Associate University Librarian (June 2017 – present) Responsible for administering Dudley Knox Library (DKL) operations and for formulating and implementing library information policies, programs, services, manpower, and associated technologies that support the Naval Postgraduate School on-campus and distributed instructional and research programs. My scope of duties include supervising library staff, managing budgets, manpower, and physical facilities. Additionally, I lead the assessment of DKL’s contributions to student learning, including collecting evidence, documenting success, communicating results and overseeing continuous improvements to library services and programs.

Major responsibilities include:

• Supervising library administrative, fiscal, and systems personnel • Manage library budgets (totaling approximately $5.8 million annually). This includes

serving as an Authorizing Official (AO) for DKL and NPS’s Graduate Learning Center’s purchasing and travel.

Associate Dean, Library Technology Planning and Policy (April 2015 – December 2016) Responsible for the information technology operations of The University of Alabama Libraries. These duties included planning and executing a strategic vision for library technology that supports the mission and goals of The University of Alabama. Major responsibilities include: • Responsible for approximately 25 FTE in the following areas (up to 8 direct reports):

• Area Computing Services: This unit provides desktop, network, and software support for over 700 public and staff PCs and Macs.

• Metadata and Digital Services: This unit is responsible for the digitization and preservation of unique content from the Libraries Collections and works with other digital library initiatives.

• Integrated Library System and E-Resources Management: This unit is responsible for managing the integrated library system (Voyager) and enabling remote access and authentication to electronic resources using the EZproxy platform.

• Web Infrastructure and Application Development Programmers and UNIX system administrator responsible for the technical infrastructure of all websites and web applications. This group manages the locally developed (open source) Acumen digital repository discovery application.

Specific accomplishments include: • OLT launched a new library website in August 2015. Between August 15, 2015 and

August 15, 2016, page views increased almost 40% compared to the previous year. • Worked with the dean and other associate deans to expand the Digital Services under the

Office of Library Technology into the Metadata & Digital Services department. This involved reassigning faculty and staff who were primarily doing metadata work in cataloging and special collections to the new department.

• Negotiated and implemented a new Service Level Agreement (SLA) with The University of Alabama’s Office of Information Technology (OIT).

• Appointed a librarian to be the University Libraries’ first technology accessibility liaison and one of the first academic units on campus to have someone assigned the role of technology accessibility liaison.

• Initiated the University Libraries becoming a charter member of the Open Preservation Foundation, becoming the first academic library in the United States to join the leading international organization for digital preservation.

• Created the “Occasional Lecture Series on Library Technology” to help communicate what is being done in the area of library technology at The University of Alabama Libraries and at other research libraries.

• Evaluated various platforms for a new Institutional Repository that will capture and provide access to the Universities’ scholarly output including ETDs. This included researching available options as well as installing, configuring, and testing the DSpace repository application.

• Implemented new digital signage to advertise library resources, services, and events.

Interim Associate Dean, Special Collections (October 2015 – September 2016) I was appointed Interim Associate Dean, Special Collections in addition to my role as Associate Dean, Library Technology Planning and Policy In addition to being the administrative head for Special Collections (approximately 12 FTE). I was also the administrative head of the Music Library for a majority of this time until we implemented a minor reorganization that changed the reporting lines of the Music Library. Major responsibilities include:

• Appraising administrators in the University Libraries and campus administration of retention issues, especially those relating to digital content.

• Maintaining oversight of all issues relating to gifts as well as University records that are received in digital format regardless of which unity within Special Collections received digital content.

• Ensuring appropriate queues of materials housed in Special Collections are made available to the metadata staff and digitization staff.

• Ensuring that the Dean and Public Relations Officer are informed of all gifts, whether potential or received, and all donor prospects.

• Serve as senior administrator for the Music Library (October 1, 2015 – March 31, 2016). • Responsible for goal setting and faculty/staff evaluations.

Specific accomplishments include:

• Facilitated the transition from Archivist Toolkit to ArchivesSpace. • Worked with Special Collections librarians and staff to update various policies and

procedures • Visits to the Hoole Library increased 30% during the 2015/16 academic year compared to

the previous academic year. The increase can partially be attributed to increased outreach, marketing, and hosting exhibits and lectures that were of interest to the community.

• Served as senior administrator for the Libraries’ technology department • Supervise a diverse workforce in a unionized environment that included the Web

• Developed and administered a comprehensive technology plan that is integrated with the Libraries’ strategic plan.

• Administered the Libraries’ digital preservation system (Ex Libris Rosetta) and seek to enhance the University’s capacity to preserve and provide access to digital documents, publications, images, multi-media materials, data sets, and other digital materials.

• Managed the Libraries’ digital initiatives program and digitization laboratory. This included selecting evaluating digital file formats and selecting digitization guidelines based on digitization standards. This, along with my digital preservation responsibilities, included the full lifecycle management of born digital and digitized content.

• Responsible for the Libraries' ILS (Aleph), discovery layer (Primo), federated search solution (MetaLib), and other production systems and infrastructure including virtualization and cloud-based technologies.

• Collaborated with the university’s Information Technology Services and Library Information Commons Coordinator on technology infrastructure in the information commons in all libraries.

• Worked with Cataloging/Metadata Librarians to deposit digital content into Rosetta. • Maintained the Libraries’ Linux-based servers (appropriately one dozen servers running

Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux, and Ubuntu distributions). • Analyzed Web site and database usage and trends. • Ensure that students, faculty, and staff have easy access to the Libraries’ electronic

resources from within the libraries, on-campus, and remotely.

Specific accomplishments include: • Led Binghamton University Libraries’ digital preservation initiatives. In this role I

implemented and served as project manager for the university’s successful implementation of the Rosetta digital preservation. Binghamton University was the first academic library in the world to implement this software. I was responsible for defining objectives and goals for this project. I managed all technical aspects of our digital preservation initiatives and served as project leader for new born-digital and digitized collections as they were being ingested into Rosetta.

• I successfully coordinated the migration of the Libraries’ Aleph ILS form a locally hosted server to a Software as a Service (SaaS) (cloud computing) platform.

• Provided leadership for a major renovation of the Libraries instructional classroom / public computer laboratory duel-purpose facility. This included the selection of a new classroom management tool (Faronics Insight), new computers, a new smart board, and new furniture.

• I implemented and managed the operation of the Libraries’ digitization laboratory. • I led the redesign and re-organization of the Libraries’ Web site. • I was the team-leader on the Libraries’ Primo discovery layer implementation. In addition

to providing leadership, oversight, and management of this project, I was responsible for all aspects of the integration of Rosetta and Primo. I continue to provide leadership to this ongoing initiative.

• Led the project to implement the ContentPro digital library system as one of the development partners with Innovative Interfaces, Inc.

• Elected Chair of Libraries’ faculty in 2012.

• Managed the Library's automation system (Voyager). This included, but was not limited to, installing and troubleshooting staff modules, configuring the Web-based OPAC (Ex Libris WebVoyáge), scheduling and performing upgrades.

• Implemented and administrated the Ex Libris Voyager Inter-Library Loan (ILL) module. • Served as the Library’s liaison for the Administrative and Academic Information

Specific accomplishments include:

• Successfully planned and supervised the information technology aspects of the move to a brand new library building. This included planning for the physical migration of approximately 100 computers and peripheral equipment into new library building as well as ensuring the wired and wireless networking and other technological infrastructure was installed and operating appropriately. This project required close coordination with TCNJ physical facilities and information technology departments.

• As co-chair of Library Web Page Committee, I led the redesign of the TCNJ Library Web site and WebVoyáge user interface.

• Developed and maintained RSS feeds of new library acquisitions based on subject. • Received IT mini grant ($2000) for Fall 2007 semester to evaluate VuFind. • Served as project team member for "Shared Open Source Library System Planning" grant

($24,417) funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services' 2007 National Leadership Grants for Libraries program.

• Created a new server room out of an old storage room. This project included all aspects of planning for security, remote management, electricity, networking, and air conditioning.

• Served as Project Director of “Implementing Z39.50 and WebPac Technology” grant ($25,000) (1999 – 2000).

• Substantially increased the number of computers available to library patrons throughout the Libraries.
