Ambulatory Surgery Center Project

● Who is involved?

● Joint venture between Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Shields Health Care, and

surgeons

● What happens in an ASC?

● Scheduled, day surgeries like colonoscopies, ear tubes, and knee ligament repair

● Lower cost, high-quality healthcare for patients

● ASC does not mean ambulances

● Outpatient care = future of healthcare

● ASC will be for-profit and will generate tax revenue for the city

● The hospital maintains its not-for-profit status

Watertown, MA (1,300 professionals in 24 offices)

● Goal of the study is to estimate and quantify the incremental

impacts of the Proposed Project on the area roadway network

and on-campus parking

● The full-build Project, inclusive of ASC and new LMH services, net-new

generated trips are approximately 36-41 vehicles/hour during weekday

peak periods

(approximately 0.7 vehicles per minute)

● As a comparison, the intersection of Governors Ave/Lawrence Rd

processes 1,750-1,800 peak periods vehicles
