"True advanced amateurs" want to see continuous improvement in image"True advanced amateurs" want to see continuous improvement in imagequality, therefore no effort was spared in development of EOS 5D Mark III.quality, therefore no effort was spared in development of EOS 5D Mark III.

The first camera in the 5D Series targeted True advanced amateurs who wanted a full-framecamera at a reasonable price. EOS 5D Mark III goes beyond this. Offering the advantages ofa full-frame sensor in addition to superb optical performance, this new EOS satisfies thecreative needs (and budgets) of True advanced amateurs while also serving as an excellentsecond camera for professionals.

To achieve these goals, a new CMOS sensor was developed and coupled with a fast imageprocessor. Sensor specifications were decided based on the concept of comprehensiveimage quality. Also, development of the image processor occurred concurrent with that of theprocessor in EOS-1Dx.

Both these advancements realize superlative images in a full-frame format in addition tooutstanding high-sensitivity performance, making this new EOS ideal for capturing outdoornight scenes and portraits along with dynamic indoor action.

Canon poured it on when developing EOS 5D Mark III so photographers across a widespectrum could benefit from its leading-edge features. In essence, EOS 5D Mark III raises

    7

the bar and sets a new standard in its class.

Pixel count alone does not determine image quality, hence that EOS 5D Mark III's sensor has more pixels is not the solereason for the improved image quality. We aimed to achieve at ISO 25600 the same noise level as that of 5D Mark II atISO 6400. Of course, along with a drastic decrease in noise levels across the normal ISO range, noise reductionperformance beyond ISO 25600 was also improved.

We designed it so that grid lines would not meetwhere intersectin so sub ects would remain clearl visible. Therefore rid lines do not overla the entire image. Because GUI design takes into account image distortion and other factors, it is difficult

!! D-SLR cameras tend to heat up when shooting movies due to the large image sensor and extremely powerful imageprocessor. To control heat, EOS 5D Mark III developers relied on computer-aided simulations in order to optimize the

construction. As a result, EOS 5D Mark III achieves continuous movie shooting times that are virtually identical to that

    of 5D Mark II.
