed for longevity, soundness and cor-

rectness and are a thick, stout and moderate group of bulls that will go out and

work in your program. These are ALL VIRGIN bulls and have been semen tested by

Southwest Animal Clinic before the sale and come FuLLY GuARANTEEd!
