The House of Charles Grech was founded in March 1881 by Charles Grech, who after a distinguished career in Britain’s Royal Navy, decided to settle in his homeland. He chose a unique location in the fashionable main street of Valletta, then called Strada Reale (later Kingsway and now Republic Street), which consisted of three areas: the

front of the establishment was a “high class tobacconist shop” selling the finest imported tobacco products and Dunhill pipes. The middle room housed a very exclusive “sampling bar” which for many years was patronized by the top people of the island and senior officers of the Armed Forces - and the back room was the “office” where his main activity was that of ship chandler and supplier to ships especially those of the Royal Navy. Charles Grech was succeeded by his sons, Philip and Joseph, who carried on the tradition and progressed to importing and distributing all over Malta and Gozo. They steered the firm through the dark years of World War II, and they were very proud of the fact that in spite of the bombs, it was ‘business as usual’ every single day. In 1947, Charles, son of Philip joined the firm straight from law school to replace his father who had to retire for health reasons. Soon after, he was joined by his younger brother Godwin, and together they made an excellent team. The fourth generation is now at the helm of the Company.

PortsPort is one of the great classic European wines and its history is a long and fascinating one. As a fortified wine it is made by adding a proportion of grape spirit, or brandy, to the wine at some point during the production process. Port is arguably the greatest of all fortified wines and its paramount expression, Vintage Port, ranks alongside the finest produce of Bordeaux or Burgundy as one of the great iconic wines of the world. In the case of Port, the addition of the brandy takes place before the wine has finished fermenting. This means that the wine retains some of the natural sweetness of the grape, making it rich, round and smooth on the palate.

Single Malt Whisky

Founded in 1824 in the heart of Speyside, The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then it has built a reputation as one of the world’s leading single malt whiskies. From its founding, through the subsequent owners of The Macallan distillery in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and into the present century, The Macallan has been recognised for its outstanding quality above all else. Today this remains the foundation for the worldwide fame of The Macallan.

Highland Park is made today, just as it was in 1798, in the most Northerly Whisky distillery in

Scotland (Kirkwall, Orkney) & still use the five keystones of production. No other distillery uses

all five keystones which are; Use of Aromatic Peat, Hand turned floor maltings, sherry oak

casks, cool maturation & cask harmonisation - so no other whisky tastes like Highland Park.

Tomintoul single malt whisky is a testament to our master distiller, Robert Fleming, whose family has been making whisky in the Speyside Glenlivet region for four

generations. Inspired by tradition, he has produced a single malt of unique quality, which is now available in

Blended Scotch Whisky

The Famous Grouse is a best-selling blended Scotch whisky in the UK and the 32nd biggest drinks brand worldwide. Furthermore, it is heralded as Scotland’s favourite drink. The blend is made up of noteworthy

components; whisky from The Macallan, The Glenrothes and Highland Park are included, though

65% of the spirit content is made up of grain whisky.

A very popular blend, particularly on the American market, started by Berry Bros & Rudd and named for the tea clipper Cutty Sark, said to be the fastest ship of its time.

Label 5 is a very well known (particularly in France) blended Scotch whisky, made with a hearty helping of fruity Speyside malts at its core. A great value blend.

Sir Edward’s blended scotch whisky is distilled, blended then matured in oak barrels. This process takes

place using purely traditional methods in Scottish distillers. Its unique character comes from a careful

El Jimador ReposadoEl Jimador Reposado begins with 100% hand-harvested blue Weber agave, naturally fermented and double distilled. Then it enjoys a two-month siesta in our own handmade American oak barrels until the perfect moment.

First produced in the 16th Century near the city of Tequila, this fermented beverage from the Agave plant known as Pulque was mainly consumed in pre-Columbian central Mexico before European contact, which first came with the Spanish conquistadors. Through the years the interest in this particular spirit grew and today we are seeing a variety of high quality Tequilas exported from their original lands all over the world.
