Long Yearling Bull Sale!

“WOW” Is the term we use to describe

2011!! Above average snow fall to spring and

summer flooding, all contributing to an abun-

dance of feed supply once again and we are

experiencing the best livestock prices that

cattle producers have seen in years. Calf

prices are as good as we have seen since

pre BSE with a record setting bred market.

As cattle producers, there is optimism in the

business and we hope to see it for many

more years to come. There is no better time

to add good

bulls to your program that will make you dollars when

you sell your calves - fall or spring.

This year, once again, we are selling Long Yearling

Bulls - they are 20+ months of age at sale time and 2

years of age when they go out to pasture to breed.

Every year we go through a strict culling program, if

they don’t work for us they don’t work for YOU. This is

the top 50% of the bulls out of our 120 bulls at weaning.

These bulls are sound and full of red meat. We have got

cow bulls and heifer bulls to meet your needs.

At weaning time these bulls are back grounded

grass hay and silage ration to gain 1to1.5 lbs per day to

grow out naturally. They are fed until May at which time

they are turned out on tame and native grass until

September. On September 7, 2011, they were brought

in and fed grass hay with a 12% protein screening pellet

at 6 lbs per day until October 7, 2011. At this time we

started to feed them a mixed ration of grass hay and oat

silage with 8 lbs of rolled barley, which the bulls will

continue to get until delivery. We feel that this lets the

bulls grow up naturally without being harmed.

These are all VIRGIN BULLS. All bulls have been

semen tested by Southwest Animal Clinic before the

sale and come fully guaranteed!

BIDS - Every animal entering the sale ring will besold to the highest bidder A floor price will apply

to each animal consigned.

THE RANCHERS GUIDE TO EPD’S

The bull is merely a delivery system

for the genetics he passes on.

Performing this job requires them to be

sound, fertile and athletic. However, it is

the reliability of their genetic predictions

that ultimately bear out their true value to

producers’ bottom line.

Remember, the market you seek to

participate in is just as much a part of

your environment as rainfall and avail-

able feed stuffs. Target your market and

work backwards to find the right bulls.

Performing this task can well be summa-

rized in these three steps:

1. Know the markets you wish to hit -

feeder calves, yearling, replacement

females.

2. Have a true appraisal of how close

your cow herd is to that target, under-

standing your cows have to continue

to live and reproduce in your environ-

ment.

3. Identify bulls whose EPD’s predict the

abiity to move your cow herd in the

right direction for the traits required to

hit your market end point. For exam-

ple - suppose your old herd bull has a

Yearling Weight EPD of +45. You buy

a new bull with a Yearling Weight EPD

of +65. How much will the new bull

boost your calves’ yearling weights?

The answer... “Who knows?”

We cannot predict how much per-

formance will change from one year to

the next because of varying environmen-

tal conditions (rainfall, temperature,

available feed, etc.). However, we do

know this: the calves raised in the same

contemporary group sired by the new

bull will have the genetics to weigh an

average of 20 pounds more at 365 days

of age than calves sired by the old bulls.

GUIDE FOR USING EPD’S

EPD’s are one of several tools that

should be used together in order to

ensure that you find the best bulls for

your needs and long term goals. EPD’s

do not indicate how any pounds will be

added to a herd’s average by using a

particular bull.

Only the differences among bulls

are relevant. EPD’s can, and probably

will, change on a bull as more informa-

tion is added. In fact, every bull evaluat-

ed will get a new set of EPD’s the next

time the association conducts genetic

evaluation. EPD’s cannot be compared

across breeds.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW): Expressed inpounds. Best estimate of differences in

birth weight. Higher EPD’s mean higher

birth weights.

WEANING WEIGHTS (WW): Expressedin pounds. Best estimate of overall

growth. Higher EPD’s mean more year-

ling weight.

MILK: The genetic ability of a sire’sdaughters to produce milk. Expressed in

pounds of weaning weight.

TOTAL MATERNAL (TM): A valuecombing growth and milk information.

A prediction of the weaning weight

performance of calves from a sire’s

daughters.

Dear Valued Customers,

The Lazy RC Ranch, owned and man-

aged by Russ and Cindy Sibbald, is a val-

ued client of the Southwest Animal Health

Center. Their Red and Black Angus herd

is well cared for with a complete vaccine

protocol resulting in a healthy and produc-

tive group of cattle.

The breeding cow herd is vaccinated

in the spring with a modified live viral vac-

cine including bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR),

bovine viral diarrhea (BVD Type I and II),

bovine parainfluenza-3 (PI3) and bovine

respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). They

are also treated spring and fall with a

pour-on ivermectin for external and inter-

nal parasite control.

The calves are vaccinated at between

one and two months of age and again at

weaning with a modified live viral vaccine

including bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR),


bovine parinfluenza-3 (PI3) and bovine

respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). At the

same time, the calves are also vaccinated

for Haemophilus somnus, Pasteurella

haemolytica (pneumonia pathogens) and

an eight-way Clostridial vaccine and

receive an injectable ivermectin in the

spring and a pour-on ivermectin in the fall

for external and internal parasite control.

The extensive vaccine protocol utilized

by the Lazy RC Ranch ensures a high

level of health and low pathogen load in

both breeding and replacement stock.

EPD and profile. Scoring as follows:

Dear Valued Customers,

The Lazy RC Ranch, owned and man-

aged by Russ and Cindy Sibbald, is a val-

ued client of the Southwest Animal Health

Center. Their Red and Black Angus herd

is well cared for with a complete vaccine

protocol resulting in a healthy and produc-

tive group of cattle.

The breeding cow herd is vaccinated

in the spring with a modified live viral vac-

cine including bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR),


bovine parainfluenza-3 (PI3) and bovine

respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). They

are also treated spring and fall with a

pour-on ivermectin for external and inter-

nal parasite control.

The calves are vaccinated at between

one and two months of age and again at

weaning with a modified live viral vaccine

including bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR),


bovine parinfluenza-3 (PI3) and bovine

respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). At the

same time, the calves are also vaccinated

for Haemophilus somnus, Pasteurella

haemolytica (pneumonia pathogens) and

an eight-way Clostridial vaccine and

receive an injectable ivermectin in the

spring and a pour-on ivermectin in the fall

for external and internal parasite control.

The extensive vaccine protocol utilized

by the Lazy RC Ranch ensures a high

level of health and low pathogen load in

both breeding and replacement stock.

THE RANCHERS GUIDE TO EPD’S

The bull is merely a delivery system

for the genetics he passes on.

Performing this job requires them to be

sound, fertile and athletic. However, it is

the reliability of their genetic predictions

that ultimately bear out their true value to

producers’ bottom line.

Remember, the market you seek to

participate in is just as much a part of

your environment as rainfall and avail-

able feed stuffs. Target your market and

work backwards to find the right bulls.

Performing this task can well be summa-

rized in these three steps:

1. Know the markets you wish to hit -

feeder calves, yearling, replacement

females.

2. Have a true appraisal of how close

your cow herd is to that target, under-

standing your cows have to continue

to live and reproduce in your environ-

ment.

3. Identify bulls whose EPD’s predict the

abiity to move your cow herd in the

right direction for the traits required to

hit your market end point. For exam-

ple - suppose your old herd bull has a

Yearling Weight EPD of +45. You buy

a new bull with a Yearling Weight EPD

of +65. How much will the new bull

boost your calves’ yearling weights?

The answer... “Who knows?”

We cannot predict how much per-

formance will change from one year to

the next because of varying environmen-

tal conditions (rainfall, temperature,

available feed, etc.). However, we do

know this: the calves raised in the same

contemporary group sired by the new

bull will have the genetics to weigh an

average of 20 pounds more at 365 days

of age than calves sired by the old bulls.

GUIDE FOR USING EPD’S

EPD’s are one of several tools that

should be used together in order to

ensure that you find the best bulls for

your needs and long term goals. EPD’s

do not indicate how any pounds will be

added to a herd’s average by using a

particular bull.

Only the differences among bulls

are relevant. EPD’s can, and probably

will, change on a bull as more informa-

tion is added. In fact, every bull evaluat-

ed will get a new set of EPD’s the next

time the association conducts genetic

evaluation. EPD’s cannot be compared

across breeds.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW): Expressed inpounds. Best estimate of differences in

birth weight. Higher EPD’s mean higher

birth weights.

WEANING WEIGHTS (WW): Expressedin pounds. Best estimate of overall

growth. Higher EPD’s mean more year-

ling weight.

MILK: The genetic ability of a sire’sdaughters to produce milk. Expressed in

pounds of weaning weight.

TOTAL MATERNAL (TM): A valuecombing growth and milk information.

A prediction of the weaning weight

performance of calves from a sire’s

daughters.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash orcheque payable at par at Swift Current, SK. The

right of property shall not pass until settlement is

made. All settlements must be made with the

clerks of the sale before any cattle will be

released.

BIDS - Every animal entering the sale ring will besold to the highest bidder A floor price will apply

to each animal consigned.

DISPUTES - In case of disputes, bidding will bereopened between the parties involved. If no fur-

ther bid is made, the buyer will be the person

from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid.

The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be

final.

PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomesthe risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

ANNOUNCEMENTS - Errors discovered in thecatalogue will be corrected by announcements

from the Auction Stand at sale time and such cor-

rections will take precedence over the printed

matter in the catalogue.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - A certificate ofregistry duly transferred will be furnished to the

buyer for each animal after settlement is made.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE - Lazy RC Ranch hasdone everything possible to assure you, the

buyer, that every bull in this sale will be a breeder.

A certified veterinarian will have semen tested

and physically evaluated every bull. In the unlike-

ly event of a dispute, regular terms & conditions

standard with the Canadian Angus Association

shall apply.

ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will betaken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers,

neither the sales manager, auctioneer nor any

owner assumes any responsibility in this matter

and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in

the event of accident or loss of property.

Welcome to the Annual Lazy RC Ranch

Long Yearling Bull Sale!

“WOW” Is the term we use to describe

2011!! Above average snow fall to spring and

summer flooding, all contributing to an abun-

dance of feed supply once again and we are

experiencing the best livestock prices that

cattle producers have seen in years. Calf

prices are as good as we have seen since

pre BSE with a record setting bred market.

As cattle producers, there is optimism in the

business and we hope to see it for many

more years to come. There is no better time

to add good

bulls to your program that will make you dollars when

you sell your calves - fall or spring.

This year, once again, we are selling Long Yearling

Bulls - they are 20+ months of age at sale time and 2

years of age when they go out to pasture to breed.

Every year we go through a strict culling program, if

they don’t work for us they don’t work for YOU. This is

the top 50% of the bulls out of our 120 bulls at weaning.

These bulls are sound and full of red meat. We have got

cow bulls and heifer bulls to meet your needs.

At weaning time these bulls are back grounded

grass hay and silage ration to gain 1to1.5 lbs per day to

grow out naturally. They are fed until May at which time

they are turned out on tame and native grass until

September. On September 7, 2011, they were brought

in and fed grass hay with a 12% protein screening pellet

at 6 lbs per day until October 7, 2011. At this time we

started to feed them a mixed ration of grass hay and oat

silage with 8 lbs of rolled barley, which the bulls will

continue to get until delivery. We feel that this lets the

bulls grow up naturally without being harmed.

These are all VIRGIN BULLS. All bulls have been

semen tested by Southwest Animal Clinic before the

sale and come fully guaranteed!
